EVENT RECAP

february funIn February love was in the air! We had the crowning of our King and Queen Bill and Shirley Bush. Runners-up were Bill and Ombra Hughes. We had a great Valentine Party with Scotty G.

THIS MONTH’S silver starTHIS MONTH’S SILVER STAR IS JEAN REEVES

Congratulations to our April Silver Star, Jean Reeves. Jean was born in Electra, Texas, on Nov. 9, 1926. Jean grew up and spent most of her childhood in Pampa, Texas. Jean met her husband, Leon, at 18 years old, at Zales Jewelry Store, while she was arranging jewelry, watches and diamonds. He looked through the window and saw the most beautiful jewel of all and wanted to meet her. Six months later, Jean and Leon were married in March of 1945. Later that year, Leon was shipped to California for World War II, but the war was almost over. That next year in 1946 their first child was born. They moved around for 10 years until they finally settled in Odessa, Texas. They were builders in the Midland/Odessa area. The couple lived in the same home for 43 years. In the late ’80s, they retired and started to travel. Hawaii, Alaska and Switzerland are just a few places they enjoyed. Jean and Leon had three children — one son and two daughters. Jean’s husband Leon passed away in April 2015, at the age of 97. They were married for 70 years. Jean’s daughters, Jo Anne and Shan, visit often. She raised very thoughtful and sweet girls, and she is very proud of them and they are of her. Jean loves hummingbirds and has a beautiful painting in her apartment that she painted herself. She loves to paint, and I myself love to paint with her. Jean has lived here since 2015, and we are so happy she calls Garden Estates of Tyler her home.

KEEP ACTIVE with these activities

• Carry on a daily routine as much as possible.

• Stay connected with family and friends by telephone, writing them a letter or email, or by using social media.

• Keep physically active as much as you can. Take advantage of the limited walks when possible, get up and walk around your apartment, and do simple seated stretches.

• Use this time as an opportunity: Read that book you’ve been wanting to get to, work on your favorite crafting project or hobby, take on a puzzle (Try the ones here in the newsletter!), start a journal, or learn something new.

• Unleash your inner artist with coloring pages or take up drawing or sketching.

• Organize something you’ve put off, such as that pile of papers, a drawer or shelf.

• Listen to your favorite music.

• If it’s possible, use your TV’s streaming service to catch up on some classic movies or one of those popular TV shows everyone’s talking about.

• Use your tablet or computer and research some topics you’ve always been interested in, learn some phrases in a foreign language, watch a YouTube tutorial or TED talk, or just laugh at some animal videos!

• Above all, maintain a positive attitude. You have likely coped with difficult situations before, and be reassured that you will cope with this current situation as well.

THIS MONTH’S heart heroHOSPITALITY, EXCELLENCE, APPRECIATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK

Congratulations to our April HEART Hero STEPHANIE MARTINEZ. Stephanie was born May 9, 1998, in Jacksonville, Texas. She grew up there and went to Jacksonville High School, “Home of the Indians,” and graduated in 2016. Stephanie is not married, but has had a steady boyfriend, Dylan Sexton, for four years. She has two younger sisters and two fur babies, Boomer and Bryce, whom she loves with all her heart. Stephanie’s hobbies include drawing, painting, puzzles and playing all kinds of instruments. She got the chance to travel with the Tyler Junior College wind ensemble to many different states. Her favorite was performing at the World War II Memorial. Stephanie has worked at Garden Estates of Tyler for three years and has a smile that can light up a room. We are so blessed to have her on our team at Garden Estates of Tyler.
