Ending a Remarkable 2011 with Smooth Sailing

15

With peak performances and record-breaking achievements throughout the year, 2011 has

been an exceptional year for Aerowisata. Topped off with the year-end holiday season, the company will have achieved 20% overhead from the 2011 projection.

Aerowisata is committed to continuously enhance the quality of their product and services. Throughout the Quality Enhancement Year of 2011, most of Aerowisata Hotels and Resorts have been undergoing significant improvements. “In Lombok, we have renovated our rooms and lobby. In Sanur, we completed our services with new open kitchen, and in Bandung, we have renovated our ballrooms, lobby and restaurant with open kitchen”, said Anton Partono, EVP Hotel and Resorts of Aerowisata International.

This year, Aerowisata is also proud to be the first hotel group to receive TUV Eco certification. A recognition to the company’s commitment to preserve the environment, “because we know our customers value this when using our service”, Anton added. From as small as less frequent

linen change, to outsourcing our laundry services, the hotels and resorts are revamping every corner to preserve energy and resources. Using the TUV standard would also mean reduced operational costs through more energy saving infrastructure. Anton believes that the hospitality industry needs to act immediately to tackle the energy issue.

Adjacent to the Quantum Leap long term goal, 2012 is Aerowisata’ s year of market expansion, either domestic or international. The global financial upheavals had been anticipated by shifting targetmarkets from crisis-struck countries to others with better financial sustainability. Indonesia’s domestic market, which has not been greatly affected by the global financial crisis, plays a major role in maintaining the flow of

customers. This applies to both leisure tourists and conferences (MICE) travelers.

Aerowisata will also venture to new boundaries in expanding its market. The Eastern Europe market is one of the most promising, with a constant incline of visitors from that region in the past few years. While strengthening the brand penetration inwards, towards more destinations where Garuda Indonesia flies; like Yogyakarta, Makassar, Magelang, Batam, Belitung, Bogor and Bali.

With a series of transformations undertaken by nearly all their hotels and resorts, Aerowisata is ready to welcome 2012!

TUV Rheinland ‘Eco hotel’ Certification: A Commitment to the Environment

After three decades of excellent service to its guests, we are proud to announce that Aerowisata Hotels

& Resorts is the first hotel group to be certified as ‘Eco Hotel’ by TUV Rheinland Germany, a reputable independent testing and assessment services.

Aerowisata’s Hotels & Resorts has become well-known as an ideal combination of modern hotel facilities

and charming local atmosphere. The certification is awarded in recognition of the hotel chain’s commitment to improve all aspects of its’ waste management, water & electricity conservation and better environmental practices. All of the practices have been formulated to minimize the impact on the environment to achieve maximum environmental sustainability.

TUV Rheinland ECO certification audited 5 Hotels within the Aerowisata’s portfolio which includes Aerowisata Sanur Beach Hotel & Pool Villa Club, Bali; Aerowisata Senggigi Beach Hotel & Pool Villa Club, Lombok; Aerowisata Grand Hotel Preanger, Bandung; Labersa Grand Hotel & Convention Center, Pekanbaru; and Aerotel Irian Biak, Papua. We believe by managing our hotels in an environmentally friendly manner, we would contribute to the natural sustainability of the local ecology.

The final audit concluded that these hotels have met the criteria and requirements that have been conditioned by the assessment company. This certification will cover implementation of energy efficiency, water consumption, waste management practice, handlings of chemical and hazardous substances, and also aspect of health and safety in the hotel. Aerowisata hotels & resorts focuses to implement this commitment by conducting a constant series of training towards all hotel staff as well as to encourage hotel guests to support the program of ‘Eco Hotel’ for the sustainability of Indonesia’s environment. By implementing this Eco-Hotel Management System standard, the hotels are expected to improve its operational efficiency and its environmental performance, and to contribute by giving added value to its surrounding community.

