Transcript of Trek to Pindari Glacier l Travel and Discover Uttrakhand
The Pindari
Glacier
The glacier is over 3.2 kms in length, 1.5 km in width and at 3657m above sea level. It is situated to the south east of the majestic Nandadevi, 7816m and south of Nandakot, 6816m. The trek runs along the southern wilderness of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and is bordered by beautiful landscapes and breathtaking views. A trekkers paradise - it is set amidst lush green forest, numerous waterfalls and hanging valleys. Upon reaching the upper levels, the trees fall off, the pines cease and the trail enters an enchanted garden of fern, wild flowers and rhododendron.
One of the important glaciers in Uttaranchal, it is easier to visit than most other glaciers, the trekking route to this glacier is considered one of the best in Kumaon. The valley is drained by the Pindar river that emerges from the glacier. To reach glacier one has to trek approximately 45kms till ‘Zero Point’, the trail runs through villages, the Dhakuri pass and further follows upstream to the source of the river, the Pindari glacier.
