Hello families,

I hope you are settling into the new season and finding many places to experi-

ence God’s amazing handiwork! We have a lot going on around the parish

right now, I am sure you’ll find something that interests you and your family.

Many times people approach me about what things to write about in the bul-

letin. Usually some will tell me they liked something I wrote, or offer sugges-

tions about what I could write about in the future. So often, I am asked to

write about things that really bother people. Like the way the kids dress at

church. Or the fact that people don’t sing. Or the spotty attendance at Mass.

Or the importance of this or that. And those are all really good and important

issues that I am happy to write about. But… I think it’s equally important to

think about our own shortcomings. What if, every time we notice something

about someone else that really bothers us, we looked at ourselves and asked

why we are so easily disturbed? What if we honestly asked ourselves how Je-

sus would handle the situation or whether we are being merciful or forgiving?

What if we really meant and lived the line in the prayer that says, “forgive us

our trespasses AS we forgive those who trespass against us?” I’m not saying

it’s ok for kids to come to church half-dressed and I sure wish we would sing

along with the songs, but really, are these the places we are in most need

right now? It seems to me we are in a time in the world, and especially in our

country, where forgiveness and mercy and encouragement and lifting some-

one up in prayer are urgently needed. So this is my challenge to you this

week…every time you find yourself upset by an action or inaction of someone

else, whether in church, home, work or school, you take a second and look at

yourself. Is there something you could do to help the offender? Stop for a few

moments and pray for them. Pray for their family. And pray for this parish,

community, and country. I am convinced we need prayer right now, more than

a lesson on Mass participation.

Yours In Christ,

Melissa

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo

Friends,

Attention—great news!!! The specially blessed Pilgrim Virgin Statue of our Lady of Fati-

ma is coming to our parish for the First Friday devotions-Mass and procession at 7pm Nov

4th. This statue is an exact replica of the statue in Fatima. Many have been blessed by

praying before this statue. We are one of the few parishes in the state playing host to this

pilgrim statue. Plan to join us for the special mass and procession of our Lady’s statue on

Nov 4th, first Friday. We will have special devotions after the Mass with prayers for divine

healing. So many of us need prayer for healing of body, mind and spirit. Come and pray with us. This next year

marks the 100th anniversary of the appearances of Our Lady in Fatima.

I will be attending the Catholic Medical Association annual meeting in Washington D.C. this Thursday to Satur-

day. The bishop has appointed me the chaplain of the local chapter. There are many issues facing our nation which

involve the medical field. The Catholic Medical association is committed to promoting and defending human life

and all the attendant moral issues.

As we approach the time for national elections, do not

forget to seek God’s guiding light in making such mo-

mentous choices. God is neither Republican nor Demo-

crat...nor any political party. Let faith go with you into

the voting booth.
