The Wombat range of intumescent fire dampers includes a large variety ofsub systems for horizontal floor slab mounted applications. These are alldesignated in the following pages as sub systems starting with F. The subsystems categories include individual sub system for FS, FO and FXapplications as defined below.
FSsub systems
Floor mounted, Square fire damper assemblies, suppliedcomplete with casing and fixing angles and integralintumescent cell(s). These provide a better alternative tospring loaded curtain type mechanical fire dampers. Theyprovide some insulation (low temperature rise on non fireside of fire separation) and dramatic radiant heat reductionduring a fire making, coupled with the advantage of notincluding moving parts.
FOsub systemsFloor mounted, circular or rOund fire damper assemblies, supplied complete with casing and fixing angles and integralintumescent cell(s). Unlike mechanical fire dampers whichare difficult and therefore expensive to make in a circularformat, the Wombat intumescent fire dampers are costeffective and therefore ideal where connecting to flexibleducting. Why use square to round connectors and have to
go to all this additional work and cost if you do not have to?
FXsub systemsAlternatively Mounted dampers for Floor orientations are
installed by specialist contractors typically, which allow the
Wombat intumescent cell or damper grille to be installed
without (X) a conventional casing and mounting angles.
These systems are ideal for problematic installations and for
fire safety upgrades on existing buildings.

Ensure mounting flangeshave been ordered 2x thegap between the dampercasing and the wall opening
ie: if the gap around the damper is20mm the flanges should be 40mm
Fix one set of mountingflanges to the damperensuring that the damperwill be located within thethickness of the floor onceinstalled
Note: These systems do not needto be in the centerline of the flooronly somewhere within the floorthickness.
Insert damper into openingand apply approved firerated sealant to perimeterNote: while sealant is only requiredto one side if it cannot be seenduring maintenance inspections ithas to be assumed that it is notthere. Ensure sealant can be seenfrom side to be inspected or applyto both sides!
Fit the second set of flangesand ensure that the damperis securely in place
Notes on the installation of fire dampers1. AS1682.2 requires break away joints for ALL fire damper
typesthere are no exemptions.2. A fire damper label must be fitted in a prominent position to
each fire damper installation, refer to your distributor forsupply of the labels at time of purchase
