Early Life George Herman Ruth Jr.
was born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland.
His parents were George Herman and Kate Ruth.
He was the oldest of 8 children; 6 deceased before childhood.
Ruth was sent to St. Mary’s Industrial School for boys in 1902, at the age of 7.

olds. At the age of 12, he was playing with 16 year
olds. He was on varsity at the age of 16. Natural born Hitter
Early Baseball Career
Brother Matthias was his mentor.
Brother Gilbert contacted Jack Dunn, Orioles owner.
Jack Dunn became Ruth’s guardian.
The Boston Red Sox bought Ruth for $2,900 in 1914.

In his career with the Red Sox, he had 87 wins and 44 losses
Won three World Series- 1916 and twice in 1918
Sold him to the Yankees for $125,000
Late Baseball Career

In1927 Ruth and Lou Gehrig were named ‘The Greatest home-run hitting duo’ in baseball.
Ruth came up with the ‘called-shot’ home-run hit.
Yankees traded him to the Braves in 1935, but was released that June.

In 1927 Ruth hit sixty homeruns in one season.
Record was broken by Roger Maris, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds.
He also set a record of 714 career homeruns.

Ruth was known for his party lifestyle and outside charities.
He was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
