Planning is one of the key elements to a successful Jr. Debutante Site. There are a lot of details that must be taken into consideration when preparing to work with young women.

JR. DEBUTANTE PLANNING TEAM

The person who will plan Jr. Debutante activities will be primarily the Jr. Debutante Coordinator and Facilitators. In the initial planning, the Jr. Debutante Coordinator and the Facilitatorswill be responsible for planning the details of the Course. Youth may be included when planning the social outing, social service activity, and spiritual enrichment activity.

JR. DEBUTANTE PLANNING PROCESSThere are four major areas of planning for the Jr. Debutante Ministry. The process you take to lay out the ministry plan is one that can easily be done by dividing ministry activities intofour major categories. They are as follows:

Weekly Class Meetings Weekly teaching materials Weekly speakers Jr. Debutante’s gifts and give a ways Jr. Debutante assignments Spiritual Enrichment/Community Service/Social Outing

JR. DEBUTANTE TIME LINE

Developing a time line for the Jr. Debutante classes and activities will help you assure each class is special and well prepared. The following time line will give you a

Planning should also yield a plan that is an extension of God’s love and glory for one another and to the community in which they live. Please take some time to complete the planning worksheet to better plan your Jr. Debutante site activities.

Keep in mind when planning for the Jr. Debutante meetings, if you would like to bring in a presenter give them at least one month’s notice.

SETTING UP YOUR JR. DEBUTANTE COURSE

Steps to Establishing Your Course

Maintaining Key Relationships

STEPS TO ESTABLISHING YOUR COURSE

After becoming a Certified Coordinator through the National Office, you are ready to recruit young women. The first meeting will be with Jr. Debutante candidate’s parents and a parent packet given out. Throughout the course of the ministry there will be some relationships that have to be maintained. The following are those people you will stay in contact with throughout the duration of the program.

MAINTAIN KEY RELATIONSHIPSI. GodYour personal relationship with Christ Jesus is the foundation of your success in life and ministry. Continually seek the will of God and His way will lead you to becoming more Christ-like. Your walk with God will lead to a more fulfilling and blessed time together as you teach young women in the truth’s of God’s Word. Making time for daily devotion, prayer and Bible study will strengthen you in times of weakness and insure peace in times of uncertainty.

One reason you were selected to become a Coordinator with the Course is because of God’s presence in your life. The fruitof the Spirit was the evidence of God’s Holy Spirit living withinyou. Continue to cultivate your relationship with God, andthrough your obedience and faithfulness, you will see first hand the move of God in your sessions.

Examine your personal relationship with God. Is it where it needs to be? Is it where you would like to be? What things do you suggest to help the young women grow in Christ?

II. Ladies by Design Jr. Debutante National TrainerThe LBD Trainer and Coordinator work in partnership to assure Ministry success. Keeping the lines of communication open willbe vital to meeting your needs as the Coordinator. When an issue, question or concern arises, e-mail, call or drop a note to inform your trainer of upcoming issues. Remember, you meet bi-weekly by telephone, so this will be the timeto discuss most of your questions and concerns. However, if there is something pressing between your meeting time, your LBD Traineris there for your guidance, support, leadership and most importantlyprayer. Please take advantage of this resource. If your LBD Trainer has not contacted you in at least two weeks to respond to yourissue, submit a guidance letter to the National LBD office.

III. ParentsThe key to a successful group is keeping an open line of communicationwith the parents of Jr. Debutante Candidates. Parents encourage their children to participate in activities that reinforce family values and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When you begin your class you must be sure to host a Parent Information Meeting. Sharing the information with parents will help them better understand the mission and purpose of the ministry.

Quarterly Parent Information Letters will also keep parents informed throughout the duration of the program.

List some ideas you have to include parents in your activities.

IV. The GirlsThe young women you will work with through your ministry will come from a variety of homes, ethnicity, and yes, even religions. When they

attend meetings and join the class, you must make them feel welcomeand truly loved. Encouragement and support is crucial during an adolescent’s life, and you have an opportunity to shape and impact of young women’s life. It is indeed a blessing to be called at a time such as this.

Write down some ideas you have to begin bonding with your girls.

V. Volunteers and Ministry WorkersA fully staffed class includes the Coordinators, and Facilitatorsand others who minister with you to the Jr. Debutantes. If you and your design team work together in unity, the impact on the livesof young women will be immediate and profound. Make your volunteers and ministry workers feel a part of the ministrycompletely. Hold regular meetings with them so that youwill stay on one accord. Send notes of encouragement and thanks.

Include them in on the Site planning process and evaluation of the program.

List some individuals you feel could work with the ministry.

