Central News From My Perspective
“The message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is Christ, the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18) We assign value to things. My family. My favorite car. My lucky hat. My pocket knife. My smart phone. These are a few of my favorite things. I have a friend who is not far away from his eightieth birthday. About 40 years ago, he started buying land. He didn’t buy land indiscriminately, but he bought land that had once been part of the family farm. After years of waiting patiently, he had bought up the land and put the family farm back together. I was riding with him about twenty years ago when he showed me the property. I couldn’t help noticing that a large industrial park abutted his land. I asked the obvious question: “Will somebody offer you a ton of cash to expand the industrial park onto your land?” He looked at me and said resolutely, “This land is not for sale to anybody at any price.” Recently, I had a chance to sit down with him. He shared with me that he was actively marketing the land now. Sensing my surprise, he told me that it would be unfair of him to pass this land on to his two daughters, neither of whom would want the headache of owning this large farm. What he valued, he knew would simply be a burden to the next generation. It didn’t take long to sell it, because of its location. How much is something worth? Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. The verse of scripture quoted above tells us two things about value. First, it tells us that an unbelieving world sees no value in the Cross of Jesus. “It’s foolishness,” they say. But it tells us that in the Cross there is saving power granted to those who believe. A few verses later, the Cross is called “Christ, the power of God, and Christ, the wisdom of God.” What that Cross means to followers of Jesus can never be quantified. However, what Jesus did on the Cross shows us how deeply we are loved. What are you worth? What am I worth? The very life of the Son of God. See you Sunday. What we do here matters.

Easter Cantata - What a Morning! Our 11:00a service on Easter morning will feature an Easter cantata by our Chancel Choir. What a Morning traces Jesus’ journey from His triumphant entry into Jerusalem to the Last Supper with His disciples, from His struggle and betrayal in the garden of Gethsemane to His trial and conviction in Pilate’s hall, and His agonized crucifixion and death to His victorious resurrection. This production featuring song, narration, and a variety of instruments will be a beautiful addition to our worship as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection. We hope you’ll join us!
