The Bereavement Department is looking for a volunteer or

st. Unity will provide you with the supplies,

ingredients and directions to make the ornaments in your home. Each batch makes approximately a dozen ornaments and we are looking to have about 10 dozen ornaments made. Contact Theresa if interested.

The Marketing Department is looking for volunteers to model for a photoshoot. Unity

refreshed their website last April and is in need of new photos to display, specific volunteer roles. Volunteers will model in their roles or pose as patients and family. Patient Care Staff are looking for volunteers

who are willing to sew catheter bag covers (Foley bag covers) for Unity patients.

The need for these bags in colors and patterns appropriate for men and women are appreciated. These simple items help bring dignity to the patients who receive them.

We do not have fabric to offer for this program at this time. However, friends looking to clear their stash, fabric store clearance bins, rummage sales and thrift stores may have inexpensive fabric available. Dark fabrics work best. We are also hoping to have a supply of Velcro available for this project soon.

Should you choose to help with this program, you will receive volunteer hours for your time. At

the end of the year, we will send an “In-Kind” donation letter, which can be used as a charitable deduction on your income tax.

Please contact Theresa for details or to receive a pattern and instructions.

As incredible as it may be, we will soon be looking to create our annual "A Gift from the Heart" holiday card, which also serves as Unity's year-end appeal.

Each year, photos and artwork are submitted by Unity volunteers, staff, patients and families to be considered as the holiday card. Photos and artwork must be original, have a winter theme and be of high quality in order to be reproduced. We then include a small bio about the person whose submission was selected.

All submissions must be sent to Director of Development Diana Butz by October 1 for consideration. Email [email protected] with your submissions.

Shoppe News We are so excited to welcome back Alicia Schram as the Unity Resale Shoppe Manager!

As many of you know, Alicia was involved in a terrible car accident this past January and faced many surgeries and a long recovery and healing process as a result.

During her absence, shoppe volunteers truly rallied to make sure the shoppe continued to move forward in her

absence. Many shoppe volunteers picked up extra shifts and learned new roles to ensure the shoppe remained fully staffed. We extend our deepest gratitude to these amazing volunteers! There are no words to express our thanks! What an amazing group of volunteers!

Please feel free to stop by the shoppe and welcome back Alicia! And while you are there, remember that the shoppe is accepting donations of furniture and household items during all shoppe hours. Proceeds from the sales benefit Unity's bereavement programs and help ensure end-of-life care is available to all.

If you would like information on volunteering at the shoppe, please contact Kelly Lautenslager at [email protected].

“A Gift from the Heart” Art

We are so excited to announce this year's Honor a Life Tree Lighting will take place Thursday, December 13, at the National Railroad Museum in conjunction with the Festival of Trees.

This new venue will allow us to fully participate in this honor ceremony without worrying about the winter weather!

Mark your calendars, and stay tuned for more information.

It’s that time of year again! Unity’s Bereavement Department is looking for six volunteers to help sew the memorial quilts.

We are looking for someone with quilting experience who is willing to “square-up” the family squares prior to quilting days. We have enough squares from families to complete 2 quilts again this year.

Directions are available and can be shared in advance so you are familiar with the process.

Don’t sew but would like to be part of the group? We could use two people who are willing to iron and assist with other miscellaneous tasks.

The Classroom is reserved for Tuesday, August 28

th, and

Wednesday, August 29th

, from 9 am to 3 pm both days. Please let me know if you’re able to help one or both days, if you are able to bring your sewing machine and/or possibly an iron and/or ironing board. We will have carts readily available to help you bring supplies from your vehicle into the Classroom. If the second day is needed to complete the project, we leave everything set up so you can “pick up” where you left off the previous day.

This year’s quilt dedication is September 17th at 6:00 pm at Heritage Hill. Quilters are encouraged to attend. Experience firsthand the impact your work has on everyone in attendance.

Please contact Theresa if you are able to assist.

For those unfamiliar with the program, bereaved Unity

families are offered participation by creating a quilt square in memory of their loved one. Unity supplies directions and a “base” piece of muslin fabric for the family to work

with. Family members use their creativity to design a

meaningful square that represents their loved one.

Volunteers get together in August to sew the squares

together to create the memorial quilts. A quilt dedication is then

held in September to honor those memorialized on the

quilts and family members are invited to attend. The quilts are

revealed to the public and dedicated at the event as well.

After the dedication, the quilts are displayed in the lobby of

Unity’s De Pere Administration Building until new quilts are

created the following year. Past years’ quilts are stored and

made available to businesses, libraries, hospitals and clinics

who wish to borrow them, display them and promote

hospice care in their communities.

God has given us two hands - one to receive with and the other to give with. We are not cisterns made for hoarding; we are channels made for sharing. -Billy Graham
