Recent survey by Career.ru: 80% of Russians would like to get their education outside of Russia. Forbes Women survey July 2017: 64% of top-managers in Russia would like to send their child to study abroad. 20% of them do it. barriers

The demand for education abroad constantly increased in Russia in 1994-2013. But there is a dramatic drop in numbers of boarding and language schools’ students in 2014-2017, at least for 50%. The reasons of the decrease: 1.  Currency exchange rate change, which has made the foreign education 2

more expensive for Russians, too expensive even for middle class.

2.  The government people are not allowed to send their children to study abroad.

3.  The government active anti-promotion in mass-media of studying abroad.

4.  Decrease of international business and presence of international companies in Russia

> as a consequence decrease of interest and positive attitude of employers based in Russia to foreign certificates / diplomas

> less opportunities for Russian students to put into practice a foreign diploma / qualification.

5.  Political and safety situations in Europe.

Therefore agencies suffer from losing business and have to rely on Universities’ support, as commission raise and marketing investments.

Internet is one of the most effective promotional tools in Russia and CIS.

More than 33% of new university students make their decision when choosing the uni and the assisting educational agency through search engines Yandex and Google.

Social networks are also good. BUT the weight of VK network is by times higher than FB.

Public schools are not allowed to promote foreign educational institutions!

AcademConsult resources for NEW UNIVERSITY STUDENTS in 2016-2015:

HOW RUSSIANS CHOOSE UNIVERSITIES: Rankings - criteria # 1 when students from Russia choose a higher educational institution. Forbes Women 2017: 65% of parents take as a main criteria the ranking. There must be clear designations of any rankings where the educational institution is introduced. Immigration policy and job market – criteria # 2. To compare to 2000-2012, when the international experience mattered, now many Russian parents want their children to legally stay and work after their diploma in another country. Tuition costs – criteria # 3. Word of mouth – 55% of students choosing the university and the agency consider recommendations of their friends.
