November 29 at the Kings Court was well attended with many shoppers, children, veterans and us! "

We had a visit from several the Veterans Memorial & Support Foundation of Los Gatos Committee members showing their appreciation and support. "

We also had a lot of heart felt thank you’s from the community. There were a few veterans who stopped by and wanted to have an ornament, so we made them on the spot. Over and over the sentiment was how touched and thankful they were that we were honoring the Vietnam Veterans."

Each ornament on the tree represented a local veteran who served in Vietnam. We had over 200 ornaments and the effort proved well spent, as we have won first place! "

Warm wishes for a happy holiday,

Our country owes a debt of gratitude to all our veterans, but homeless veterans in particular need our

support. The US Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that each night about 50,000 veterans are homeless. The VA estimates that one-third of homeless veterans were stationed in a war zone and two thirds served our country for at least three years. Nine percent of homeless veterans are between the ages of 18 and 30 years, and 41% are between 31 and 50 years of age. For information about federal programs available to veterans, contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 877-4AID-VET or visit the VA’s website at http://www.va.gov/homeless/.

!State Regent’s Message: December 2014 !

Dear California Daughters, It’s December—the most wonderful time of the year! It’s also a challenging time with decorating, year-end tax planning, finding that perfect present, preparing all the favorite holiday dishes, making those lists and checking them twice. To quote Dr. Seuss, “How did it get so late so soon?” The Heritage Tea with 125 Daughters in attendance was held at the historic Lions Gate Hotel at McClellan Park in mid-November. The program on the beautiful chapels at our military academies was both informative and inspirational. The assembly, many donning picturesque hats, joined in singing the hymns of each branch of the service. Now it is time for our Victorian Christmas Tea on Saturday December 13th at our restored and repaired magnificent Headquarters in Glendora. “She” is freshly painted outside and lovingly decorated for Christmas inside. Please plan to join us for this grand event with traditional tea fare. My Jerry and I will spend Christmas in Indiana with my family. We wish for you the things you won’t find under your tree or in your stocking but will find within your heart: remembrance of happiness past, hope for happiness to come, fellowship and love, acceptance of sorrow and gratitude for joy, but most of all the peace that passes understanding. As we enjoy all the festivities of this month, I wish for you the joy that whatever holiday you celebrate brings: Happy Kwanzaa, a Wise Winter Solstice, a Happy Chanukah, a Merry Christmas! So—Celebrate America! Celebrate Service! And Celebrate the Reason for the Season!! !!!Carol Oakley Jackson California State Regent !

I wish you the blessings of a joyous holiday season filled with love and laughter. At Headquarters we will host the 13th annual DAR Christmas Open House where we will welcome the public to our buildings for cookies, hot cocoa, a visit with Santa and holiday cheer.
