Student Ministry News
Spring is approaching and that means that we are about to
get busy. It also means that it is time to start thinking about our
summer plans. We have set our D-Now weekend for March 22-
23. We will again do this as a Lock-In at the church for the
weekend. Right now we are planning an “Easter” theme to our
weekend. I will be sending out a letter with more details. The cost for D-Now
will again be $25. The cost for the weekend includes a t-shirt. In order to get
the correct size for everyone I need your registration and t-shirt size by March
14th. D-Now will begin at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, March 22
with pizza for dinner. I hope you will join us for a great weekend.
We have also tentatively set our Summer Schedule. This year Community
Changers will be the week of June 23-28. We will host Community Changers at
our church again this year. We are also working on a trip to 6 Flags in Atlanta
again this summer. Be sure to come on Wednesday nights so you can be the first
to know what we are doing this summer.
There are a few other things that will be coming up on the calendar in the next
couple of months. First, we are planning a special event during Spring Break. If
you are interested in this you will need to come on Wednesday nights to find out
the other details. Also our Student Ministry Sunday is coming up soon. We will
need several of our students to help lead us in worship on that day. Please be in
prayer over what you might be led to do to serve that Sunday. We will be putting
together that service in the next couple of weeks.
In Christ,
John Harmon

Meredith Moments
I was excited that the SFBC choir did such an
excellent job on the special music March 17th. I
want to announce to the SFBC choir members that
we will start choir practice by 8 pm on Wednesday
nights. I know schedules are hectic and will con-
tinue to be with Spring sports in the air. However, I
want to help serve our folks by starting as early as possible. I know practicing
in the middle of the week and late at night is difficult for those who have to get
up and work the next morning. Therefore, all choir members are encouraged
to be “ready” to practice in the choir room by 7:50pm.
ANNOUCEMENT: If you would like to be involved in music ministry,
please let me know. We are always looking for new members to get involved.
I am working on a new phase of our ministry that will include CD and DVD
publication. If you are interested and want to know more, text “I’m in” along
with your name to 803-422-0494 and I will be in touch.
The Children’s Choir will continue to work on specials for the next two
months. Our next performance will March 24. Remember to be consistent
with bringing your children. We work on roughly 5 to 6 songs weekly and
want them to be familiar with all of them. Jane Ann and I truly enjoy working
with your children. We are inspired by the praise and worship they lift up
every Wednesday!
In Christ,
Chad
The youth at Swansea First Baptist Church will GIVE GOD THE GLORY with every-
thing we do; and we will have FUN while GROWING TOGETHER, MEETING OTH-
ERS NEEDS, and SPREADING THE WORD.

Parish Nurse News
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
Colorectal cancer screening saves lives. If everyone who is 50 years old or older
were screened regularly, as many as 60% of deaths from this cancer could be
avoided. Among cancers that affect both men and women, colorectal cancer is
the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
How Can You Reduce Your Risk?
If you’re 50 years old or older, getting a screening test for colorectal cancer
could save your life. Here’s how -
Colorectal cancer screening tests can find precancerous polyps so they can be
removed before they turn into cancer.
Screening tests also can find colorectal cancer early, when treatment often
leads to a cure
What Are The Symptoms of Colorectal Cancer?
Precancerous polyps and colorectal cancer don’t always cause symptoms, espe-
cially at first. You could have polyps or colorectal cancer and not know it.
Symptoms of colorectal cancer may include -
Blood in or on the stool (bowel movement)
Stomach pain, aches, or cramps that do not go away
Losing weight and you don’t know why
What Are The Screening Tests for Colorectal Cancer?
Several tests are available to screen for colorectal cancer.
Colonoscopy (every 10 years)
High-sensitivity fecal occult blood test (FOBT), also know as a stool test
(every year)
Flexible sigmoidoscopy (every 5 years) with high sensitivity FOBT (every 3
years).
Until next time,
Laura Jumper, Parish Nurse
