Structure• Main theme: Expressing Yourself (individuality, be yourself)• Two different sections of the video = Narrative and

Performance• Narrative: Artist mentors a young person who wants to become

a superhero but is too embarrassed. Teaches him how to express himself, and stand up to those who are bullying him.• Performance: No strong narrative, but actor performs in a

quirky/unique way to emphasise the ‘express yourself’ theme.• Mise-en-scene follows a comic book/pop-art style by including

bright colours etc. to make the video more dynamic and lively and to link with the superhero-origin narrative.

Performance Scenes

Location• I am filming my video in the school's photography studio,

allowing me to film some high quality close ups of the artist. Furthermore, the white backdrop will be easy to manipulate during the editing stage. • During the performance scenes, I would like to use lighting gels

to add colour to the video, making it seem more vibrant and dynamic. Additionally, it will add energy to the video without distracting the audience, as it will not draw their attention away from the artist. • POSSIBLE ISSUES: The photography studio is often quite busy,

and lots of other students may be using it to record their products as well. I have booked the studio for two sessions next week, however I will need to make the most of my time there as it may be difficult to book in the future. Furthermore, if I need to reshoot any performance scenes then I will need to book the photography studio well in advance.

Fashion• I want the artist's fashion style to be fairly modern, as this fits

in line with the hip-hop genre. Furthermore the smart-casual style of this outfit will suit the performance scenes well, as they will add to the polished feel thus creating a stronger contrast with the narrative scenes. Having the artist wear a 'superman' t-shirt underneath his shirt parodies Clark Kent, thus emphasising the superhero theme of the video.

My actors costume will consist of…

Bomber Jacket Skinny Jeans Nike Roshe Shoes (preferably black) White Shirt Superman T-Shirt Glasses

Actors• Mike is my main actor for my music video,

and will play the artist in both the performance and narrative scenes.

• Mike is quite an energetic person, therefore his performance will create an atmosphere the suits the hip-hop genre and the beat of the song.

• He is also well accustomed to hip-hop genre, and knows this song well, therefore he will be able to lip-sync this song efficiently.

Narrative Scenes

Location• I have chosen to film my music video at my house, as it is easily

accessible and can be adapted when filming (e.g furniture can be moved etc.) My brothers room has a strong superhero theme, which will benefit the mise-en-scene of the video. Additionally, as it is quite a quiet closed location, my actors are less likely to act awkward or uncomfortable.

• The majority of filming will take place on a Sunday, due to the availibilty of my actors, however my cul-de-sac can be quite busy during the afternoon. This means that I may have to film some scenes early in the morning, and may have to spread filming over a couple of days if needs be.

• Additionally, my brother's room is quite small which may make it difficult to film some camera angles. To overcome this, I may have to move some furniture around however I must be careful to not ruin the continuity of the video.

Actors• Mike will continue to play the performer/artist in this video in

order to create a sense of continuity and to link the scenes together. Furthermore, as the ‘Express Yourself’ message comes from the artist, including him in both the narrative and performance scenes will emphasise this theme and create an inspirational star persona.

• Freddie, my younger brother, will play the child that the artist mentors. He is incredibly confident and has shown me a range of dance moves and facial expressions that he can do, indicating that he is enthusiastic to take part. Freddie and Mike have a good relationship, therefore they should work well together.

• POSSIBLE ISSUES: Freddie is only 6, and may get bored quite easily therefore we will have to make sure that he is extremely engaged and excited by the filming process. Additionally, he can be quite stubborn, therefore I may have to use rewards, such as sweets, to encourage him to continue filming.

Fashion• Actor 2's costume must be incredibly unique, in order to illustrate the idea of 'Expressing

Yourself'. Furthermore, the superhero costume needs to be quite bright and must include bold colours, so that it stands out from the mise-en-scene and is more likely to attract the audience's attention. I think creating a unique superhero costume would be much more successful than using a pre-existing one, such as Spiderman or Batman, as it will make the character appear to have a strong sense of individuality which links well with the songs message.