VI. Owner/Agent of the FacilityMaintaining a workable relationship with the owner of the facilitywhere you would like to meet is imperative to success. Make sure you give the owner a schedule, listings of dates and times of the meetings. If there will be a problem with payment, please inform your facility Contact. If you are meeting at a church, providing feedback on your progress is encouraging. Please leave the facility clean and in order. Moreover, sending thank you letters and extra touches will only enhance your relationship.

List some facilities you would like to work with.

VII. Community OrganizationsBecause we are representing God, it is unimaginable that we would not let the love of Christ shine through in our local community. We must always remember to say please and thank youto demonstrate His love.

When you find someone who supports the vision of your ministry and they help you, you must say thank you. Sending thank you cardson behalf of the ministry, as well as pictures leaves a lasting impression on donors, friends, and partners of your site. Can you think of other ways to show your Courses appreciation.

Steps To Recruiting and Training and Course Team

I. Jr. Debutante Course TeamThe key to implementing an effective Christian-based Jr. Debutante Course in your church or community is a spirit-led, committed Course Design Team. The Course team can consist of personal friends who have a genuine desire to work with young women or those who respond to your recruitment efforts. The activities carried out throughout the course of the program requires a great deal of planning and implementation. The teamthat you put together to assist you in implementing the programcan be as vast or as limited as you desire. It depends on the scopeof the program in your area, and the availability of your volunteers. The following flow chart outlines the ideal ministry designteam at the local level, however, many of these assignments can be divided between the Jr. Debutante Coordinator and Facilitator.

II. CHARACTERISTIC OF THE DESIGN TEAMAlthough there is no hard and fast rule, ministry workers shouldhave a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, have backgroundworking with youth, and have no fear of speaking with all levels of the public.

Here’s some questions to think about:

Jr. Debutante Criteria

National Criteria

Developmental Criteria

Local Site Criteria

JR. DEBUTANTE CRITERIA

Becoming a Debutante is a life long dream for many young women. The class and elegance associated with being a Debutante is world-renowned. However, the inner beauty of ones self is the greatest criteria any girl or young woman could strive to meet. God’s glory shining through the life of girls and young women is the goal of the Jr. Debutante Course. Becoming a Jr. Debutante, serves as a precursor for young women who are seeking to become a Debutante. The criteria for all young women through the National office is similar to most Social Debutante programs.

The LDB Jr. Debutante Course seeks to recruit young women who are at risk of teen pregnancy such as : children of single parent households, young women who are having difficulty in school andyoung women who are having behavioral issues. Therefore, the criteria to participate in the Ladies By Design Jr. Debutante Course are not as stringent as some Debutante program criteria . These criteria are not to lessen the importance of the young women participating, but it is to remove every barrier to their participation.

Young women who want to participate in the Jr. Debutante Course must complete National’s criteria as well as criteria determined by their local Jr. Debutante Site if any.

NATIONAL CRITERIA

The National Jr. Debutante Course has determined criteria that will allow every opportunity for all young women who want to participate in the Jr. Debutante Course . As parents and young women respond to your advertisement for the Jr. Debutante program, informing each one about the National and Local criteria is first and foremost.

National Jr. Debutante Criteria

Age: Girls must be between the ages of 6 and 15 years oldReligion: Girls of all religious backgrounds are acceptedGrades: all girls must be at least passing each class. Girls who have flunked one class in one grading period will be placed on probation and have to pass the upcoming grading period to remain in the program.Community Service: Girls are not required to have been involved in community service activities, however, girls who have some background in community service is helpful. One Page Paper: Girls (9-15) have to write a one page report outlining why they would like to be Jr. Debutante.Discipline: Girls who have had more a write-up in one grading period will be placed on probation until the following grading period in which they may receive no more write ups. Suspensions and in- school suspensions will be determined on a case-by case basis.

DEVELOPMENTAL CRITERIA

In addition to completing the initial enrollment criteria, to graduate girls must also complete the 3 Spiritual criteria also.

Developmental Criteria I: Spiritual EnrichmentMaturing spiritually is a main focus of the Ladies By Design Jr. Debutante Course. Activities that lead young women to a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ is the goal of this activity. Planning a sleep over where you bring in a special guest, or hosting a girl’s conference, or leading young women to another girl’s conference in your community all meet the criteria of Spiritual Enrichment. Girls should be able to share their testimony about the enrichment experience and are encouraged to share with the adults what they would like to do for a spiritual enrichment. Girls should be able to share their testimony about the enrichment experience and are encouraged to share with the Design Team what they would like to do for a spiritual enrichment experience.

It is that covenant step to obedience we vow as servants of God to step out and touch the communities in which we live. Community service fosters compassion, creativity and faith in the lives of participants and staff. God will lead you to the place where your services are most needed. The following steps will help you in your selection process.

