Overview
My definition of educational technology
To use computers, the internet, and electronic devices to make learning,
understanding, and communication more:
Easy Quick Interesting
Web sites on ed tech history
Kindergarten technology No computers for students to use. Only the teacher had a computer-email & attendance
Chalkboard was used for majority of lessons
Chart paper was used daily for discussions and lessons
Crayons, markers, water color, paper and pencil and cutting paper
Floppy disks
High school technology Majority of the students had
a cell phone and MP3 player/iPod
Couple of computers in the classroom-one for the teacher and the other(s) for students use.
Computer lab
Overhead projector and chalkboard -> whiteboard to teach lessons
Most final assignments needed to be typed.
Portable hard drive (flash drives)
College technology Majority of students have
laptops and bring to class daily to take notes, write assignments, etc.
Submit assignments & take tests online (Laulima)
Elluminate - Online lectures
Online classes
Communicate through email
PowerPoints, YouTube videos, e-books v.s. textbooks
A vivid technology learning experience
Email: Quick and easy to communicate with people near and afar
Video Conference: Able to hear and see people from another state or even country!
A technology I want to use in my classroom
Computer/Laptop: We can do almost anything on a computer and reach all types of learners (audio, visual, etc.) Make learning more exciting!
My vision of the classroom of the future Each student to have
a laptop with internet at their fingertips (at home AND in the classroom). So much learning can be done in a fun way, if they have the correct knowledge.
A challenge for teaching Budget: budget cuts
are making it very tough
Space: Classrooms are filled with desks, centers, community space, etc.
Getting used to using technology daily instead of constant books and worksheets
