Dear Readers,

The year started off with our company undertaking different activities on a smaller scale.

NBVL Paloncha felicitated the employees who had completed 25 years of service. Our CSR Activities have proceeded very well and we have been able to complete the various programs outlined earlier in the year.

NBVL Paloncha VP, Mr Sreenivasa Murthy has been elected Chairman of the Indian Institute of Metals – Paloncha Chapter. Here’s congratulating him in his new role.

Mr Yashobanata Pattanaik has also been felicitated by the District Magistrate & District Collector for having donated books for the setting up of the knowledge centre at the District Employment Exchange at Dhenkanal.

The Employee Champions have been active with the session on Chair Yoga & Geet Sangeet which was very well appreciated by the employees.

A new Initiative which has been introduced from this year is to recognise and wish employees on

their birthdays and making feel special. This has been carried out across the offices globally.

As we headed into March, there has been a surge in COVID cases which resulted in increasing infections across the country which has taken the infections to new soaring levels and we hope by doing things right, we can come out of this stronger.

I take this opportunity to ask everyone to practice safe hygiene and maintain a social distance at all times.

Stay Healthy. Stay Safe.

Regards,

Rishad John, Editor, Vision Nava Bharat

Seminar on Financial loans being Inaugurated

Orell Digital English language LabLearning English, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, is often a big challenge for many students in India even after they complete their graduation or post-graduation.

Perceiving both the significance of English language and the challenges students face in learning the language. Nava Bharat established a language lab at the institute. The institute procured the language leaning software “Orell digital language Lab” developed by Orell Techno systems (India) PVT LTD, based in Kochi. The software will be used to train tribal and non-tribal students in the district free of cost.

A certain level of proficiency in the English language is essential for graduate to gain employment as well as to excel in their careers in today’s world. In the rural areas, for a large number of students, the medium of instruction continues to be Telugu till high school. They will switch to English at intermediate and graduation level and find it difficult to gain a command over the language. Many times, even academically strong graduates are turned down by companies because of their poor English skills. The Digital language lab was aimed at imparting both oral and written skills to students and improve their chances of landing jobs. Nava Bharat Women Empowerment Centre has been offering a four-month course in DTP &

Tally, accounting software for graduates and post graduates. There are around 60 students for whom classes are being run in two sessions. 30 students in each session in the morning and evening. Besides local instructors of Orell will also be availed online to clarify the doubts brought by the students.

Green Maamba initiative. The programme has seen the country’s largest coal mining company plant hundreds of trees and ensure greening across the district to counter decades of deforestation and environmental neglect that the district had experienced before the mine was privatised and taken over by Nava Bharat Singapore Pte Limited (NBS) in 2010.

“One of our main objectives aside from spearheading social and economic development in Maamba and its surrounding areas is to restore the local environment to its former glory,” said Maamba Development Trust Manager Jethro Sikalunda.

The Trust, which operates under the ethos of … making a difference – to help uplift people’s living standards, is a special purpose vehicle that spearheads all community development projects on behalf of MCL.

“Our goal is to make MCL a leading example of an eco-friendly power plant in Zambia and the sub-region,” Mr Sikalunda said.

“As the country grapples with climate change, and as hydro-electric power plants struggle to meet demand, it is important that we all take a stand and do our part to safeguard our environment.”

“Corporate Social Responsibility at Maamba Collieries is its commitment to its stakeholders to conduct business in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner that is transparent and ethical.”

In a keynote address read on behalf of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Mr Mateyo Kaluba and the Chief Portfolio Officer, Mr Henry Sakala said the event presented not only a platform for corporate entities to receive a pat on the back for their community projects, but also allowed responsible companies from different parts of the country and sectors to come together and learn about each other’s sustainability initiatives.

Mr Kaluba urged the award recipients to stay on their current trajectory and ensure that communities benefit from their presence.

“I implore all corporate firms to continue with the great work in CSR they have exhibited over the past year, even as we all strive to make a positive difference for our communities in the years ahead,” concluded Mr Sakala on behalf of the Group CEO of IDC.
