Hello, my name is Picón and I used to work with my owner in

these forests. He loaded my saddlebags and we carried the

charcoal into the city. In the past, these pathways were dangerous

and scary because many travellers were assaulted and stolen all their money and belongings. This is the reason why this pathway has such

a name: Cuesta de la Traición.

Is there any difference between charcoal

and coal?

Which one comes from

the slow burning of

certain wood or is a mineral from a mine?

Which one was used

for cooking and heating

or for the industry?

These are ripplemarks. They are sedimentary structures that were

shaped by the agitation of sea waves. They are very old: between 250

and 500 million years old, from the Paleozoic.

This was a secondary pathway in Roman times. It was used for the

transportation of minerals from local mines into the city. The pathway

entered the city through the Praetorian Gate. It gave access to the cardo (main street going North-South

in a Roman city). For this reason it was later named as Vereda del Pretorio.
