new viewing platform being announced for the top of the Wainuiomata Hill.

This has been planned to go along with the new building of a bridge crossing the top of the summit.

Councillor Campbell Barry says this is great news for Wainuiomata and the entire Hutt City.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the hill lookout is Lower Hutt's premier view, and the current condition of the lookout is mediocre at best,” he says.

“With the summit bridge to be built over the coming months, and the recent announcement about getting a shared cycle way across the whole hill, this platform will be an excellent addition and will really help transform the hill into an attraction."

was in total support of the project saying this is something that the board discussed when they fi rst came together this term.

“I look forward to the opening of this, it is a great way for us to enjoy the view that is on offer,” he says.

One concern however was that with the building of the bridge, there will be a loss in car parks on the other side of the hill, where mountain bikers park while going for a ride.

“If we are losing total car parking space on the hill it is an issue, as once the bridge is there mountain bikers will park on the platform side,” Josh says.

Mayor Ray Wallace was surprised to hear about the loss of car parks.

“This is the fi rst I have heard about losing parks,” he says.

“I would like to know if bikers are will-ing to park at the Waiu Street car park.”

The board agreed to submit a proposal about undertaking the proposal in the next fi nancial year, and were asking what would happen with the loss of car parks.

Besides being the name of a very good beer made by a Wellington brewery, a pernicious weed has been found at Baring Head – and is one that causes harm to other plants.

Colin Ryder, treasurer at Friends of Baring Head, says the very attractive Yellow Horned Poppy (Glaucium fl avum) certainly meets this criterion, and indeed at many other coastal sites throughout New Zealand.

"This garden escape is a prolifi c self-seeder and can quickly overwhelm our native rare coastal ecosystems, such as coastal turfs and cushion fi elds."

While other important weed species,

such as boxthorn and tree lupin, can be relatively easily dealt with by spraying, albeit at some expense, he says horned poppy is best controlled by hand, either by pulling or grubbing them out.

This is why, while most of us have been enjoying the balmy summer weather, bands of volunteers, organised by the Friends of Baring Head, have been out, tackling the dense stands of Horned Poppy.

"Over the past two summers, we’ve cleared much of the beach along Fitzroy Bay and made signifi cant inroads along the southern beach between the river and the boulders."

"Because the seed is now setting, we’ve spent the past few weeks removing sev-eral cubic metres of seedheads to prevent further infestations."

"We can then remove the plants them-selves at our leisure over the rest of the year.

Because the seed itself doesn’t remain viable for long, we are confi dent we can get on top of this particular pernicious weed."

"The work itself is quite light and enjoyable, so if you would like to help get in touch." Contact Colin on 478 4391 or at [email protected].

Local motorbike riders and hot rod owners will be joining forces to help raise money for Ataahua.

The Wainuiomata Motorcycle Club has organised a fundraising ride to be taken place on February 21.

Representatives of the club say the club came up with the idea when they saw it in the newspaper and thought they must do something about it.

“A couple of us have classic cars as well, we will have bikes and cars down here,” says Donut.

The plan is to charge $10 to each car or motorbike that is entering, and all funds raised will be given to Ataahua’s family.

The family is raising money to gain Ataahua a new portable oxygen machine so that she can go and enjoy life outside home.

The club wants to get as many people as possible down there and is encouraging anyone with a bike to join in.

“Anyone with any sort of bike can take part plus anyone with a hot rod or a car with a bit of difference as well,” Donut says.

Some suggestions are Hot Rods, Stock Cars or Vintage Cars, anything but the normal car.

The ride will start from the car park at the tavern around 1pm and then will fi nish at the same place so people can donate a gold coin and have a look at the cars and bikes.

“If anyone has a gem in their garage, bring

Riding for Ataahua

it out, it is a great cause,” he says.“The day is all about raising money for

Ataahua, we want to put all the focus on her and her family.”

If anyone can help-out the club is wel-

coming anyone with ideas on how to raise as much money as they can.

Dogs a plenty

By Aaron Meredith

It was tail-wagging stuff as local dogs and their best friends got the chance to get out and have some fun together when Paws in the Park hit town over the weekend.

The event encouraged dog owners to come down and take their four-legged family mem-bers for a walk in one of Wainuiomata’s many walking routes.

Ali Van Barneveld from Hutt City Council says the day was a chance to get people more aware of good dog ownership.

