Tom Media Evaluation

Before creating my media I looked at other established magazines. Firstly I looked at general magazines then looked at ones more specific to the genre of music magazine I chose. For example source and xxl magazine. I looked at aspects of the front covers, contents pages and double page spreads and copied the ideas for my own product. I also adjusted certain aspects to be more specific to my magazine genre. I copied the conventions seen on most magazines e.g. barcode, date, price and website. It represents the people that are interested in hip hop music. Being a hip hop magazine it uses relevant lingo and topics and stories that would interest a hip hop fan.

My product would be distributed by a magazine, publisher looking to publish a hip hop magazine. It has a very specific target audience as hip hop is not the most popular genre of music.

The audience for my product would be any hip hop fan as it is a magazine specifically about hip hop. It is not aimed at a certain gender as both males and females can enjoy hip hop music but I would imagine the readers would be made of mainly males. It would also be aimed at teens to early 30’s as this is the age of people that would be interested in my magazine.

I attracted my audience by including relevant stories, language, pictures and topics to the hip hop music genre. The way I addressed them is by using language/lingo and ideas that they will be able to relate to.

Firstly I have learnt how to use different programs such as paint shop pro to actually create my magazine. I have also been shown how real magazines are made/created and how they are distributed whether in magazine form or on the web.

I feel I have been more technically able for example I have better producing skills. I have been more able to use paint shop and other programmes efficiently. Compared to the preliminary task my finished cover contains much more conventions that would be seen on a real magazine. Overall my finished magazine is much more like a real magazine as I have developed a better knowledge and gained more technical skills in terms of production.