Aerowisata Hotels and Resorts

is now positioned as one of the top tier hotel chain in Indonesia.  Until the end of 2011, Aerowisata has managed and own 13 hotels throughout Indonesia. In 2012, Aerowisata will aim

to increase this number to 20, including Aerotel Smile Makassar, Grand Artos Aerowisata Hotel and Convention Magelang, Aerotel Malioboro Yogyakarta, Aerotel Selesa Batam, Aerowisata Garden Hotel & Convention Center Jagorawi and several more in progress. “Ultimately, we plan to have about 50 hotels by 2015. That’s our goal,” said Satria Pringgodani, Director of Aero Hotel Management. This year, Aerowisata still focus on profitable growth, modernizing its product and service with facilities upgrade, business transformation, and also high performance organization.  “We are strengthening our brand, because we try to expand our market towards stronger segment”, Satria said. One of the key strategy in this, Satria add,  is Aerowisata’s e-commerce strategy. In which personalized e-strategy are aimed at different markets. For example, Aerowisata’s Japanese website for Japanese speaking customers which provides information to reservation services for Japanese speaking customers. As sometimes, language barrier is one of

Seizing New Opportunities in 2012the strong points in getting the attention of a certain market. We cater and personalize our services for every international market, because every nationality has its own particularities in dealing with their leisure management.

Another way is to open more channels towards online travel stores, such as Agoda, Expedia, and other international travel portals. This will favorably sharpen Aerowisata’s penetration on broader

International market. Physical renovations is also our key strategy in continuously upgrading our own benchmark. “The future will gravitate towards e-hotel, and that is where we are going as well. This is something we can’t avoid”, Satria explained. E-Hotel, is an integrated hotel system where its service will be fully interconnected and guests will have a full access to the hotel’s service information. On-demand TV, internet, and other en suite entertainment system will all be just a click away.  Aerowisata realizes its advantage from its competition, that under Garuda Indonesia group, Aerowisata is a part of the most integrated travel service in Indonesia. Not only hotel management, Aerowisata is backed up with an airline, transport services, catering services, and also, most importantly, Aero Travel and Garuda Orient Holidays. “We bring visitors from around the world with this integrated network of ours. It’s a complete package,” Satria concluded.

This December, PT Aerowisata marks a one year service of Kawanua Aerotel Jakarta, with the

handover of the first Regional own source Revenue to North Sulawesi Provincial Government, as the owner of Kawanua Aerotel Jakarta.

In his speech, DR. Sarundajang expresses his contentment with how well the hotel turned out to be,” I was even got turned down once to stay here, this hotel is always fully booked now. Which is really good”, He said.

President Director of Aerowisata, Alex M.T. Maneklaran, said that for a hotel that just operated for one

year, the hotel is doing excellent indeed, “Average occupancy reaches 70 % throughout the year; this is an achievement we should be proud of.” He adds that with this rate of growth, there’s a good chance the hotel could ascend to 5 stars in the near future.

Located in Jl. Cempaka Putih Raya No. 120, Central Jakarta, this 3 star hotel is an excellent choice for business travelers, mainly corporate and government guests within the Central Jakarta vicinity. With its 9 meeting and conference rooms that could accommodate up to 500 people, completed with free wifi connections, this hotel definitely means business.

Initially established as the liaison office of the North Sulawesi Regional Province, the strategically located building was then transformed to an international standard hotel designed with a modern minimalistic architecture, catering to all type of guests, from business travelers to leisure.

Kawanua Aerotel Jakarta offers 79 standard, deluxe and suite rooms. Each equipped with AC, LCD TV, safe-deposit box, water heater, and IDD Telephones. Other facilities include Lobby Lounge, Nyiur Melambai Restaurant & Bar, Business Centre, BPD Sulut Bank, Aero Travel Service, Karaoke Rooms, and also Fitness & Spa.

The “Quantum Leap” program calls for the fleet to grow from the existing 89 aircraft to 154 aircraft by the year 2015. The new additions will consist of B737-800NG for domestic and regional services,

A330-300/200 for middle and medium ranges and B777-300ER for long haul flights. The age of the air-craft will be an average 5 years old.

In line with its operation of the B737-800NG type in its fleet, Garuda Indonesia has also sealed a 15 years contract with CFM International for the maintenance of the Boeing 737-800NG engines. The cooperation will undoubtedly enhance Indonesia’s airline industry and boost air transportation growth in the country.

