Willkommen zum Bar Convent Berlin (BCB), der am 10. und 11. Oktober 2011 seinen 5. Ge-burtstag feiert! Der Treffpunkt der deutschen und europäischen Barszene überrascht zu sei-nem ersten Jubiläum einmal mehr mit einem vergrößerten Angebot. Aus einer spontanen Idee 2007 ins Leben gerufen, stehen 5 Jahre Bar Convent heute auch für das Erwachsen-werden einer Branche. Die Bar ist Profession und ihre Ausübung Genußkultur. Die rund 4.500 Fachbesucher, die wir dieses Jahr erwarten, werden sich in Vorträgen internationaler Exper-ten, Cocktaildemonstrationen, Tastings und bei der Präsentation neuer Marken wieder vom un-aufhaltsamen Fortschritt unserer Branche über-zeugen können. In Barkreisen inzwischen als „Bartender’s Christmas“ gefeiert, freut sich der BCB sehr da-rüber, erstmals auch ein Gastland begrüßen zu dürfen. Bartender aus Polen werden an der „Bar Poland“ die Cocktailkultur ihres Landes präsentieren, während der Vorsitzende des pol-nischen Vodkaverbandes, Leszek Wiwala, in einem Vortrag Einblicke in die Spirituosenkultur seines Landes geben wird (S. 8). Den Eröff-nungsvortrag zum Bar Convent wird dazu kein geringerer als der Autor des Buches „Über das Trinken“ und FAZ-Feuilletonchef Peter Richter halten. Wir freuen uns auf zwei spannende Tage Barkultur und bedanken uns bei allen Ausstel-lern und Besuchern für ihre Treue!

Welcome to Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) and its 5th anniversary on October 10th and 11th 2011! The gathering of the German and European bar scene is celebrating its first jubilee with an increased of-fering. Launched in 2007 and born out of a spon-taneous idea Bar Convent has grown up as has the industry it serves as a platform for. Bar is a profession and practicing bar means living a cul-ture of enjoyment. We’re expecting around 4’500 trade visitors this year, who will be able to witness the progress of our industry in lectures by inter-national experts, cocktail demonstrations, tast-ings and the presentation of new brands and products. Celebrated as “Bartender’s Christmas” by its visitors, Bar Convent is extremely happy to wel-come a host country for the first time. Well-known bartenders from Poland will be presenting the cocktail culture of their country at “Bar Poland”, while the chairman of the Polish Vodka Associa-tion, Leszek Wiwala, will give insights into the culture of his country’s liquor world (S. 8). Last but not least the keynote address, the opening speech of Bar Convent Berlin, will be held by no less than the author of the book “About Drinking” („Über das Trinken“) and chef de feuilleton of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Peter Richter. We look forward to two exciting days of bar culture and want to thank all exhibitors and visitors for their loyalty and support!

Der heutige Berliner Ostbahnhof wurde 1842 in Betrieb genommen. Ab 1907 begann man, ein separates Bahnpostamt zu errichten, das aus einem Postdienstgebäude und einem Postbahnhof bestand. Das 3.000 qm große, monumentale Gebäu-de hat klare Linien und eine schlichte, dunkel geklinkerte Fassade im Stil der märkischen Backsteingotik. Im Obergeschoss erhellen große Fenster und Oberlichter die knapp 1.800 qm große, leicht gerundete Mehr-zweckhalle. In dieser Halle befinden sich Aussteller flächen des BCB. Weitere Aussteller sind im Erdgeschoss un-tergebracht. Dort befinden sich auch Semi-narbühnen, die BCB-Shops und das Taste Forum. In den ehemaligen Postverladehallen nebenan, in denen jeweils mehrere hundert Personen Platz finden, wird der Hauptteil des Seminar Programms des Bar Convent Berlin über die Bühne gehen.

The venue hosting Bar Convent Berlin 2009, Berlin’s Postbahnhof, was built in 1907. It is located right next to Ostbahnhof station (East Station), which is one of the largest public transport hubs in Berlin. The monu-mental Postbahnhof building which covers 3000 m ², is an architectural masterpiece of clear lines featuring a simple, red-brick fa-cade in Brick Gothic style. The building’s 1800 m² first floor area, the so-called Gleishalle (Track Hall), is illuminated by over-head lights and large windows.This gently-curved room accommodates one of Bar Convent’s exhibitor areas.More exhibitor space can be found at the ground floor, next to seminar stages, the BCB shops and the Taste Forum. In the for-mer mail-loading halls next to the main build-ing you’ll find the majority of BCB’s seminar programme.Two large rooms in this area provide ample space for several hundred guests.

Die Bar als sakraler Ort? Der Martini Cock-tail als Anbetungssymbol? Der Bartender als Hohepriester der flüssigen Erleuchtung und Wächter über Maß und Tugend? Eine Installation des bekannten Offenburger Künstler Stefan Strumbel nähert sich an den zwei Veranstaltungstagen des Bar Convent Berlin dieser Frage auf „ironische-spielerische“ Art. Germeinsam mit dem Bar Convent Berlin präsentiert Stefan Strumbel „Die heilige Bar“. Zu finden ist die Installation im Erdgeschoss des Bar Convent Berlin am Standplatz M 05.

