10 years of championing a greener built environment
www.ecobuild.co.uk
04 - 06 March 2014, ExCeL London
It’s our second year and it’s gone absolutely brilliantly. We’ve got seven members of staff on our exhibit and we can hardly get 10 minutes spare to eat! It’s been really busy and, at times, quite full on. We’re here to educate people about solar thermal and show them that there’s more technology out there than they think. The reaction has been great – we’ve had 161 leads in just two days, so we’re really excited.
Mark Wozencroft, Managing Director, Minus7
This year’s Ecobuild exhibition was a huge success for PhotonStar, with over 5,000 attendees visiting our 300m2 lighting feature. Ecobuild offers an excellent platform for lighting companies to position themselves strongly in front of many of the building industry’s key decision makers and budget holders, such as sustainability and facilities managers, who don’t attend lighting-specific exhibitions. We regularly establish important leads with large global companies at Ecobuild and 2013 was no exception!
Fenella Frost, Marketing Communications Director, PhotonStar
We were very pleased with the quality of visitors to our stand who could appreciate the value of our solutions. Ecobuild offers us an excellent platform from which we are able to initiate sustainable relationships.
Deirdra Bartholomew, Marketing and Operations Manager, PUDLO Waterproof Concrete Systems
This year’s Ecobuild was absolutely terrific – the best to date. From the speakers, content and exhibitors to event organisation, the ‘world’s largest green building event’ has set itself a new benchmark. M&S is delighted to be part of the Global Clients Group and we enjoyed participating in Ecobuild India and China.
Munish Datta, Head of Property Plan A, Marks and Spencer
What do we do?Ecobuild is a global sustainable construction event that connects industry professionals in order to help them network, learn and discover new products and innovative solutions.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Ecobuild has the most comprehensive showcase of sustainable construction products in the world. It features an unrivalled conference and seminar programme, involving over 600 industry experts, innovators and practitioners. It also provides a platform for businesses representing the entire spectrum of sustainable construction products for residential, commercial and industrial projects.
During 10 years of Ecobuild, the UK has pioneered the toughest sustainability legislation in the world, while the business case for a more sustainable built environment has become ever stronger. It drives economic growth, creates jobs and contributes to global priorities such as climate change prevention and energy security.
Ecobuild has championed the business case for more sustainable buildings and helped its audience respond to the complex and demanding legislation. Ecobuild connects the entire built environment supply chain, helping them to play their part in realising the vision of cleaner, greener and more efficient buildings.
Ecobuild continues to be the meeting place for everyone interested in delivering a sustainable built environment and a better world for us all.

Sustainable Design and Construction The Sustainable Design and Construction zone focuses on the topic that has been at the heart of Ecobuild since it launched a decade ago. This area is where visitors can learn about the latest design ideas, future construction materials, lighting and technical solutions to sustainable construction challenges. The role of new and existing innovations, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), will be a central feature of the 2014 show.

Content zones include:Building Performance and BIMBackgroundNewly completed buildings can use up to 300% more energy than predicted at design stage. This has caught the attention of government, as there is little point in introducing tougher energy regulations if buildings don’t perform as designed. The Building Performance zone will explain the issues and help visitors understand how to get optimum energy performance out of completed schemes.
Key themes• Government Soft Landings• Why do new homes underperform compared to the predictions?
• Performance gap in non-domestic buildings
DesignBackgroundGood design is a critical part of sustainable building delivery. The Design zone will look at the most cost-effective way of delivering sustainable projects. It will include case studies and tackle issues including lighting, fabric, services, adaptation and designing for productive environments.
Key themes• Latest developments in Passivhaus• Costs of Passivhaus• Simple, effective and cheap solutions
Refurbishment and RetrofitBackgroundMeeting the government’s carbon reduction targets means focusing on improving the existing stock, as 70% of today’s buildings will still be standing in 2050. The Refurbishment and Retrofit zone will cover what needs to be done to make this improvement happen. Themes include getting the most out of the Green Deal and Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) and will be illustrated by case studies. This zone will also cover effective refurbishment strategies at individual property, neighbourhood and community level.
Key themes• Commercial and domestic refurbishment and retrofit solutions
• Taking advantage of the Green Deal• Profiting from the ECO• Individual versus neighbourhood solutions
• Demolish or refurbish – the impact of minimum EPC standards for 2018
Energy
The future of energy is another hot topic for Ecobuild 2014. The Energy zone will champion key issues and provide guidance and practical advice on policy and legislation. This area will include a range of features on renewable energy, resource management and energy efficiency.
Content zone includes: Green Energy BackgroundThe Green Energy zone will offer advice on providing low and zero-carbon energy. It will cover incentives, including the recently announced domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), as well as the effective specification of the different forms of renewable energy – heat pumps, solar thermal, photovoltaics (PV), biomass and combined heat and power – at building and community level. Energy storage and emerging technologies will also be covered.
Key themes• Leveraging the RHI• Feed-in tariff• Specifying heat pumps• Specifying biomass• Specifying PV
Ecobuild 2014 will see the return of two hugely popular features: Practical Installer and the Solar Hub. Practical Installer will once again bring together the industry’s leading manufacturers to give live demonstrations and installation advice on solar thermal and heat pumps, as well as explaining key aspects of Green Deal assessments and the domestic RHI. Our flagship Solar Hub features seminars and practical demonstrations covering all aspects of the solar PV market in the UK.

Who will you meet?
Ecobuild remains a key event both for us and for the wider PV market, as it is such a great showcase for new and existing products, brands and services. Ecobuild is always a great forum for meeting new customers, existing customers and manufacturers. The whole event had a fantastic vibe about it and we look forward to next year’s Ecobuild.
Kim Mann, Chief Operating Officer, Krannich Solar
Connecting Future Cities The new Connecting Future Cities area will incorporate a range of topics from biodiversity and greening cities to infrastructure, water and waste, technology and transport – all of which are crucial to create a sustainable future for an ever growing global population. Almost half of the world’s population currently lives in cities and by 2050 that is projected to increase to 75% – but what will the city of the future look like?
Content zones include: Future CitiesBackgroundThe creation of sustainable communities where people can live, work and get around with minimal impact on the environment is critical to the survival of our species. The Future Cities zone will cover the most effective ways of delivering sustainable communities including green and blue infrastructure, transport, energy networks and smart cities technology. It will also look at ways of improving existing cities.
Key themes• Regeneration• Smart cities• Resilience• Transport• Green infrastructure
Water, Waste and MaterialsBackgroundAs energy use in buildings goes down, the impact of the materials used to construct them becomes more important. This zone will include design strategies to minimise the production of waste, how to reduce and manage this on site and the effective reuse and recycling of leftover materials. Reducing water use in buildings is important in a water-constrained world and the zone will also cover water management, sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDs) and water-sensitive design.
Key themes• Designing out waste• Design for reuse• Site waste minimisation and management• Water-sensitive design addressing water shortage, flooding and pollution• Responsible sourcing