Maany would agree that today, a glass of wine is not a mere glass of drink. Every glass of fine wine tells a story of how it’s made, where it’s made, and how far it

has been preserved; every sip reveals a geographical background, and sometimes even its cultural history. Clearly, enjoying wine is not an Indonesian culture. Yet over the last few years more and more people are starting to feel intrigued by the enchanting world of the ‘drink of the gods’. While in the past drinking wine was

The Art of Wine, Passion for Perfection

associated with older people, now many younger people have become addicted to it. They spend their nights after work meeting friends and relaxing at dozens or maybe hundreds of bars and restaurants in the country’s cities, which offer various selections of wine.

Apart from wine-specializing establishments, many five-star hotels also have set up their own wine, and sometimes, cigar bars, in addition to providing wine in their restaurants and coffee shops. In Bandung’s Grand Hotel Preanger, wine aficionados can delight in the Hotel’s wine selection in their Lounge & Wine Corner. Have a sip of wines from, France, Australia, Chile, California and Italy; Perfect for a relaxed chat with friends or a pleasant entertainment.

While in Bali, the popularity of the drink has gone much further, marked with the emergence of local wineries that have gained attention from local and international wine enthusiasts. Get to know the rich culture behind each bottle. In Aerowisata Sanur Beach Hotel, the Basilico Italian Pavilion offers a wide selection of local and international wine brands where you can also enjoy the best of liquors while enjoying a delectable Italian cuisine.

Aerowisata Hotels and Resorts have been recently certified as Eco-Hotel, which means the hotels and resorts apply fewer linen change, better waste management, and replacing energy wasting

equipments with newer, more energy-efficient equipments in for the hotel. Yet, these advances would not be complete without guests’ full cooperation in preserving the energy, and create an eco-friendly leisure environment. Here are some tips and tricks for being a little friendlier to Mother Earth during your next trip:

Responsible Travel Tips : It’s Easy Going Green!

Participate in hotel linen programs, or let the hotel know that it’s not necessary to change your sheets and towels every day. Most hotels these days have ways to let their guests tell the housekeeper know this.

Don’t waste soap. If you choose to open a bar of soap during your stay, open only one and transfer it between the shower and the sink.

Open only the toiletries you plan to use. Leave little bottles of amenities in the guestroom if unopened.

Be sure to turn off exercise equipment, sauna, whirlpool, Jacuzzi or tennis court lights when you’re through.

When you leave the room unplug and turn everything off. That means lights, TV, chargers, AC, and any elec-trical equipments that might consume energy, even when they turned off.

Do not buy any animal products while travelling. Do not remove any objects, plants or animal products from nature.

Not only can these affect fragile ecosystems, but is also illegal.

Encourage practices to conserve the environment, including the use of renewable resources in a sustainable manner and the conservation of non-renewable resources.

Serenity, tranquility, and

immaculate beauty are the essence of Belitung Island.

The islands of Pulau Bangka and Pulau Belitung, together with 254 other

small surrounding islands make up the province of Bangka-Belitung. The archipelago

is famous for the quality of its crystal clear waters and 1,200 kilometers of unspoiled sandy beaches.

Historically well known as Indonesia’s major pepper and tin Mining Island, Belitung now unfolds a new gem thriving to be discovered. Adorned with its small tropical island with warm and pristine blue sea, unspoiled white sandy beach, and diverse unique shapes of granite stones, Belitung has lured many tourists from all over the world to explore its heritage and its eye-soothing scenery.

Located on the east coast of Sumatera between the South China and Java Sea,The island has received unprecedented

exposure through its prominent exposure in

the critically acclaimed and commercially successful famous

movie, Laskar Pelangi. The movie is adapted from a same title novel by

Belitung native son, Andrea Hirata. It tells childhood adventures of ten Belitung local children, deemed the Laskar Pelangi or ‘rainbow troops’, through-out their scenic home-island of Belitung.

In Belitung Island, you can’t miss Tanjung Kelayang Beach, a postcard scenery material with its crystal clear waters, white beaches and huge granite rocks in the background. Tanjung Kelayang is located about 25 km north of Tanjun Pandan, on the Northern coast of Pulau Belitung. Belitung is also a paradise for diving, snorkeling in its stunning underwater scenery. Belitung has not yet a hefty amount of supporting diving operators to facilitate diving enthusiasts, but due to the high demand, local independent operators are now starting to emerge.

