Manager of Local Economic Opportunities

East Scarborough Storefront is a unique approach to community development; we leverage the power of collaboration to support people and build community. Storefront staff act as a bridge, catalyst and facilitator between and among community members, services and resources
The Position
Purpose: To develop and implement creative, innovative and collaborative strategies to improve local economic opportunities for residents and businesses of the Kingston Galloway/Orton Park community; to ensure that the implementation of strategies are in compliance with and make the best use of government and other funding frameworks that support the work.
The specific responsibilities for this position include:
Economic Opportunity Strategy Implementation:
Using The Storefront approach to community development to leverage and connect the assets and resources to enhance local economic wellbeing and resiliency
Leading a process whereby resident skills and economic opportunities are connected Playing a facilitative and supportive role to a network of government representatives,
non-profit groups and business leaders (Inclusive Local Economies Network) and help them to work collectively and strategically to improve local economic wellbeing
Nurturing new and innovative employment and business opportunities for residents Helping local businesses to work collaboratively and strategically to improve both
individual business viability and economic resiliency within the community Developing written materials that demonstrate how the Storefront's economic
development work is affecting people's lives
Employment Support Management:
Ensuring Employment Resource Centre is a welcoming and effective resource to residents seeking employment or business development supports
Ensuring that residents are connected with employment opportunities appropriately using government incentives and programs in a proactive and responsible manner
Ensuring that the funder based employment database (CaMs) is kept current and accurate at all times
Ensuring that all documentation is accurate and in compliance with relevant contractual and legislative requirements
Developing funding proposals, funding reports and funder recognition materials as required
Supervision:
Ensuring that the Local Economic Opportunities team is staffed with knowledgeable, enthusiastic, organized and welcoming staff, students and volunteers
Supporting staff to do their best work by ensuring: regular and productive supervision sessions, constant communication regarding policies and procedures and their impact on the work, annual aspiration driven performance reviews, interactive and open staff meetings and intentional learning opportunities
Learning and Sharing
Playing an active role in Storefront's learning agenda, reflecting, documenting and analysing The Storefront's economic development work
Ensuring that the entire team works within an evaluation framework that actively moves the work of the circle forward in a positive direction
Qualifications:
At minimum of two years demonstrated experience in a leadership role: both leading a staff team and facilitating networks
Demonstrated ability to both think and act strategically and pay attention to detail Relevant post secondary education and experience related to economic
development in a community context Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to initiate and implement innovative
projects to address complex issues Knowledge of issues, trends and legislation pertaining to employment and labour
market research Ability to motivate others to try new approaches to creating local economic
change Understanding of the benefits of using collaboration to enhance economic
wellbeing Flexibility to perform a wide variety of tasks Excellent verbal and written English communication skills Strengths in collaborating within a team environment