STEP ONE:

Ask girls what type of community service they would like to participatein. Their input would assure greater success, as they will be excited about what matters to them. There is a great likelihood that one of them has a family member who may need help.

STEP TWO:After selecting a place you will perform your community service, notify all the young women and their parents. Coordinate a date, and time. If your group is traveling and permission is needed, pre-planning could potentially begin two years in advance.

STEP THREE:Review the ministries standards of conduct before participating in anything.

STEP FOUR:Take plenty of pictures, they will provide a great memory of your commitment to service.

Development Criteria 3: Social OutingThe social outing is an opportunity for young women to experience different cultures and dining experiences. Girls and young women should come dressed nicely and be prepared to visit one of the cities finer dining establishments. Reservations should be called a head. This even can be as elaborate as you choose.

LOCAL SITE CRITERIA

Ladies by Design Coordinator Certification

EXAMPLES OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Organizations – Organizations such as the Boys and Girls club, YWCA and YMCA, March of Dimes etc., perform community services. Contacting your local office of the respective organization will help you.

Churches – Community service to the body of Christ could include cutting grass, providing lunch to the sick and shut in, babysitting at church, or a Mother’s Day Out. The church knows its needs; by contacting them you will know them also.

Nursing Homes – Kindness toward the elderly is a well-needed ministry. Going to a retirement facility to sing, dance, or present a play or just to say hello will demonstrate Jesus’ love.

Child Care Centers – Taking the girls or young women to a childcare center to read is a wonderful way to encourage reading and academic achievement among girls and young women.

City Activities – Your city will often sponsor city clean up efforts or special Holiday functions. Select the activity that your group would be most suited for.

Criteria on the local level is left up to the discretion of the local Jr. Debutante Coordinator. Examples of local criteria may include: Young women must be a resident of the Jr. Debutante Site, or young women have no disciplinary write-ups. As you develop your local ministry plan, include any criteria that will help you select young women who are serious about becoming a Jr. Debutante.

SETTING UP YOUR MEETINGS

Selecting a Place Setting the Meeting Atmosphere The Physical Arrangement Personalizing Your Meetings

SELECTING A PLACEThe Ladies By Design Jr. Debutante Course can easily be conducted in schools, churches, in community organizationsor even in a home. Through your planning process consider the number of young women and ministry workers that need to be accommodated. Once you determine how many people are involved you will be able to better select the place you would like to hold meetings.

Home Meetings: If you plan to conduct the ministry in your home, be sure to discuss it with your family members. Hang a calendar on the wall to remind them of weekly meetings and display milestones and accomplishments of the groups. A section on hosting the Jr. Debutante Course in your home is included in the Teacher’s Manual.

Community Recreation Center: Community Recreation Centers are a good place to hold meetings, however, they do entail cost and your times may be restricted. If you can work a deal with the recreation center staff because of meeting frequency, you may be able to get a significant discount. Fundraising can pay the cost.

Church: A church can be an excellent place to meet weekly as it is already set in a permanent location and it has the space that you need. You will have to speak with the pastor or church representative personally to work out the details.

SETTING THE MEETING ATMOSPHERE

Each Jr. Debutante class will have detailed instructions for background and the general schedule of the class. How you personalize your sessions will be the difference between a truly meaningful class and a

class and a class the yields little fruit. The following suggestions are to further enhance your classroom experience.

In order to help Jr. Debutantes feel comfortable, relaxed, and willing to participate in the group activities, it is important to establish a climate that promotes learning, peace, and support.

THE PHYSICAL ARRANGMENT

The physical arrangement of the room can make a difference in how Jr. Debutantes feel about contributing to the group. Arrange in a circle or semicircle to give the sense of equality among participants or have them bring a pillow and they each sit on the floor in a circular format. If you have to work at tables due to writing exercises, be sure to allow them to sit in a circle at the table or face on another at a rectangular table.

Other physical arrangements include breaking the class down into smaller groups and 2 facilitators working with them separately and then bringing them back together as a group. Do not use any physical barrier between you and your participants.

Tips to Establishing A Positive Atmosphere Always arrive earlier than the Jr. Debutantes and spend time in prayer and preparation. Make sure your handouts are ready and you are organized. Make people feel welcomed from the minute they walk into the room by shaking their hands, hugging them and making

eye contacts. Repeat the same process at the conclusion of the class. Make sure the teens are physically comfortable. Maintain good ventilation, comfortable temperature, and sufficient seating. Do not allow any one person to dominate the conversation. Prevent the same group from sitting together to avoid cliques forming. Never allow students to insult or call each other names.

The key to a successful group is prayer and obedience to God. As God leads you before, during, and after, take note of things that worked well and things that did not. This will help you build on each session.