From Tanjung Kelayang Beach, you can anchor off and tour neighbouring islands like Kepayang Island, Batu Berlayar Island, Babi Island and Tukong Kelayang with local fisherman boats. These islands are each unique with its own picturesque sites and mostly can be reached in between 15 to 30 minutes. In Batu Berlayar Island, witness the twilight sand submerge during high tide and watch the picturesque sunset with granite giant rock background.

Just as exciting is a tour around Lengkuas Island, a small island north of Tanjung Binga village not more than 1

hectare in total. Just like other beaches in Belitung islands, Pulau lengkuas has the

ever-present white sand, clear blue water, and magnificent granite boulders. Except this island has a unique attraction of its own. Lengkuas Island is a home of an active and well-preserved 129 years-Old Dutch Lighthouse, one of many traces of the Dutch’s presence throughout Bangka and Belitung. Visitors can climb up the top of this 50 meters high lighthouse and enjoy the stunning 360 degree view of the surrounding islands.

For the cultural travel enthusiasts, Belitung has a number of exciting historic and cultural spots to visit. Immerse in local history in a museum built within an old Chinese mansion on Jalan Melati. This museum displays the remnants of the once-dominant tin mining industry of Bangka and Belitung. A beautiful Chinese temple near Burung Mandi Beach signifies the historic presence of the large Chinese community in Belitung. In the late 19th century, many Chinese descents moved to the island to work in the tin mines along with locals. This also shows one of the key characteristic of Belitung people, which are well-known for their religious and ethnic harmony.

Whatever it is your traveling preference; there is an endless selection of activities you can do in this beautiful island. A calm and relaxed getaway, a weekend of fun activity with your family, or for underwater sport lovers, Belitung is just waiting to be explored!

Seasons Greeting 2012

Carrying our wishes for a future filled with happiness

In his 76 years old of age, Harangan Wilmar Hutahaean doesn’t show signs of slowing down. Opung, how he

likes to be called, has been in the same schedule for tens of years. He would already be in his office at 7.00 every morning, to run one of the most succesful company in Pekanbaru, and would still engage in many social activities. He still plays golf every Saturday, and is even actively involved in the Senior Golfer Community (PERPESI) that holds events in Indonesia and sometimes abroad.

Opung started his carreer as a humble school teacher in Riau, back in 1955. After just a few years working in Caltex, he established PT. Hutahaean in 1959, a contractor for Caltex and which later, becomes one of the most succesful companies in Riau.

By 2002, PT. Hutahaean expanded to more than 7.700 hectare of Palm Plantations in District Rokan Hulu. Later in 2004, PT. Hutahaean further extended its business to Golf Course & Country Club, Waterpark & Themepark, an International Hotel and Property.

Opung believes that behind every success story, there would

H.W Hutahaean: The Entrepreneur Man with Strong Family Wise Touch

initially be failures after failures. “A lot of people think too much in planning things, and they end up not doing it. Action, is the key,” Opung said.

As a true entrepreneur, Opung also never quits venturing new opportunities. As the case when he was offered a land in Pekanbaru vicinity which no investors were interested in that time. He in the other hand, driven by his passion

for golf, saw great po-tential in this piece of land. “This land looked like it would be a great golf course, it had great ground contour”, he reminisced.

In 2003, the company acquired the land and built 27 Holes Golf Course & Country Club. They even brought the renowned golf course designer, Edwin Palmer, to make Opung’s dream golf course come true. From there, devel-opment went full throttle towards an integrated leisure area. From five star hotel with supporting MICE facilities that would cater up to 5.000 people, to Waterpark & Themepark. In 2012, the area would be completed with a property and shopping centre as well.

Since its development, there has also been a rapid development of housing around the Labersa vicinity. These projects have absorbed more than 1000 people since it first started. Opung sees this as one of his pride and joy, where he can contibute to the comunity by creating job opportunities.

Opung treats his company as one giant family. Where every single person is expected to respect eachother like family, as equal, with their own function and strengths. That is what he thinks as one of the key to the success of his business empire.

As a matter of fact, this father of 8 and grandfather of 24 sees his family as an integral part of his success. He felt he would not have achieved all he has achieved now, without his wife’s constant support. “In my 52 years of marriage, i never leave my family for business trips. They are my source of happiness.”
