Dear Parents,
Asalamu Alaykum! As-Sabeel Academy would like to welcome you and your
children to our home away from home. To give you a head-start on the upcoming
academic year, we have prepared a package of ideas and activities you may complete
with your child throughout the summer. Keep in mind that these are just ways to prepare
your child for the upcoming academic year and not the full curriculum. With your help
your child will exceed the expectations of the South Carolina Standards, inshAllah.
Our goal is not only to instill a strong Islamic foundation and academic
background, but to have our students feel safe and welcomed to our school, inshAllah.
You can help us begin reaching this goal by having your child become familiar with the
Masjid throughout the summer.
I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation and your effort to make
this a successful year for As-Sabeel Academy and for you and your child. Have a fun and
safe summer! We look forward to seeing you in the upcoming academic year, inshAllah!
Sincerely,

2nd Grade Behavior Management
It’s important for students to have a structured classroom in order to feel safe, and
therefore enhance their learning experience. In order to achieve this, students need to
establish mutual respect for each other and instill positive behavior in the classroom. Rules
will help students focus and achieve their goals in a positive and timely manner. These rules
are:
1. Raise your hand to ask or answer a question.
2. Listen to directions and stay focused on your task.
3. Be respectful to other students by watching your words.
4. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
5. Ask for permission before borrowing from others.
6. DO NOT bring toys, games, or anything that can distract you from learning.
o A first warning will be given to the student.
o The second warning will result in taking the object away till the end of
the day.
o The third warning will result in taking the object away till the end of
the week.
A ticket system will be a way to reinforce positive behavior and academic
achievement in the classroom. A student will be given a ticket for his recognized behavior and
weekly academic achievements in the classroom. At the end of the week, the student will
choose a gift from the treasure box depending on the amount of tickets he/she gets.
Behavior and homework will be recorded in a log and sent home on a daily behavior.
Major behavior and academic achievements will be recognized throughout the year and on
award day.

Dear Parents,
Arabic Class
Learning Arabic is essential to read and understand the Quran. One of our goals at As-Sabeel Academy
is to teach the students the Arabic language and the rules to read Quran.
Students at As-Sabeel Academy start learning the Arabic alphabet and the different shapes of the letters
at K4. By the end of K4, students can read three-letter words. In K5, students learn to read words with
tashkeel (fathah, kasrah, and dhammah). By the end of K5 students can read and understand short
sentences. In the first grade, we teach “I Love Arabic Level 1” which provides the students with a
comprehensive list of Arabic vocabulary. Additionally, the students learn more advanced rules of
reading Quran like tanwin and tashdid. In the second grade, we teach “I Love Arabic Level 2” which
enable the students to read a short paragraph (containing 30-65 words) and write single words to build
a sentence.
Alhamdulillah, As-Sabeel students learn a lot during the academic year. However, students forget 80% of
what they have learned over the summer break. Thus, we strongly encourage you to review with your
child what they have learned. The following are some suggested books:
K4: Arabic for Beginners by Muhammad S. Adly
I Love Arabic (level Pre-K)
K5: I Love Arabic (level KG)
First grade: I Love Arabic (level 1)
Second Grade: I Love Arabic (level 2)
Third Grade: I Love Arabic (level 3)
Fourth Grade: I Love Arabic (level 4)
We appreciate your efforts to make this a successful year for your child.
Sincerely,
Shiam Harsho QIAS Lead Teacher As-Sabeel Academy of Greenville
