WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will take to the road for their lone contest this week, traveling to Youngstown State for a 7:05 p.m. matchup on Thursday, February 21. Entering the week CSU stands at 12-13 overall and 4-8 in Horizon League play. Cleveland State went 1-2 last week, defeating UIC (75-69) at home before falling to Green Bay (88-51) and Milwau-kee (73-72) on the road. Monday’s victory against the Flames marked head coach Kate Peterson Abiad’s 130th victory during her tenure at CSU, while Shalonda Winton notched 1,000 career rebound with a nine-board performance against UIC. Winton became just the second Viking to reach the milestone and enters the YSU contest with 1,024 career rebounds - just seven boards shy of becoming the all-time leader at Cleveland State. Entering thefinal stretchof the regular season,Wintonleads the league averaging 22.6 points per contest and ranks second with 10.5 rebounds per game. Cori Coleman ranks 12th in scoring (12.8 ppg).

MEN’S GOLF Cleveland State opened its spring season by going 1-2 at The Match Play at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla. The Vikings fell to DePaul, 4-3, before defeating Seton Hall, 7-0, on day one and lost to Marquette, 5-2, on the final day. Brendan Byrne, Andrew Bailey and Michael Bishop earned two wins on day one, while Michael Balcar and Jon Riemer won against Marquette. The Vikings are out of action until March 11-12 when CSU competes in the Don Benbow Invitational.

WOMEN’S TENNIS For the first time this season the Vikings will play at home this weekend, hosting Ball State and Oakland on Sunday, February 24. CSU will face Ball State at 11:00 a.m. and will then face Oakland at 3:00 p.m. at Paramount Tennis Club. Last time out the Vikings dropped a 6-1 decision at Xavier, with Nicole Janek picking up the lone victory at No. 5 singles. Janek’s victory marked the 56th of her career, and she is now one win shy of moving into fifth place on the singles wins list at Cleveland State.

WRESTLING CSU returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 24) when the Vikings host a quad with Ohio, Gardner-Webb and Illinois in Woodling Gym. Matches are at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. CSU dropped a pair of matches two weeksago, falling at Kent State (31-10) and to Clarion (23-9). Nick Flannery picked up two wins at 141 pounds, earning a 14-4 triumph at Kent State and a 6-3 win ver-sus Clarion to improve to 7-2 in duals this season and 10-10 overall.

MEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings close out their regular season home slate on Wednesday (Feb. 20) when CSU hosts Wright State at 7:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day with Tim Kam-czyc being honored in a pre-game ceremony. CSU then heads to Western Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 23) for a BracketBuster game at 8:00 p.m. CSU is 13-15 overall and 5-9 in the Horizon League after falling to Green Bay (66-59) and defeating Milwau-kee (88-67) last week. Charlie Lee averaged 19.0 points in the two games.

MEN’S TENNIS CSU remains at home this weekend, hosting St. Bonaventure at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Paramount Tennis Club. Last week the Vikings hosted Buffalo at the Cha-grin Valley Athletic Club, breaking their program at-tendance record with 218 fans. Despite the great crowd support, CSU dropped a tough contest to the Bulls, coming up short in a 4-3 decision. CSU’s three points against Buffalo came from sin-gles wins by Jorg van der Vloet (No. 1), Nolan Marks (No. 5) and Niklas Jonsson (No. 6).

SOFTBALL CSU is out of action until the first weekend of March when the Vikings travel to the Evansville Invita-tional for four games (March 2-3). The Vikings won three of four games over the weekend at the CSU Dome Invitational, improving to 3-6 this season. Susan Knight went 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA and three complete games, while Dara Toman hit .545 (6-11) with three doubles, a homer and three RBI. Alyson Broschk hit .462 and drove in four runs.

laSt WeekKnight helped the Vikings to three wins in four games over the weekend at the CSU Dome Tournament, winning three games in the circle. She fired three complete games, including a two-hit, seven strikeout perfor-mance in CSU’s first game, a 3-0 shutout of Bucknell. She also fired a six-hitter in a win over Canisius and went eight innings, giving up two runs (one earned) in a victory over Bucknell.
