Albany for seniors trip Albany’s famous attractions are on the agenda for the City of Gosnells’ Seniors Regional Trip in 2014. The trip, which is an annual feature on the City’s seniors calendar, provides an opportunity for seniors to travel to regional Western Australia and use their free travel vouchers. This year’s trip is scheduled for 15 to 19 September. Open to all seniors residing in the City of Gosnells, the trip will include many sightseeing tours such as The Gap, Natural Bridge, Strawberry Hill, the Princess Royal Fortress and Old Gaol, Patrick Taylor Cottage, Brig Amity and a whale watching experience. Seniors are required to pay for their accommodation and meals on the trip. Nestled in the Perth foothills, Ellis Brook Valley opens up this possibility to everyone, including those who rely on wheelchairs or gofers to get around because of its Easy Walk Trail. The Easy Walk Trail is a 500 metre cemented earth loop trail through Wandoo Woodland providing a suitable surface for wheelchairs, aids to mobility and parents with prams. Your brain matters Keeping your brain healthy is important at any age, so come along to the City of Gosnells’ Brain Matters workshop and discover five simple steps to assist you to improve brain health and reduce the risk of developing dementia. Held at the Addie Mills Centre, Gosnells at 2.30pm on Tuesday 29 April, the program will run for one hour and will be followed by question time. This is a free event, however bookings are essential. Volunteers needed to preserve local history The historic Wilkinson Homestead Museum in the City of Gosnells is looking for volunteers to join its efforts in preserving and promoting local history. In particular, the team at Wilkinson Homestead Museum is looking for people who love working with children and explaining how things worked before electricity and iPads. The school program delivered at Wilkinson Homestead Museum provides a wonderful way for volunteers to share the past with a new generation. School groups learn about the once thriving orchard region, what school was like in the early days, how things worked before microwave ovens and computers and then have the chance to participate in hands on activities such as old-fashioned craft. If you enjoy working with children or want to keep the City’s past alive, please contact the Museum Curator Sarah de Bueger on 9490 1575. BiG Event - Networking For this month’s business networking evening we’re going dancing. Learn some Latin, salsa, swing, ceroc, zouk and zumba moves courtesy of Jenny at the Jus’ Dance studio. Date: Wednesday 16 April Time: 5.30pm - 8pm Venue: Jus’ Dance, 1984 Albany Highway, Maddington. This is a free event however registrations are essential for catering purposes.
