VLE Development Work PlacementBy Timothy Bryan
The Placement To assess, upgrade, improve and utilise
the current Moodle site for Stockport College.
To work alongside Sarah Donohoe (ELearning Coordinator) part time over a 6-8 week period, assisting with the above, and liaise with Mike Smith (IT Specialist) to help achieve this.
What is a VLE? A VLE is a “Virtual Learning
Environment”. Most educational institutes use them
to :1. Source classroom materials.
2. Provide a place to upload work.3. Provide extra/out of class activities.
Most VLE’s are based on the Moodle platform.
The Original Moodle Site
The VLE - Skoodle Colourful! Uses logo’s for
course areas. “Nav Bar” No more infinite
lists/scrolling!

New Functions & Services GSB Blocks Drag and Drop Moodle App Search+ Messaging Tab Display for courses and information.
Extra/Optional Tasks Provide training to staff on how to use
Skoodle. Extra research and study into PHP and
JavaScript. Many hours researching Moodle,
participating on Moodle forums and researching features.
Research on servers and FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
What do the users think?Tutors like: The new look and feel. The working drag and
drop. The new features
implemented in the updates with the training on how to use them(ongoing).
Having someone on hand to solve any issues.
Students like: The ease of navigating
course pages. The new look and feel. The touchscreen
accessibility of the site on mobile devices.
Search+ Easy access to student
email.