“It’s all about teaching dog owners to socialize their dogs and about things you have to do when owning a dog,” she says

The event was run by both the Hutt City and Greater Wellington Regional councils and is the fi rst that has taken place in Wainuiomata.

Catherine Wylde from the regional council says the day went really well and provided an opportunity for people to learn about where they can walk their dogs.

“It is promoting different areas to dog owners and it’s also a great opportunity for people to socialize their dogs,” she says.

There were a total of 62 dogs that attended the event, ranging from Chihuahuas right up to much larger dogs such as German Shepherds.

Wainuiomata/ Orongorongo Park ranger Dion Ngatoro bought his dog River along as well, and says that the event was a great idea.

He led the large contingent around Gums Loop Track, and every dog came back with a good walk behind them.

There were also a few games organised for the dogs when they got back including agility and ball games.

Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace wants residents around the region to heed the warnings of their Queensland counterparts before considering the current draft proposal for a reorganisation of local Government in Wellington.

For seven years, the Queensland region has been through a number of amalgamation and de-amalgamation changes; and Bob Johnson, chairman of a Queensland residents group says that it effects local democracy in a terrible way.

“The effect on local democracy is devastat-ing wherever amalgamation has been put into place,” Bob says.

“While amalgamation might have looked like a ‘bigger is better’ option, I warn New

Zealanders from falling into the same trap,” he says.

Hutt City Council is carefully looking at the restructure in local Government and how it would affect its residents.

Following the creation of Auckland’s super city and the merger of its councils, local bodies around New Zealand have been looking at joint operations.

The possible merger would see Hutt City Council amalgamate with neighbouring counterparts to form a larger regional entity, Wellington Regional Council.

“We don't want a super city and neither does our community. If anything we believe a shared services agreement with other councils would work, and work well," Mr Wallace says.

Wainuiomata ward councillors Margaret Willard and Campbell Barry both do not

support a large entity based in Wellington and including all local authorities in the Wel-lington region, saying it will result in a loss of local democracy.

Mr Wallace stresses the importance of resi-dents expressing their opinions on a potential change to local Government.

Neighbours provide a good example

FACTS:In a media release earlier this month, a Queensland residents group says that in 2008 the Queensland Government budgeted A$28million (NZ$29.7 million) assistance for councils to amalgamate. Actual costs were more than A$200 million. It also says local Government debt before amalgamation was $2billion, but doubled to $4billion by 2014.

A well-used driveway in Wai-nuiomata will be given a name in order to remember those who went to war 100 years ago.

The driveway leading to the car park at the back of the Wainuio-mata Community Hub and library will be named ANZAC Way in coming months, with Mayor Ray Wallace saying that this is a request that has come from the local RSA.

“It is in commemoration of 100 years of the ANZAC’s,” he says.

Organisers thought it was a key that they did not rename the entire area as the area of Queen Street and Queen Street Reserve was named after Queen Elizabeth.

The centenary of New Zealand's participation in the First World War will be marked from 2014-2019 through commemorative events, projects and activities in all parts of the country.

Driveway now Anzac Way

The First World War (1914–1918) was one of the most signifi cant events of the 20th Century and had a deep and lingering impact on New Zealand society.

Ten per cent of New Zealand’s population of one million served overseas, of which more than 18,000 died and over 40,000

were wounded. Nearly every New Zealand family was affected.

The growing attendance at An-zac Day ceremonies in New Zealand, and the steady increase in visitors to battlefi elds in Turkey and Europe, demonstrate a con-tinuing interest in the signifi cance of this confl ict.

Wainuiomata families may have noticed a new mini roundabout outside Wainuiomata Primary School – but wait, this is only the beginning of what has been proposed.

The new road layout has been de-signed to make everything a lot safer for children going to and leaving the Homedale-based school.

As part of the proposals, there will be a new crossing placed on Homedale Road as well as changes to the parking restrictions in the area.

The topic was discussed at the lat-est Wainuiomata Community Board meeting and was met with generally positive feedback.

Mayor Ray Wallace is very much onside with the new plan saying it was pleasing to see.

“I think that anything that makes things safer for our children is a good thing,” he says.

This was echoed by Richard Sinnott

who says there is a similar system at his daughter’s school and it works great.

There were some concerns about the proposal from Rima Workman, concerned about where staff park on Poole Crescent.

