Walton-on-Trent C of E Primary
and Nursery School – Weekly News
Friday 24th April 2020
Weekly Hello
Another week has passed and we hope that you have enjoyed the first week of the Summer term- with a difference.
We have all been really pleased by the amount and the quality of learning that is taking place with your families. Your photos, video clips and messages to the teachers via Showbie, Class Dojo and
Twitter always put a smile on our faces. We really love seeing what you have been up to.
The teaching assistants are now also on Class Dojo so as your children can send them a message too and they can see what your children have been learning. They would love to hear from you too, so
please send them a message or two every so often.
All the staff had a Zoom meeting on Monday to start the new term and it was really great to see everyone and find out how we are all doing in our 'new normal' times. Everyone is very much missing
school and being together with the children and each other. It was so lovely to see the team altogether again - even it was on a computer screen and we are very much looking forward to
returning to school as soon as we are able to.
Teachers are clearly very busy with setting the daily leaning for the children and trying to catch up with many of the administrative tasks that come with teaching that we find impossible to fit in to the
usual school day.
TAs and teachers have been doing lots of online courses for example in health and safety, phonics and SEND and also preparing resources for when we return. Miss Reynolds is busy with all sorts
of school business organisation and Mrs Copley is keeping on top of the administrative aspects, so everyone is very busy alongside juggling school with our own families. We know you are too!
Lots of staff are trying to learn something new, for those of you who follow us on Twitter, you will have seen Mrs Claxton's fabulous rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow and Mr Carlin has set a challenge for you to guess which instrument he has just purchased and will be learning . I am not
sure you will guess it... a very tricky instrument! I have bought a ukulele; however, I am struggling to get passed the correct tuning of it so don't hold out any hopes of me getting past that stage at the
moment! We are hoping to start the new term with an assembly where we can share something new that we have tried or something that has inspired us all during Covid-19. So please encourage your
child to try new things and to make the most of this time that we have together as we would love to hear and see some new talents when we return to our school.
Lastly, it is very important that you keep in touch with your class teacher via Dojo and/or Showbie as we would like to hear from each family at least once per week to keep in touch as part of our safety and wellbeing procedures. In the unlikely event that we are not able to contact you, we may need to
contact external agencies for support to ensure your family is safe and well.
Thanks again for everything that you are doing to support your child and ensure that learning continues. We will keep you updated as soon as we know of any changes to the current situation.
Stay safe and happy, Mrs Rowe🌈

Hi Owls,
In the Easter holidays I have been keeping myself busy by visiting the virtual zoo, playing guitar, baking and chilling with my dogs.

My first week of the summer term home schooling This week I’ve been working on our new school topic, Ancient Greeks. I have been looking closely at Gods and Goddesses, my favourite goddess is Aphrodite, she is the goddess of love and beauty. I have had great fun learning all
about her and look forward to finding out more.
We have also been hunting for rocks we can paint and plant in the village for people to find. We have had great fun spotting rocks that people have already painted and want to add to the
collection.
We have also found many fun and exciting walks around our village. I am missing my friends, teachers and family very much and hope you are all keeping safe
Love Izzy miss you lots and lots

Message from Mr Carlin
Hello everybody, firstly I would like to say it’s amazing being part of our community at Walton. It has been so welcoming since I joined you all in January which seems so long ago now. I
hope you all had a nice Easter and lots of chocolate despite the lockdown. I thought I’d update you all on what I’ve been doing. So here goes, I have started a couch to 5k as I’ve always
found running tough and I have challenged myself and now about to start week 2. I don’t like it but I persevere and know that I can do it. I have also started learning to play a musical instrument which I told you about on Twitter. If you can guess which instrument, I am
learning to play, I will give the first person to guess correctly a prize once we return to school. It’s been a busy few week.
If there’s anything you are feeling down about then think of things that you can do which may challenge you and see if you can do them. This is what I have been doing. We will all be
together again soon. Miss you all
Our School. A little poem I have written.
Our school is wonderful and kind, one of the best you will ever find, with that in mind our children are brilliant and awesome. This is why they blossom.
Our staff are stars that all shine bright, every effort, every job, each planning day, they all have a positive say in running our school day. The children are fine, we celebrate shine and
beliefs inspire us on.
Living, learning and laughing we all get on so well together, happiness is key that’s what sets us free. We are not just colleagues, teachers, pupils and friends, we are a family that trends.
We are Walton On Trent and always cement.
Mr Carlin
Joke of the week- Why did the mushroom get invited to the party? Because he was a fun guy (fungi).
