1.0 SCOPE

This SCECO-East Material Standard Specification (SMSS) specifies the minimumtechnical requirements for design, engineering, manufacture, inspection, testing andperformance of Vitreous China Plumbing Fixtures intended to be used in the system ofSaudi Consolidated Electric Company in the Eastern Province (SCECO-East), SaudiArabia.

2.0 CROSS-REFERENCES

This Material Standard Specification shall be read in conjunction with the latest revisionof SCECO-East General Specification No. 01-SMSS-01, titled “General Requirementfor All Equipment/Materials”, which shall be considered as an integral part of this SMSS.

This SMSS shall also be read in conjunction with SCECO-East Purchase Order orContract Schedules for the project, as applicable.

3.0 APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The latest revisions/amendments of the following Codes and Standards shall beapplicable for the equipment/material covered in this SMSS. In case of conflict, thevendor/manufacturer may propose equipment/material conforming to one group ofIndustry Codes and Standards quoted hereunder without jeopardizing the requirements ofthis SMSS.

4.0 CONSUMPTION CLASSIFICATIONS

Plumbing fixtures shall be designed and manufactured based on the followingconsumption classifications:

4.1 Low-Consumption Water Closets: Average water consumption (total flushvolume) shall be less than or equal to 6 liters over the range of test pressuresspecified in para. 7.1.6.1 of ANSI/ASME A112.19.6 and not exceeding 7.6 litersat any one test pressure (based on average values from three-run test sets).

4.2 Low-Consumption Urinals: Average water consumption (total flush volume) shallbe less than or equal to 3.8 liters over the range of test pressures specified in para.8.5.1 of ANSI/ASME A112.19.6.

5.0 MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURE

5.1 All plumbing fixtures specified herein shall be manufactured from vitreous chinaand shall meet the absorption and crazing tests as specified in para. 9.1.1 and9.1.2.

6.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

6.1 Thickness: Vitreous china shall not be less than 6mm thick at any point..

6.2 Finish: The glaze shall be thoroughly fused to the fixture body.

6.3 Dimensions and Tolerances: Fixtures shall conform to the applicable dimensionsand tolerances given or as shown herein. Unless otherwise indicated, a toleranceof ± 5% shall apply.

6.4 Hydraulic Performance: Water closets and urinals shall conform to the hydraulicperformance requirements of ANSI/ASME A112.19.6.

6.5 Integral Traps: The depth of seal of integral traps in all fixtures shall be not lessthan 50mm.

6.6 Water Closets: A water closet bowl shall have a minimum water surface area of279 x 229 mm except where greater water surfaces or larger diameter ball sizesare specified for certain fixtures in para. 8.1.2.

6.7 Lavatories

6.7.1 Overflows: Lavatory overflows shall have either a minimum cross-sectional area not less than 725.80 mm2 at every point in a passagewayor shall have a minimum flow capacity of 0.1577 l/s when tested inaccordance with para. 9.1.6.

The location of overflow shall be per para. 8.2.1. The flood level of theslab shall be not more than 13mm above the slab surface at the lowestpoint of the faucet bearings.

6.7.2 Punchings: Lavatory supply and outlet punchings shall comply withFig. 11.

6.8 Urinals: Urinals shall have a trapway which shall pass a 19mm minimumdiameter ball except where larger diameters are specified. See para. 8.3.2.

6.9 Flushing Devices:

6.9.1 The flushing device, when specified, shall either be gravity flush tank orflushometer valve.

6.9.2 All flushing devices shall deliver water at sufficient volume and velocityto permit the water closet bowl or urinal to meet the performancerequirement of ANSI/ASME A112.19.6. Such devices shall insureproper backflow protection consistent with the industry standards.

6.9.3 Air gaps, vacuum breakers and other backflow preventers shall beinstalled above the flood level of the fixture or device, or positive spillopenings to the outside of the flush tank shall be provided to maintainthe required clearances for backflow prevention.

6.9.4 Gravity flush tank shall have an anti-siphon fill valve complying withANSI/ASSE 1002 and shall have provision for overflow. The criticallevel mark on the fill valve shall be a minimum of 25mm aboveoverflow in the tank. Water closet tank punching details are shown inFig. 5.

6.9.5 Flushometer valve shall be in conformance with ASSE 1037.

6.10 Flushing Actions: Water closets or urinals shall be designed based on thefollowing applications:

6.11 Fixture Supports: Off-the-floor (wall-hung) fixture supports (carrier) conformingwith ANSI/ASME A112.6.1M shall be furnished on wall-hung plumbing fixtures.

6.12 Water Pressure: For safe and efficient operation, it is recommended that staticpressures at plumbing fixtures be not less than 138 kPa but not more than 552kPa, except as required for the following:

6.12.1 Siphonic-Type Flushometer Valve-Activated Closets - 173 kPaminimum

6.12.2 Blowout-Type Flushometer Valve-Activated Closets - 242 kPaminimum

6.12.3 Siphon Vortex Closets - 207 kPa minimum or follow manufacturer’srecommendation.

6.13. Trims: Trims for water closet bowls, tanks and urinals shall be in accordance withANSI A112.19.5.

7.0 WORKMANSHIP, FINISH AND APPEARANCE

7.1 All fixtures shall be graded as “first quality fixtures” in full conformity withANSI/ASME A112.19.2M, free from blemishes and defects to the extentspecified in Tables 1, 2 or 3 as applicable.

7.2 All fixtures shall be of durable construction, scratch-proof and abrasion resistant.

7.3 All fixture exposed surfaces shall be glazed, except those coming into contactwith walls and floors, and those portions located which are not visible when thefixture is installed in a normal manner.