“The biggest problem is staff parking on Poole Cres, on the school side of the road,” she says.

Her suggestion was that staff could park over the other side of the road, so parents could park on the school side, preventing children from crossing the road.

“As a parent, I approached the school about this on many occasions,” Rima says.

“There could possibly be a time restriction on the school side of the road.”

Mayor Wallace agrees with Rima, saying that it is a very good idea and the board should follow it through.

“We don’t want children running across the road to mum and dad in the car,” he says.

New road layout safer

Wainuiomata’s Community Board members will be consult-ing with locals before they make any submission over the threaten-ing amalgamation proposals.

At the board meeting last Wednesday, calls were made to make a submission against the proposal set forward by the Local Government Commission (LGC).

There was also Derek Wilshere, a representative of the group Bet-ter Hutt Valley which supports the proposal, who would like to see the board not make a submission.

“We would suggest that the board agrees not to support a submission, unless it has com-munity support,” he says.

Local Mike Grigg says that the board must make a submission, as he feels that the community will

lose local democracy if they don’t.“The LGC never visited here,

public consultation is very impor-tant and Wainuiomata deserves to be respected,” Mike says.

“I urge the board to make a sub-mission fi ghting for the retention of the community board.”

Mayor Ray Wallace says that the council will be making a submis-sion and that the board should do their part in getting people to

make a submission.“At least we get out there and

encourage people to make their submission,” he says.

Community board chairman Karl Dixon says it will make a submission but only once they have consulted with members of the community.

“I have had some conversations with our community and I know how they feel,” he says.

“We do need to consult with more people however.”

Member Richard Sinnott agreed with Karl, saying that the board cannot submit yet.

“We can’t make a submission yet if we haven’t had a conversa-tion with our community,” he says.

“It will make for a stronger more relevant submission.”

MINUTES WITH: Tim Barlow

My last meal on Earth would be...

One of my best holidays was...

To Eastern Europe where I met a beautiful Romanian gypsy woman with two Husski dogs and stayed with a lovely community in the Buda hills above Budapest.

My guilty TV pleasure is...

The X-factor, Australia.

I’m inspired by...

Artists who create interesting projects with communities. Jeanne Van Heejswik in the Netherlands. Rick Lowe in Houston and Tania Bruguera in Cuba are three I can think of.

What is one thing our readers would be surprised to know about you?

I spent 15yrs in the com-mercial fi lm industry. I once worked on a music video in Spain with Ginger Spice, and built props for the band Muse.

Fresh NZ seafood. Paua and whitebait patties, Crayfish, Kina’s, mussels and scallops, all at once!

What would you spend your last $100 on?

I do every month, and its on petrol.

What’s next on your wish list?

To help create an amazing Water Festival for Wainuiomata.

Patients can now dispose of used needles more conveni-ently and safely, thanks to a new disposal scheme funded by the Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast district health boards (DHBs).

Since December 2014, Hutt Valley and Wellington patients who use needles to receive medication like insulin or chemotherapy at home will

now be able to safely dispose their used sharps at pharmacies across the region.

Diabetes nurse specialist Julie Bate says: “There’s been considerable demand for this type of scheme from patients who regularly use needles at home to manage their diabe-tes.”

In the past, patients had to bring their needles back to

the hospital, so Julie believes it will be more convenient for them now to dispose of their used needles safely at their local pharmacy.

“We hope that it will also reduce the number of used needles appearing in unwanted places, like household rubbish and recycling bins,” she says.

Patients are welcome to trans-port their sharps to pharmacies

inside suitably tough plastic containers, like those used for bleach or dishwashing powder.

Local patient Debbie manag-es her diabetes from home and says the new scheme makes it much easier to get rid of her used sharps safely.

“Being able to dispose of them at my local chemist means they’re not piling up at home anymore, waiting for me

to do something about them,” Debbie says.

This collaborative scheme between the Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast DHBs builds on an existing loan-system for sharps containers developed by Hutt Hospital, and was driven by positive feedback from patients and pharmacists for more community-based services.

Evaluation contest at ToastmastersToastmasters believe that

people blossom when given positive feedback about things, but become disheartened when criticised without getting sug-gestions for development

In an evaluation contest, all contestants listen to the same speech, taking notes of what they liked about it and areas of possible improvement.

The contestants are then taken to another room where they have fi ve minutes to create their evaluation.