Is the bar a sacred place? Can the marti-ni cocktail be seen as an icon worth worship-ping? Can bartenders serve as high priest of liquid enlightenment and can they be guardians of measure and virtue? An instal-lation by well-known German artist Ste-fan Strumbel will explore these questions at Bar Convent Berlin in an ironic and playful way. Together with Bar Convent Berlin Ste-fan Strumbel presents “The holy bar.”You can find the installation on the ground floor of Bar Convent Berlin at stand M 05.

Stefan Strumbel, geboren 1979 in Offenburg, startete 1993 als Straßenkünstler mit Graffitis und Wandgemälden. Im Bestreben, eine eigene künstlerische Sprache zu entwickeln, begann er später, traditionelle Symbole seiner Heimat Schwarzwald mit den Techniken der Straße zu bearbeiten. Zentrales Element in Strumbels Schaffen ist der Begriff „Heimat“.

Zum ersten Mal präsentiert sich auf dem Bar Convent Berlin ein Gastland – Polen stellt seit Gründung des Bar Convent im Jahr 2007 eine der größten Besuchergruppen, daher drängte sich die Wahl unseres Nachbarlandes bei die-ser Premiere geradezu auf. Die Spirituosen-tradition Polens hat ihren Kern traditionell in erster Linie in der Spirituose Vodka. Kaum ein Land bietet so eine Vielfalt unterschiedlicher Destillate und Liköre auf der Basis des klaren Brandes aus Getreide oder Kartoffeln. An der „Bar Poland“ mischen bekannte polnische Bartender aus Breslau und Warschau Drinks mit den Produkten wichtiger polnischer Pro-duzenten und geben Einblick in die flüssige Vielfalt ihres Heimatlandes. Die Bar Poland finden Sie an Stand M01 im Eingangsbereich des BCB im Erdgeschoss.

It is for the first time that Bar Convent Berlin presents a host country. As Polish visitors have been one of the largest visitor groups since BCB started in 2007, the choice of our neighboring country for this premiere was only natural. The liquor tradition of Poland has its core primarily in the spirit category vodka. Hardly any country offers such a va-riety of different spirits and liqueurs on the basis of vodka from grain or potatoes. At “Bar Poland” well-known Polish bartenders from Wrocław and Warsaw will mix drinks with products from important Polish pro-ducers and will give insight into the liquid variety of their home country.ou will find Bar Poland close to the entrance of Bar Con-vent on the ground floor at stand M01.

Nicht nur der Bar Convent Berlin feiert 2011 sein fünftes Jubiläum. Auch die Mixology Bar Awards des offiziellen Partner-Mediums des Bar Convents, Mixology Magazin, finden dieses Jahr zum fünften Mal statt. Was im Jahr 2007 auf einer Bühne des Bar Convents startete, erlebte letztes Jahr mit fast 1.000 Teilnehmern im Berliner Goya einen neuen, rauschenden Höhepunkt. Auch dieses Jahr sind alle Bar Convent Besucher wieder herz-lich eingeladen, am Abend des 11. Oktober 2011 im Berliner Goya der Verleihung der begehrten Auszeichnungen beizuwohnen. Das Ticket für den Bar Convent Berlin be-rechtigt auch zum Eintritt bei den Mixology Bar Awards. Wer nur die Awards besuchen möchte, kann direkt im Goya an der Abend-kasse noch Eintrittskarten erwerben.

It will also be for the fifth time that the Mixology Bar Awards are bestowed upon the best bars and bar-tenders in this business. What started at a Bar Convent stage in 2007 culminated in a huge celebration last year with almost 1’000 industry people attending. Visitors of Bar Convent Berlin are invited to join the celebra-tion again on the evening of October 11th at Goya Berlin. Tickets of BCB will also be valid for the award show. und die Tiefgarage, die rund um die Uhr geöffnet ist,

über 250 Stellplätze ( Gebühr: 1 € /h oder 4 € /T ).

—— To get to Ostbahnhof from airport Tegel please take

the express bus TXL that gets you to Alexanderplatz.

Here you’ll have to switch to one of the rapid-transit

trains S5, S7, S75 or S9 and get off two stations later.

If you arrive at airport Schönefeld just take S9, which

departs directly from the airport and gets you straight

to Ostbahnhof.

—— Travel to Ostbahnhof with rapid-transit trains S3, S5,

S7, S75 and S9 or with regional, national or longdi-

stance trains of Deutsche Bahn.

—— Approach to Ostbahnhof with busses 140, 347, 147,

240, 142.

—— Taxi stands are located in front of Ostbahnhof.

—— In front of the main entrance of Ostbahnhof you’ll

find a roofless parking lot and basement garage. The

parking lot offers 115 car spaces ( fee: 1 € per hour ) and

the garage holds 250 spots ( fee: 1 € per hour or 4 € a

day ). Both are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