PERSONALIZING YOUR MEETINGS

The following list will further help you leave your thumb-print on thelives of young women and their families.

Be consistent in what you say and do. By modeling a spirit-controlled life the young women will not only see a

role model but a real model. Pay close attention to all of the young women during the meeting, this will help you determine if participants are learning from their information, feeling alienated or need further explanation. Provide positive feedback when responses are given, such as: “That’s a good idea.” Build and protect the girl’s sense of belonging to the group: Example: “How many of you have had these same feelings?” Encourage students to talk. Example: “What do you think about this or that?” Discourage one person from dominating the entire meeting. Speak in a loud and clear voice. Send only one thought at a time. Use short clear instructions for activities; normally it works to direct an activity with quiet, yet firm authority.

Sometimes, however, it is necessary to use a more commanding tone of voice, especially with young teens.

Be aware of your body movements. As a presenter, be sure to use positive body language. Use positive non verbal communication: Facial expression/smiling Tone of voice/showing enthusiasm Direct eye contact Body language/leaning forward towards the person who is speaking. Start your statement with “I” and encourage members of the group to do the same. This encourages the young women to speak for themselves and not for the entire group. Be accurate in what you say. If you do not know the answer to a question, tell the participant you will answer the question at a later date, and make sure you do get back with the participant.

JR. DEBUTANTE FUNDRAISING

Jr. Debutante Fundraisers

Types of Fundraisers

Fundraising Planning

JR. DEBUTANTE FUNDRAISING

Although the word Fundraising begins with FUN few people find joy in asked others for money. The first rule of thumb is that people do not give to cause, they give to people with causes. In other words, you must know why you are fundraising and howtheir contribution will impact the lives of young women.

TYPES OF FUNDRAISERS Fundraisers for your site are encouraged and suggested. Having afundraising plan will allow you to offer scholarships for youngwomen who can not afford to participate, or purchase needed supplies for the Site.

Car washes, bake sales, barbeque sales are the most commonly known type of fundraisers. These fundraisers are and will continue to be lucrative. People are spontaneous in their giving, therefore, if they are hungry food will appeal to them, and if they are riding by, they are hard pressed not to stop and supportthe efforts of positive organizations.

Other types of fundraisers include, Avon sales, calendar sales, Home Interiors, and t-shirt sales.

FUNDRAISING PLANNING

In selecting a fundraiser for your Site keep in mind your resources, time for planning and amount of money trying to be raised. If you plan on raising $500.00 or more, a large one time fundraiser will be most effective. Barbeque sales have proven to be an excellent sourceto raising funds. Avon worked very well for the Cedar Hill site and can be easily adapted to any Site with an Home Interior representative.Planning the fundraiser should include the following aspects:

How much money are you trying to raise? How many volunteers do you have to work on the fundraiser?

Most reputable hotels have ballrooms or banquet halls which are rented to the public. Renting a banquet hall at a hotel usually include tables, chairs, table cloths and all other necessities to serve the guests. Any sound equipment or special lighting effects will be an additional cost aside from the room rental. Most hotels offer 2 plans to defray the cost of the room, which normally starts form $250.00 - $1,200.00 per night depending on the hotel. Most hotels do not allow you to bring in your own food and beverages; therefore, you will need to purchase the catering service of the hotel. The banquet room is sometimes rented at no charge when you guarantee a certain number of hotel rooms if you are hosting an overnight event, you can also receive a discount when you purchase a certain amount of food and drinks from the hotel. Most hotel dinners start at $18.75, which does not include gratuity or taxes.

Usually a deposit is paid upfront with the remaining balance due 30 to 60 days before the event. Some hotels charge a cancellation fee. Remember, these are general rental rules for most hotels; you must contact the hotel.

Church Banquet HallsMost churches have a banquet or fellowship hall attached to their church. Churches will rent out their banquet rooms for an hourly rate. Most ask for a refundable deposit upfront, and will usually allow you to pay for the room two weeks prior to the event. Most churches allow you to bring your own food and beverages into their facility. However, they usually do not provide any tablecloths, nor do they provide utensils for eating. Most churches also ask for you to clean the room before you leave and require you to pay a church staff member to be present for the event so they can lock up afterwards. (Just a note, most churches do not like Saturday night event because of Sunday morning worship service).

Country ClubsMost country clubs follow the same format as hotels. They charge a deposit and room rental fee. Some country clubs require someone in the organization to be a member of the country club.

Historical HomesAn old Historical home is a beautiful place to host your celebration. Please keep in mind the following however. Most homes can accommodate around 50 people comfortably, they do not lend themselves easily to serving dinner, and they are usually quite expensive.
