The country’s sugar production has fallen

sharply by 30.22% to 7.79 million tonne (MT) in the

first three months of current marketing year ending

September

Sugar production has been pegged lower at

26 MT this year from 33.16 MT in 2018-19.

The average sugar recovery in Maharashtra

has declined to 10% from 10.5% achieved in the

year-ago period due to loss of sucrose content in the

flood-affected sugarcane crop

Value Addition for Prelims

Price of sugarcane is fixed by the centre/State, while the price

of sugar is market determined

Fair and remunerative price (FRP) is the minimum price at which rate

sugarcane is to be purchased by sugar mills from farmers

The FRP is fixed by Union government on the basis of

recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices

(CACP).

FRP assures margins to farmers, irrespective of whether sugar mills

generate a profit or not.

This will be uniformly applicable all over the country. Besides FRP,

some states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, UP and TN

announce a State Advised Price, which is generally higher than the FRP.

14 scientists awarded as Swarna Jayanti Fellowships

Basic research in frontier areas of science and

technology. The fellowship covers all the

requirements for performing the research and

includes a fellowship of 25 thousand rupees per

month. The five lakh rupees for five years provided in

addition to their salary. India's 50th year of

independence, Swaran Jayanti Fellowships awarded

to young and brilliant scientists to pursue unfettered

research with financial freedom and flexibility.

Swarna Jayanti Fellowships

The Swarna Jayanti Fellowships scheme instituted by Government of India to

commemorate India's fiftieth year of independence.

Under this scheme, a selected number of young scientists with proven track record.

The awardees supported by Department of Science & Technology, for fellowship and

research.

The requirements for performing the research and include a fellowship of Rs 25,000/

per month as well as a research grant of 5 lakh Rupees for 5 years in addition to

their salary.

The areas identified for bringing in tri-services jointness and synergy include setting

up of common logistics support pools where two or more services have their

presence.

The CDS will have a crucial role in ensuring optimum utilization of allocated budget,

ushering in more synergy in procurement, training, and operations of the services

through joint planning and integration.

The other primary mandate of the CDS is to facilitate the indigenization of weapons

and equipment to the maximum extent possible while formulating the overall defence

acquisition plan for the three Services.

The young scientists to work in the field of rural development where there are several opportunities for cheaper and better innovations. The theme of 107th ISC is Science and Technology: Rural Development. Technology Impact The union Government programs created more incubators in the last five years than in the previous 50 years. The technology helped in building toilets and providing electricity to the poor. The technology of Geo Tagging and Data Science, many of the projects in rural and urban areas, could be timely completed. Digitalization, E-Commerce, Internet Banking, and Mobile Banking services are assisting the rural population significantly.

Year 2020 Designated as Year of Nurse and Midwife World Health Organization (WHO) designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife to honor the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. The World Health Organization (WHO) is the collaborating partner in the three-year Nursing Now Campaign (2018–2020).


Aim of Campaign The main objective is to improve health globally by raising the status and profile of nursing, demonstrating achieved by a strengthened nursing profession, and enabling nurses to maximize their contribution to achieving Universal Health Coverage.