At the end of this period, all notes are taken away, and one by one they come back into the main room to present their evaluation, nobody is allowed to hear another’s evaluation until they have given their own.

Wainuiomata Toastmasters re-cently held its evaluation contest with seven members, experi-enced and not-so-experienced, taking the opportunity to evalu-ate a speech from Damy Patel (Hutt Valley Toastmasters).

Toastmasters from outside the club were in attendance to judge the contest.

After l istening to Damy recounted her experience of preparing for a recent family holiday, Wainuiomata members took full advantage of the allot-ted time to gather their thoughts into a three minute evaluation.

The speaker was treated to seven positive evaluations that each included possible ways for improving the presentation.

In a very close contest, fi rst place went to Neville Isherwood from Lynne O’Brien and David Smith

Neville will represent Wai-nuiomata Toastmasters at the area evaluation contests in March

After the contest, Damy said that, despite only being in Toast-masters for six months, she had enjoyed the experience and was astounded at the positive feed-back and helpful suggestions she had received.POSITIVE FEEDBACK: Lynne O’Brien, Neville Isherwood and David Smith.

Ghostbusters in WainuiomataIt is fi ngers crossed for the upcoming screening of Ghostbusters

in Wainuiomata. The valley will hopefully be able see something strange in their

neighbourhood as the Hutt City Council gets ready to replay the 1980s fi lm after it was cancelled because of wind.

The original screening in Wainuiomata was part of the Films by Starlight series, but has now been given another date for fans of the cult classic and enjoy the entertainment.

Event coordinator Rebecca Travers says: “Wainuiomata people were so excited about Ghostbusters playing in their local park that it was heart-breaking that we had to cancel.”

“We’re excited to bring it back and being a couple of months later in the year means that we can start earlier, which is great for families with younger children,” Rebecca says.

The free event will take place on March 28 at the Queen Street Reserve. The fi lm will start at 7.30pm. People are encouraged to set up a rug and come on down to see this movie.

Dogs are not allowed but any ghosts that are haunting Wainuiomata that night are more than welcome to come down and enjoy the fun.

Members of the public are shocked by the vandalism that took place at the Wainuiomata Community Hub last week.

The library was vandalised with damage caused to the buildings and windows, and Mayor Ray Wallace says he is disgusted with what has happened.

He is hoping that the community can help police fi nd whoever did this.

“If anyone has any information can they please contact the council or police so we can fi nd these people,” he says.

Staff members at the Hub were unsettled by this act of vandalism and the Mayor says he is disappointed that this has happened.

In 2013, Wainuiomata Primary School took a stand against vandalism by having the school as a community hub.

Property damage throughout the school year in 2013 included gate latches, rugby posts and the removal of a Maori carving that was given to the school.

Vandals also emptied the school’s emergency water supply tank and etched graffi ti into the windows, which cost more than $4000 to replace.

Remember the Wainuiomata Police Station is closed to the public on Mondays however open Tuesdays through to Friday 9am -1pm.

If you witness a crime or suspicious behaviour please continue to phone 111 or phone our Crime Reporting Line on 439 0500 for non-urgent matters.

Damage to Community HubNominations are open for the Neighbour of the Year Award. The nominations are open until March 6 and everyone is encouraged to nominate who they think are worthy winners.Nomination forms can be picked up from the commu-nity centre, the library and the mall. The award is funded by Hutt City Safe and organiser Dawn McKinley is hoping for the same judges as last year. The winner will be presented with their award by Mayor Ray Wallace on March 23.

Simple vehicle maintenance can prevent both frustration and expensive repairs.

The New Zealand Automobile Association recommends a ser-vice every 10,000 km – and for most families the recent holiday period travelling to and from the beach, could have taken the car over the limit.

It’s not just the engine or the brakes though – drivers also have to think about the battery, windscreen or side window glass and tyres.

Servicing:This can maximise the lifespan

and value of your car and with regular servicing, you can fi nd out what your car needs.

Repairs:Put your mind at ease and let

the trusted experts look after

your vehicle. Take your car to get its repairs done at an authorised workshop.

Batteries:Most places can test your bat-

tery and if required, install a new one. Might as well get the oil and tyres checked at the same time.

Tyres:Tyres are vital to your car’s

safety. Looking after them will save you money on tyres and fuel.

