Jesus

receives the cross

So they took Jesus, and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew

is called Golgotha. (John 19:17, NRSV)

Jesus

falls for the first time

He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole. (Isaiah 53:5, NRSV)

women of Jerusalem

A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were

beating their breasts and wailing to him. But Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for

Jesusfalls for the third time

Jesusis buried in the tombJoseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and went away.  (Matthew 27:60, NRSV)

Jesusrises from the

place of death

God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for

him to be held in its power. (Acts 2:24, NRSV)

Jesus said, "Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things
