OCTOBER 13, 2019 - 3 - TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

My deepest thanks to all parishioners of St. Timothy parish for all you do to increase charity and to take on sacrifice. Fr. Ed

to “let go” does not mean to stop caring it means I cannot do it for someone

else

to “let go” is not to cut myself off it’s the realization I cannot control

another.

to “let go” is to not enable but to allow learning from natural

consequences

to “let go” is to admit powerlessness which means the outcome is not in my hands

to “let go” is not to try to change or blame another it is to make the most of myself

to “let go” is not to “care for” but to “care about”

to “let go” is not to “fix” but to be supportive

to “let go” is not to judge but to allow another to be a human being

to “let go” is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes but to allow others to affect their destinies

to “let go” is not to be protective it’s to permit another to face reality

to “let go” is not to deny but to accept

to “let go” is not to nag, scold or argue but instead to search out my own shortcomings

and correct them

to “let go” is not to adjust everything to my desires but to take each day as it comes, and cherish

myself in it

to “let go” is not to criticize and regulate anybody but to try to become what I dream I can be

to “let go” is to not regret the past but to grow and live for the future

to “let go” is to fear less and love more

LET GO

WANTED, YOUR OLD HEARING AIDS

The SERTOMA CLUB (Service to Mankind) collects, reconditions, repairs and retrofits old hearing aids and distributes them to the less fortunate. A collection box is in the office.

And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" - Lk 17:15-18

October 20, 2019, to attend All Souls’ Day Mass on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 8:30 AM. If you wish to attend this mass to honor a loved one who died during this last year, please stop in the narthex for a name tag on which you may write the name of your deceased loved one as well as your own name.

ARE YOU CALLED TO BE A DEACON? The call to the diaconate is a call to service of Liturgy, Word and Charity. This call does not come to the individual alone, nor for his own sake. It is not a right, but rather it is a call affirmed and recognized by the Church in testimony of the man who is living a life of service to God, family, parish, and community.

The Diocese of Orlando, Office of the Permanent Diaconate is calling on the Church community to bring forth reputable men, servants, filled with the Spirit, to discern a call to the permanent diaconate. Men seeking to discern this call are encouraged to attend a Diaconate Discernment Night. Six discernment sessions will be held throughout the diocese in November:

November 5 – St. Timothy, 1351 Paige Pl., Lady Lake, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

November 7 – St. John the Evangelist, 5655 Stadium Parkway, Viera, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

November 12 – Holy Cross, 12600 Marsfield Ave., Orlando, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

November 14 – Resurrection, 3720 Old Hwy. 37, Lakeland, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM

VENERABLE FULTON SHEEN SPEAKS . . . “Pride vs humility: Since pride is a capital sin, it follows that a first condition of conversion to humility: the ego must decrease, God must

increase. This humiliation most often comes by a profound realization that sin does not pay, that it never keeps its promises, that just as a violation of the laws of health produces sickness, so the violation of the laws of God produces unhappiness.

SPIRITUAL GAME PLAN Do you want to be a good Christian? The first of your battles will be to enter into and remain in the state of grace, to avoid any mortal sin. And then, because you want to love God above all things, you will not also try not to commit venial sins. The practice of some acts of piety throughout the day will help you have a divine contemplative life in the midst of the daily routine. The habitual performance of these acts will also be the foundation for growing Christian virtues. Most important is to be consistent in your daily schedule, in your spiritual game plan, so that you will live as a child of God.

Daily 1. Get up at a fixed time, as early as possible. Eight hours

of sleep is enough. 2. Offer your day to God though the intercession of our Lady. 3. Work with order and intensity during the day as a way

of serving God. 4. Try to attend Mass, receiving Holy Communion, as often

as possible. 5. Spend some time in mental prayer before the Blessed

Sacrament (15 minutes if possible) 6. Pray the Angelus. Traditionally the Angelus is prayed at

sunrise (6:00 AM), noon, and sunset (6:00 PM). 7. Pray the Rosary, if possible with your family, offering each

decade for a specific intention. 8. Do some other spiritual reading. Start with the new

Testament or some well-known spiritual book, e.g.. The Imitation of Christ.

9. Make a short examination of conscience at the end of the day before going to bed. Two or three minutes is enough. Follow these steps: Humble yourself in the presence of God. Tell him, “Lord, if you will, make me clean.” Ask for light to acknowledge your defects and virtues and to see the dangers and opportunities of the day. Ask for repentance, amendment, and encouragement.

Note: next week we will reveal what the weekly and monthly spiritual game plan is. (Source: “The Roman Missal”)

TRUNK OR TREAT

This year the religious education department at St. Timothy is proud to host our 5th Annual Halloween Trunk or Treat on Sunday,

October 27, just after the 5:00 PM Mass. Last year was a huge success, with over 30 parishioners decorating their cars or golf carts and giving out candy to children from all over the area. I encourage you to consider decorating your car or golf cart and joining us in the North parking lot along Paige Place on Sunday the 27th. Be sure to call up your neighbors and invite them to come along. Our Trunk or Treat is open to the public, so spread the word for an evening of fun and treats. If you’re interested, please contact Robert Laseter at the parish office to sign up!

CATECHISM CORNER: HOW TO EAT AN ELEPHANT ONE BITE AT A TIME

Article 2804: The Lord’s Prayer (CCC): The first series of petitions carries us toward him, for his own sake: thy name, thy kingdom, thy will! It is characteristic of love to think first of the

one we love. In none of the three petitions do we mention ourselves; the burning desire, even anguish, of the beloved Son for his Father’s glory.

REFLECTION: As with the Creed and the Commandments, the Our Father begins with our creator. This is the starting point for all our prayers – God’s presence, God’s name, God’s will.

PRAYER:

Hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done. (Source: “Day by Day with the Catechism”, Peter A. Giersch, Catholic Book Publishing, 2006)

CELEBRATING HALLOWEEN WITH THE CELTS Halloween is a holiday loved by old and young. Why not learn the roots of this holiday by attending a solo performance that traces the Celtic origins of Halloween

and explains the historic transformation into a Christian Feast as well as its introduction into the United States by Irish immigrants during the 19th Century.

A highly entertaining and informative solo performance by Greg Sean Canning, immediate past Florida State President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will enlighten you. In costume, you will hear all the details of this transformation.

The performance will take place at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Paige Place, The Villages in the Ministry Building on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. Doors will open at 3:30 PM and the performance (approximately 45 minutes) will begin at 4:00 PM

A voluntary donation for Hibernian Charities is suggested.
