Tips for Successful Towing

• Familiarize yourself with towing with a load. You may take advantage of enrolling yourself to driving schools so you can learn how to drive while towing loads with varying weights.

• When towing something, never overload your car or your trailer/object you tow. This will make sure that you will have optimal control of the vehicle at all times.


• Don’t overwork your trailer hitch. Always make sure you follow your manufacturer’s instructions regarding this one.

• To minimize chances of swaying, make sure your trailer is front heavy.

• Make sure the cargo on your trailer is secured so they won’t shift.


• Make sure you have the necessary towing harness with trailer lights.

• You might also want to use trailer brakes for larger loads. Don’t tie in your trailer brakes to your regular breaking system as it may result in inadequate braking.

The Thompson Automotive Group:"A History of Success"


The simplicity of its name reflected the quiet confidence of its founder. TheTry-Me Service Station opened for business in 1929, founded on ownerEdmund Thompson's belief that once people tried his outstanding productsand services, they would become loyal customers.

He was right! The Try-Me Service Station prospered despite the onset ofthe Great Depression. Building on his initial success, Edmund decided totake this same philosophy of customer satisfaction into automotive sales,marking the birth of the Thompson Automotive Group.

Fortunately, Edmund never strayed from his original dedication tocustomer service. When new car production was stopped during World WarII, he was able to go back to his roots and keep his company going as afull-service gas station.


The end of the war was a new beginning for Thompson Motor Sales. Thecompany prospered in post-war years, adding Packard to the Thompsonlineup in 1954. More importantly, those years marked the entrance ofEdmund's sons, Edmund Jr. and Frank, into the family business.

In 1956, the Thompson family demonstrated their commitment to long-range growth by making a bold decision. Realizing that Willys, Studebakerand Packard were obsolete, they dropped all their existing lines in favor ofbecoming a Mercury dealer. The wisdom of this decision was proven byyears of steady growth, culminating in the addition of Lincoln to theThompson product line in 1969.


In 1973, another family member joined the Thompson team. Aftercompleting a tour of duty in the Air Force, Frank's son, Doug, added hiscommitment to the family business. And what a business it has become!

Tom Thompson Sr. is the automotive group's current President, and inkeeping with the Thompson legacy of business acumen and foresight, theyhave extended their philosophy of complete customer satisfaction to allother new dealerships:
