Muted Screams is a Canadian rock band from Quebec city, born in the summer of 2007. Already very young

the quartet is distinguished by its singer / guitarist Mlanie Gagn with her amazing energy and powerfulvoice.

AroarA is the new duo from Montreals Andrew Whiteman (Broken Social Scene founding member, Apostle of Hustle) and Ariel EngThey play amplified cigar box guitars and use a 404 sampler to trigger mellotrons and Black Sabbath bells. It is a new type of minimali

which allows the emotions to come through unimpeded by bombast or blarney. Vocal duets, twin guitar lines and thundercloud drumachines are their stock and trade.

AroarAs first foray is based on the work of avant-garde American poet, Alice Notley. Her song fragments, along with powerful imagthroughout the poems, inspired AroarA to transform the work into music. With her permission, they used the words from each poem to mafaux-folk song forms and then added beats, melodies, and vintage sounds to create their self-titled debut EP and future full length entit"In the Pines". The effect the music has on listeners is otherworldly; both ghostlike and visceral. AroarAs sound is not easily comparedleaves you with the uncanny feeling of something both equally familiar and foreign. The album was recorded in various living rooms acroCanada and mixed impeccably and minimally by Sandro Perri (Constellation Records).

The band continues to be busy, just wrapping dates with Martha Wainwright. In 2003 it walisted at No. 24 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time and in 2004, Live At The Apollo was added to the Library Of CongressNational Recording Registry. Project Overview: It was 1980. Leaving our progressive rock roots behind, Sandy Horne and I were now drawn to the new direction music was taking. We

were captivated by the minimalist sketches of suburban life. Suddenly the boring landscape of our own backyards, which we had tried so hard to escape fro

in our prog-rock days, had become centre stage for a whole new generation. And we, all the misfits who had never really fit neatly into the mainstream, had

finally found a home. The music we first produced as the Spoons showed little indication of what we would eventually become, particularly in songs like

Conventional Beliefs and Red Light, but it has its screw-the-music-industry charms. I dont even think getting airplay was a concern back then. It was weird

and raw and it was uniquely ours.

Wed heard about a great little place in Hamilton called Grant Avenue Studios. Legendary producer Brian Eno had worked there with the up and coming

engineer and owner of the studio, on some high profile ambient recordings. That young, soon to be very much in demand engineer was Daniel Lanois. He

was already, Im sure, mentally rubbing elbows with Bono and U2. But, for the time being, he'd helped a bunch of kids from Burlington, Ontario make their f
