1 Cor 12:12

Human beings are united in their suffering. When we find ourselves in a painful moment, our first reaction is “why me?” as if we are the only person on earth who ever encountered this challenge. Going through life with a “why me” attitude only finds us wallowing in the mire of self-pity and never seizing opportunities or graces. We walk in solidarity with every human being in the experience of suffering. Believing that the goal of life is the elimination or avoid-ance of suffering is simply an illusion that keeps us entrenched in a collective myth. This myth distorts us and limits us.

There are living witnesses among us showing how courage and determination can overcome any degree of hardship, pain, loss, or tragedy. Folks finding the normalcy of their lives sud-denly torn asunder are faced with options: opportunity or despair, stay or leave. Jesus stands before us as the prime example of endurance and perseverance. He is the One who showed humility through both the triumphs of life (by learning to be humble) and the tragedies and injustices (by learning how to be obedient). To secular ears, this may be perceived as non-sense. But to those with the eyes of faith, they are pearls of great price.

Your spiritually adopted baby is developing quite beautifully now. Her weight is approaching 2 pounds. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical ad-vances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Don’t forget to pray for your baby. Abortion is legal through all nine months and her mom might still feel pressure to abort.

“As they were marching out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; this man they pressed into service to carry his cross.” (Matthew 27:32)

The Lord calls us to love God and to love our neighbor. Every day we are presented with opportunities to love our neighbor and help him “carry his cross.” These opportunities are not usually big events; they are usually ordinary occurrences like helping someone carry their gro-ceries or holding the door open for them. The key is putting the other person’s needs before our own and not expecting anything in return. Please reach out to the elderly, immunocompromised, lonely or any-one needing assistance. Getting the mail, groceries, picking up medi-cations, even a phone call will ease the anxiety and frustrations many are feeling. If you know of someone who needs non-financial assistance and can-not help, please call the tri-parish office.

Prayer for Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

A Prayer for Protection in Time of Pandemic

O Mary, you always brighten our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother, you know what we need,

and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee.

Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician,

for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died.

Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick

and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross,

to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protection we seek refuge,

O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Fix Our Gaze on The Cross

Where can we fix our gaze this week? It is simple: upon the cru-cified one. Jesus on the cross is life’s compass, which directs us to heaven. The poverty of the wood, the silence of the Lord, his loving self-emptying show us the necessity of a simpler life, free from anxi-ety about things. From the cross, Jesus teaches us the great courage involved in renunciation. We will never move forward if we are heavily weighed down. We need to free ourselves from the clutches of consumerism and the snares of selfishness, from always wanting more, from never being satisfied, and from a heart closed to the needs of the poor. Jesus on the cross burns with love, and calls us to a life that is passionate for him.

~Pope Francis

Divine Direction A guy named Joe found himself in dire trouble. His business had gone bust, and he was in serious financial trouble. He was so desperate that he decided to ask God for help. He began to pray, “God, please help me. I’ve lost my business, and if I don’t get some money, I’m going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the lotto.” Lotto night came, but somebody else won it. Joe again prayed, “God, please let me win the lotto! I’ve lost my business and house, and I’m going to lose my car as well.” Lotto night came, but Joe still had no luck. Once again, he prayed, “My God, why have you forsaken me? I’ve lost my business, house, and car. My wife and children are starving. I don’t often ask you for help, and I’ve always been a good servant to you. Please just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in order.” Suddenly, there was a blinding flash of light as the heavens opened. Joe was confronted by the voice of God himself. “Joe, meet me halfway on this. Buy a ticket!”