Glass: Need your windscreen repaired or whole windscreen re-placed? The AA has workshops that fi x chips and cracks with a mobile repair service.

The AA is a mutual organisa-tion and an incorporated society that provides vehicle breakdown assistance and related services to its members.

The New Zealand Child Cancer Founda-tion is seeking volunteers from around the valley to help with its local appeal.

This year’s local street appeal will be held over March 20-21, and is a key part of the annual Child Cancer Appeal Month, which runs throughout March.

It aims to both raise funds and awareness about the vital support the foundation offers children with cancer and their families around New Zealand.

More than three New Zealand children are diagnosed with cancer each week which is why the fundraising is an important part of the appeal each year.

The foundation aims to reduce the impact

of cancer by offering services that ensure children and their families are supported, informed and well cared for at every stage of their cancer journey.

At any one time, the foundation is assisting more than 500 families across the country.

It connects with families upon diagnosis and continues to offer support, information and services in hospital, at home and in the community. People who are able to spare an hour or two on either the 20 or 21 March are asked to please register their interest at www.childcancer.org.nz. Alternatively, they can call 0800 424 453 to be connected with their local branch.

Explore the latest trends in sustainable farming through a science-based approach to a wide range of organic techniques and systems.

Ideal for lifestyle block owners, home gardeners and/or commercial growers, this course will provide key knowledge and skills required for organic growing. Learn to build ecosystems, promote biodiversity and increase soil and plant health, instead of relying on arti cial fertilisers and poisonous sprays.

Topics covered include organic philosophies, certi cation, soil management, soil food webs, composting, companion planting, crop rotation, green manures, weed control, pest and disease management, plant knowledge and an introduction to permaculture. This knowledge can be applied not only to food crops, but to the cultivation of any plants – from suburban gardens to pastures, orchards, shelter belts and woodlots.

In addition to attending tutorials and workshops or eld trips, students will need to complete practical and theory assignments in their own time. Some prior knowledge of horticulture and growing plants is recommended although keen beginners are invited to apply.

Although this programme has a horticultural bias, pastoral farmers wishing to get an understanding of what organic farming is all about will also nd this course of value. Upon successful completion you will be awarded a Certi cate in Organic Horticulture (Level 3).

Wainuiomata High School Students will get the chance to have some fun this week.

The School is having their annual athletics day on February 13, where students compete against each other to see who is the fastest or who can throw the longest.

Students team up in their houses and points are added together to fi nd a winner on the day, and points get added towards the house totals for the end of the year.

It’s not all about competition how-ever, as some students have been

known to dress up and really get into the feeling of the day.

The School has had an athletics day ever since it was fi rst opened, and every student has enjoyed the day in the sun.

The day is weather permitting, but with this good weather at the moment the likelihood is that it will be another hot day for all.

The school is encouraging students to be sun smart, and to bring lots of water to stay hydrated.

Last year the Tuwhare house was the top house after Athletics day although the Ngata house was the overall win-ner during the year.

Athletics Day coming up

The Cricket World Cup is just around the corner, so it’s time to make some bold predictions that will most likely not come true.

First South Africa will be knocked out in the semifi nals by Australia, my opinion.

Somehow the draw will line these two up in a semifi nal in Sydney, and Australia will be spurred on to win in memory of Phil Hughes.

Second New Zealand will make it to the semifi nals unbeaten and then lose to Sri Lanka, again my opinion.

Sri Lanka will be a far superior team than the one that has been touring here; they always seem to make fi nals.

Think of them as the French in the Rugby World Cup, do nothing for three years then come within a whisker of winning.

Third, India will struggle and then blame it on the conditions rather than the fact they were outplayed. This side historically never play well in either Australia or New Zealand, just look at the last couple of

years if you want proof.Fourth, Ireland will make the quarter

fi nals, pushing their claim to be included as a test nation.

This will come at either the expense of the West Indies or India, if Ireland knocks over the ‘Windies’ in Nelson that will set them off nicely.

And Fifth, Scotland will come so nearly close to upsetting England in Christchurch.

The Scottish will be up for this match, like all Scottish sporting teams they would love to knock over the ‘Poms’.

Scotland has been playing well recently and England’s form has slumped so this will be closer than you think.

I guess I better pick the winner for the fi nal then; I’m going to say Australia, purely because they are at home.

Of course, these are just wild predictions, and they most likely will never happen.

