Character Counts
Pillars of Character:• Trustworthiness
• Respect• Responsibility• Fairness• Caring
• Citizenship
Sign In
In compliance with the law, all visitors coming into the school must sign in and wear an identification badge.
The visitor laptop is located in the front office.Your hours of service make a difference!
MES Volunteer Hours • When logging in at school you MUST LOG IN AS A
VOLUNTEER! • If your name does not appear in the drop down list
when selecting “Volunteer” please let someone in the front office know, so your name can be added into the computer!
• We lose A LOT of volunteer hours each year because volunteers are not logging in correctly!!
Logging Hours Outside of School• You must track your total volunteer hours that would
not have been logged into the school registration computer.
• Examples of volunteer hours completed outside of the school. – Preparing for a classroom party– Scheduling/coordinating activities for a committee from your home– Shopping/preparing food for conference dinners– Participating in an evening PTA meeting, etc.
• FCPS Tracking Log
Why Track Hours?
• In order to qualify for the MDSE (Maryland State Department of Education) Certificate, MES must have twice the number of volunteer hours as students in our schools. • For example, if we have 700 students in our schools, we
must have at least 1400 volunteer hours to qualify for the certificate.
• Why is this important – earning this certificate assists in earning grants and funding for our schools!!
Confidentiality A priority! Information about a student or teacher should never
be discussed outside of the school or with another person unless it is with a necessary staff member.
Contact the teacher or an administrator with any concerns that you may have.
Thank you for your help in keeping MES information or data secure.
MES Confidentiality Agreement!
Food Allergy Precautions
Food items of any kind should never be distributed to a child without the permission of the homeroom teacher.
If a child complains to you that they aren’t feeling well, please inform a teacher or staff member immediately!
Some reminders
When you come in to volunteer, this is NOT the time to have a meeting with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress.
If you need to meet with a teacher, please set up a different time and place that is convenient to both.
Please respect the teacher’s planning time and other special duties.
Discipline Discipline of all students is to be done by a staff
member. Please do not distribute personal notes, tokens or
prizes without teacher approval. If you are working with a child or a small group
and difficulty arises, let the teacher know immediately.
Remember it is the behavior of the student we disapprove of, not the student.
