Prayer Reflection—The Nativity of St. John the Baptist “…Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.” – ACTS 13:25 Stewardship is a lifestyle, it’s not a program or a process. It’s how we are called to live our lives twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week! It challenges us to live “God-centered” lives, not “self-centered” lives. Reflect on your daily activities, do you do them for the glory of God or for the glory of your own name?

Catechism of the Catholic Church

Pastoral Articles

The liturgy is the public act of worship given to God by the

mystical body of Christ. As social beings, public worship is the

necessary means by which we honor God. The principal forms of

public worship are the sacrifice of the Mass (a representation of

Christ’s eternal sacrifice), the sacraments, the Divine Office

(liturgy of the hours), and the sacramentals authorized by the

Church.

Rite refers to the manner of observing the act of worship. It is

sometimes used to refer to the liturgy according to some definite

language and custom. “Rite may also designate in a narrow sense

some particular liturgical ceremony; in this way we have the rite

of baptism, etc.” (My Catholic Faith, pg. 111). Currently, the

terms liturgy and rite are used interchangeably and

indiscriminately. Liturgy now refers to the rite of Holy Mass.

Christ makes present His own Paschal mystery in the liturgy of

the Church. The real, historical event known as the Paschal

mystery (where Christ died, was buried, rose from the dead, and

was seated at the right hand of the Father) happened once for all.

But the event is unique in that it cannot remain only in the past,

because by dying He destroyed death. Jesus shed His own blood

for the redemption of all people, which gave us a path to heaven.

This redemptive sacrifice atones for all sins for all times. All that

Jesus did and suffered participates in the divine eternity which

transcends all times while being made present in them all.

We express our response to God’s call to discipleship and give

glory and honor to God both communally and individually with

the help of the liturgies of the Church.

Next week we will review what the Catechism has to say about

the Holy Spirit’s role in the liturgy.

Keeping Up With the Saints

(TLM)=Traditional Latin Mass

Feast Day June 29

The early Church had great reverence for the Twelve Apostles who were eye witnesses of the life of Jesus Christ. They knew that the Church was “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone” (Ephesians 2:20). Most were venerated in the place of their martyrdom, so Saints Peter and Paul were both venerated in Rome. Both were martyred during the persecution of the Emperor Nero (54-68). St. Peter was crucified upside down and St. Paul was beheaded. Within 100-200 years after their death we have evidence of a liturgical feast on June 29. The Entrance Antiphon of Mass says, “These are the ones who...planted the Church with their blood...and became friends of God.” Ask God for the strength always to boldly live out your faith.

Let God be the strength of your marriage. Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends are July 20-22 in Madison, WI; Sept. 7-9 in Geneva, IL or Oct. 19-21 in Brookfield, WI. Visit our website at: alifetimeoflove.org or call

Feast Day June 24 The Birth of St. John the Baptist is one of only three births that we celebrate liturgically (the other two are Jesus and the Blessed Mother). He famously said of Jesus, “He must increase, I must decrease.” Reflect upon this phrase today and ask yourself if your life points to the Lord or to your

own wants.