What are your predictions for this year’s event? Email [email protected].

The Wainuiomata Premier Rugby League team is starting off their sea-son in much the same way as the NRL teams do, by playing some nines.

This weekend the team is travelling up to Levin to enter into the Nines tournament.

The club also wants some people to come up and support the team in the supporters bus the club has organized.

The cost of getting on the bus is also helping cover the Premier Teams

registration into the tournament. If anyone is interested please contact

Taz Buchanan to book your seats on the bus and see the Wainuiomata Boys strut their stuff against the best that the country has to offer.

On February 28 the club is also host-ing a Nines tournament at Wise Park, hoping that the game will get some much needed funds back into the club.

This is the fi rst Nines tournament the club has hosted and they are hop-ing to get as many teams as possible to enter.

The Wainuiomata Cricket Club had a bit of interclub warfare on Waitangi Day with the two T20 squads going up against each other.

The game was played at Bry-an Heath Park and was hotly contested right up to the last

delivery. The Brownie Squad batted fi rst

and set a solid 149/5 off their 20 overs.

Team Rosco then batted sec-ond and put up a good fight, falling just 11 runs short with a total of 138/9.

This left the team batting fi rst with the bragging rights moving

on in the season. The results leave Brownie sit-

ting in second on the table, on 24 points after their 12 games so far.

Rosco is sitting in fourth on 17 points after playing 11 games.

Next week Brownie is play-ing Upper Hutt Piwakawaka at Bryan Heath Park, while

Rosco is clashing with the Taita Squashies at Fraser Park, both games start at 2.

In other results the One Day squad went down to Te Aroha by seven wickets after only managing 173/10 batting fi rst.

Te Aroha chased it down easily within 30 overs.

The Wainuiomata women’s soft-ball teams had a successful week-end, with both teams going through the weekend unbeaten.

Wainuiomata had a double header this weekend, playing two games back to back, but that didn’t slow them down.

They started off the day by play-ing the Giants but this was never close as Wainuiomata ran away with 21-7.

The second game went just as successfully for Wainuiomata as

they ran away with a 9-nil victory over the Saints.

The Wainuiomata Rare Breeds also had a rather successful day easily defeating Totara Park.

It ended up with a 13-3 victory, giving the club a great reason to cel-ebrate another successful weekend.

The results leave Wainuiomata on top of the table, having won 13 out of their 15 games played.

Wainuiomata is sitting on 26 points, two points ahead of the Steelers who are in second.

The Rare Breeds are sitting in fi fth spot still, having won eight

out of their 15 games, and is sitting on 16 points with a four point gap between both the team above and below them on the ladder.

This week see the teams each playing one game, with Wai-nuiomata playing Hutt City United Gary’s at JMM 1.

The Wainuiomata Rare Breeds are playing against the Demons on JMM 2.

Both games begin at 1.15pm.The under 15 boys are playing

The Cardinals at Ball Park starting at 9am.

Successful weekend for softballers

More players are needed for Wai-nuiomata Rugby Club women’s team ahead of the upcoming season.

The team has lost some players to a combination of reasons – players going to another team and players retiring among them – but is positive about the season ahead.

Coach Willie Gemmell says that the team is trying to promote numbers.

“We want to get and keep high numbers at our trainings,” he says.

The team has already started their preseason training and has three games coming up next month, in order to get ready for the season.

“Anyone that is keen to play rugby

should come down and join us,” Willie says.

Player Acacia Claridge says that the team has been advertising via Facebook and text to try get as many players down as possible.

“Our team has a wide age range, from about 14 to people in their fourties, we are welcoming anyone,” she says.

The team is also encouraging anyone who wants to come down and give it a go training to see if they like it.

“Just come down and give it a go, even if you just want to train,” Acacia says.

Alice Soper agrees saying that rugby is a game for everyone to have

a go.“It is a game for every shape, every-

one has a spot on the team,” she says.“When I started I was a skinny

white girl and they chucked me on the wing, now I’m in the front row.”

The team is also looking for spon-sorship to help out with covering costs for club fees and training jerseys.

“If anyone is keen to sponsor us and get their name on our jersey, please do,” says Willie Gemmell.

The 80/80 rugby team is also look-ing for players this year. The team is under threat of not taking part in this year’s competition so need as many players as possible.

If you are interested in playing for either team please contact the club.