7.4 Vitreous china plumbing fixtures shall be made in white color, unless otherwisespecified.

8.0 FIXTURE TERMINOLOGY

Below information is only to describe the following fixtures and shall not preclude otherstyles and types which satisfy all the requirements of this specification.

8.1 Water Closets:

8.1.1 Styles

a. One-Piece Water Closet: Single-piece water closet bowl andgravity flush tank. See Fig. 1.

i. Mounting/Outlet - Floor-mounted, floor-outlet (SeeFig. 7A)

ii. Flushing Action - Siphon vortex

b. Close-Coupled Water Closet: Water closet bowl with separategravity flush tank secured to and supported by water closet bowl,and with separate tank cover. See Fig. 2.

i. Mounting/Outlet - Floor-mounted, floor-outlet(See Fig. 7A)

ii. Flushing Action - Siphon-jet

c. Flushometer Valve Water Closet: Water closet bowl designed foruse with flushometer valve. See Fig. 3A and 3B.

i. Mounting/Outlet - Wall-mounted, wall-outlet(See Fig. 7B)

ii. Flushing Action - Siphon-jet or blowout

8.1.2 Bowl Types: Except where greater water surfaces or larger diameter ballsizes are specified, the following minimum dimensions shall be applied:

a. Siphon Vortex Water Closet: Shall have trapway at the rear of thebowl, and integral flushing rim with or without a jet which doesnot feed directly into the trap. See Fig. 1

i. Water Surface - 279 x 229 mm.ii. Ball Pass Diameter - 50 mm.

b. Siphon-Jet Water Closet: Shall have a siphonic trapway at therear of the bowl, and integral flushing rim and jet. See Fig. 2 and3A.


c. Blowout Water Closet: Shall have a trapway at the rear of thebowl, and integral flushing rim and jet, with mounting bolts perFig. 6(B), and which is operated by flushometer valve. See Fig.3B.

8.1.3 Bowl Height: The bowl height shall be 356mm to 381mm from thefinished floor line to the top of the rim.

8.1.4 Top Contour: Water closet bowls shall have elongated rim top contours.The top contour in Fig. 4 is suggested.

8.1.5 Insulated Tanks: Units shall comply with the performance requirementwhen tested in accordance with para 9.1.5.

8.1.6 Spud Sizes: 38mm inlet top spud shall be provided for water closetbowls operated by flushometer valves.

8.1.7 Seats: ANSI Z124.5

a. For siphon jet and blowout water closet bowls, seats shall be heavyduty solid white plastic, elongated, open front, extended back,stainless hinge posts with combination self-sustaining andconcealed check, without cover.

b. For siphon vortex water closet bowls, same as above except closedfront seat with cover.

8.2 Lavatories:

8.2.1 Types

a. Pedestal Lavatory: Faucet holes on 203mm centers, rear overflow,faucet ledge, pedestal anchoring screw holes, slots for anchorbolts. See Fig. 8.

b. Countertop Lavatory: Faucet holes on 102mm centers, self-rimming , front overflow, faucet ledge and with template. See Fig.9.

c. Wall-Hung Lavatory: Faucet holes on 102mm centers, rearoverflow, self-draining deck area with contoured back and sidesplash shields, faucet ledge, soap depression, anchor screw holes,slots for anchor bolts or access holes for concealed arms support.See Fig. 10.

8.3 Urinals:

8.3.1 Types

a. Wall-Hung Siphon-Jet Urinal With Extended Shields: Shall haveintegral flush spreader, top inlet, siphon trapway with jet andextended shields, all molded in the ware. Use for light trafficinstallations. See Fig. 12.

b. Wall-Hung Siphon-Jet Urinal: Similar with para. 8.3.1(a) except ithas no extended shields. See Fig. 13.

c. Blowout Urinal With Extended Shields: Shall have integral flushspreader, top inlet, jet, open trapway and extended shields, allmolded in the ware. Use for heavy traffic installations. SeeFig.14.

8.3.3 Urinal Sizes: Typical minimum urinal dimensions are shown in Fig. 15.

9.0 TESTING

9.1 Method of Tests shall be in accordance with ANSI/ASME A112.19.2M and inany case, test certificate may be required by SCECO-East for confirmation. Testshall be made for the following:

10.0 PRODUCT MARKING

10.1 Permanent Marking: Each fixture shall be marked with the manufacturer’s nameor registered trademark. This mark shall be legible, readily identified and appliedso as to be permanent. The mark shall be located so as to be visible after thefixture is installed, except for fixtures built into or for a counter or cabinet.

10.2 Compliance With Standard: Each fixture shall be marked by the manufacturerwith the designation ANSI/ASME A112.19.2M to signify compliance with thisstandard. This mark need not be permanent, but shall be visible after installation.

10.3 Other Markings:

10.3.1 Water Closets

a. Permanent Marking: Tanks and bowls, when sold as acombination, shall be permanently marked both on the bowl andtank with manufacturer’s name or trademark.

b. Compliance With Standard: Marking shall be per para. 10.2.

c. Water Consumption: Both product and box shall be labeled inaccordance with its consumption classification and average waterconsumption in liters for that classification. The fixture label shallbe intended for removal by SCECO-East representative only, andso state on the label.

d. Model Numbers: At manufacturer’s option, water closets shall bepermitted to be marked with model numbers.

10.3.2 Urinals

a. Permanent Marking: Marking shall be as per para. 10.1.


c. Water Consumption: Similar with para. 10.3.1(c).

10.3.3 Lavatories

a. Permanent Marking: In case of pedestal lavatories, the lavatoryshall be required to be marked per para. 10.1.
