EXCURSION REPORT- LIFESKILLS RESOURCE ROOM

The Life skills Resource Room visited SRK farm in Ponda on the 7th of February 2020. The students were accompanied by their teachers by bus while the parents followed by cars.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff of SRK. It is a place full of fun activities like zip liner, boating, play park, big swimming pools with slides. There was a pond of coloured fish and turtles.

We settled at a cool place, played a game of football after forming two teams of parents, children and teachers. Parents as well as students were very excited and played enthusiastically. We played another game with funny forfeits for all parents as well as children.

After games, we shared snacks and juice brought by parents and teachers. Soon after the kids changed to get into the pool as it was already getting warm. The younger ones went into the baby pool as it was safe while the bigger boys swam in the bigger pool and played with the ball.

After having fun in the water, the children were served a buffet of typical Goan food with fish curry, rice, kismur and Xacuti followed by ice cream. The student presented a thank you card to the owner of the resort/ farm (SRK) for the generosity and hospitality and not forgetting, exempting the entry fee and food on the house for the kids. The students sat in the bus, sang to their favourite songs and enjoyed on their way back.

It was a fun filled day spent together with lots of fun, sharing, and happy memories.

INTERSCHOOL COMPETITION – UDAAN 2.0

Little’s school on completing 20 years organized an interschool competition Udaan 2 for students of classes 2 to 4.

The competition was held on 3rd February 2020, at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Thirteen schools from all over Goa participated in this event and Vidya Vikas Academy was one of them.

The purpose of this event was to promote the spirit of participation, bring out the best in every child by giving them an experience of representing our school at an inter-school level and thus boosting their talents and skills through greater exposure.

The different competitions held were:

1) Dance competition (Theme: Colours of India) for students of Class 2

2) Patriotic Singing for students of class 3

3) Elocution for students of class 4.

A total of 26 students participated from our school. The students were trained by Sir Manju and Tr. Sunita for the dance, Sir Saturnino for singing and Tr. Michelle for the elocution competition.

Out of 13 schools Vidya Vikas Academy won the 3rd place for the Dance competition. The winners were awarded medals and certificates, while the participants of the singing and elocution competition were awarded participation certificates.

SPREADING THE AWARENESS FOR CORNEA EYE DONATION BY GIFT YOUR EYES (TRUST)

The above awareness campaign was held on 12th February, 2020 for students of classes 7 to 9.

The resource person was Mr. Trevor Braganza, (President of Gift Your Eyes), and his team.

The objective was to sensitize the students that the key to eradicate Cornea Eye blindness in India and around the world in the near future was Awareness and the youth of today were the best ambassadors to achieve this target.

The students were shown a 5 minutes presentation explaining the facts and myths of Cornea Eye donation. This was followed by an interactive session of 15 minutes. To conclude the session, a video was shown to the students of a song composed for this awareness, which featured one of our student Ms. Anaaya Gonsalves.

All students were given an Eye donation form and an entry pass to Froggy Land.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY – SPECIAL PROGRAMME

A Special programme was conducted on the 28th of February 2020 to celebrate National Science day. The students of class 9C under the guidance of Tr. Vichye Vaz put up a very informative assembly to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by C V Raman on this day.

The importance of this day was explained to the students with the help of a power point presentation. The students were given information about some eminent scientists and their contributions in the world of science. Four students of class 5 acted as renowned scientists enlightening us with their lives and hardships faced by them.

A video showing the important inventions of all times was shown to the students. The theme for National Science day 2020 is “Women in Science” and a video showing prominent women scientists were highlighted. The programme concluded with a video showing the latest inventions of 2019 and motivational quotes which would encourage students to develop a scientific temper.

Previously concluded activities to highlight the day were as follows:

A science quiz was conducted by Tr. Afshan for students of classes 6,7 and 8 to test their scientific knowledge.

Tr. Vichye gave the students of class 9, a talk on the deadly corona virus, its harmful effects, mode of infection and preventive measures to make them aware of this fast spreading infection.

Through an extempore conducted in class, the students were given an opportunity to express their views on their favourite scientist.

PRE-PRIMARY NO SCHOOL BAG DAY – FEBRUARY

No school bag day was held for the Pre-Primary pupils on 25th February 2020.

The Theme was ‘Carnival’. The children wore colourful clothes and accessories related to the theme.

The teacher spoke about the significance of carnival celebration. The students of Senior Kg. C performed an act and a dance.

SOLO SINGING – ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH

A Solo Singing Activity was conducted for classes 1-5 as the co-curricular activity for the month of February. The students were given an opportunity to select a song of their choice in any language.

The main objective for the activity was to showcase their talent. The students enjoyed singing to their favourite tunes. They were judged on various criteria like pitch, rhythm and melody.

The manner in which the students presented different songs was admirable and laudable.

NO SCHOOL BAG DAY – FEBRUARY

“Adding fun with learning creates the best educational experience possible”

‘No School Bag Day’ was conducted at Vidya Vikas Academy for the students of classes 1 – 5 on 28th February 2020.’

The theme for this day was ‘Polka Fiesta.’ Students came dressed in polka dots/coloured attire. All activities conducted were a fusion of polka dots and carnival theme. The activities included art and craft work like making carnival masks and hats, slippers decoration, polka hearts, paper roll craft, dot paintings, worksheets (polka & carnival), videos, etc.

A mock test was also conducted to prepare the students for the Achiever’s Exam that will be held in the month of March 2020.

It was an amazing learning experience and a fun filled day for the students. All students had a great time.

MYTHOLOGICAL SKITS

“Mythology is a subjective truth. Every culture imagines life a certain way.” – Devdutt Pattanaik

Students of classes 6th – 9th were asked to present a skit on any mythology as the activity of the month. The number of participants in a group was flexible. The students had to present the act for 5 minutes in any language (Hindi/ English/ Konkani). The students participated with full enthusiasm. It was a display of creativity and amazing acting skills. They were judged on the content, confidence, body language & audience impact. The best performing group was rewarded with certificates.

SENIOR SECONDARY SECTION February 17, 2020

LASER CUTTING WORKSHOP

A laser cutting workshop was organised for the students of class 11, on 8th February 2020. The workshop was held at the Prototyping Lab of Goa State Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, Fatorda. The objective of the workshop was to encourage creativity and to equip students with project-based learning skills in the latest technologies.

Mr. Gaurish Samant, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering of Don Bosco College of Engineering conducted a session where he explained the working and importance of a Laser cutting machine. He also taught the students how to design a file for laser cutting. Further Mr. Diptesh Naik demonstrated the working and functioning of a laser cutting machine. Students got an opportunity to design their own keychains. They also used the laser cutting machine to develop the key chain.

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL CHEMISTRY QUIZ – ANCQ – 2019

The Royal Australian Chemical Institute in association with Chemistry Teachers-Goa organised the international ‘Australian National Chemistry Quiz’ (ANCQ) 2019 as a celebration of 150 years of Mendeleev’s periodic table for all the Higher Secondary Schools across Goa on 22th August 2019. The aim of the quiz was to increase the observational skills and improve the problem solving ability of the students. It aimed to do away with the perception that science involves rote learning based subjects. Around 16 students from Vidya Vikas Senior Secondary Section participated in the same.

An in-depth report with statistical treatment consisting of valuable feedback of the student’s performance was provided to each participating school. The results of the quiz were declared on February 12, 2020.
