The purpose of this document is to provide clear and actionable guidance, within the school environment for the • Safe operation• Prevention • Early detection• Control of COVID-19
The transmission of COVID-19 is still relevant in all contexts, and at GIC it is our duty and responsibility to encourage staff, parents and students to become advocates for disease prevention and control by talking to others about how to prevent the spread of viruses. Maintaining safe school operations requires us to follow guidelines from both the Sri Lankan Government Health Authority as well as the recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Student ‘bubbles’ are set groups of children and staff designed to keep close contact between students and members of staff to a minimum. Children within school will not be mixing with other ‘bubbles’ and neither will staff.Arrival and collection times have been scheduled to ensure limited contact. Please do not get out of cars and congregate in the main entrance. Please check your child’s temperature before coming to school. A temperature of 38 degrees or above is considered unsafe and the child should stay home.Children who have been sick for whatever reason should remain home for a minimum of 3 days following symptoms.

Galle International College- Stay Safe –Health & Safety Protocol – June 2020
COVID-19The Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our time and thegreatest challenge we have faced since World War Two. Since its emergence in Asia late lastyear, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica.
COVID-19 is much more than a health crisis. We are in uncharted territory. This situation canbe minimised by focusing on the below approaches:
• Public health measures, such as rapid identification• Diagnosis and management of the cases
• Identification and follow up of the contacts• Infection prevention and control in health care settings
• Implementation of health measures for travellers• Awareness-raising in the population and risk communication

Hand Washing Procedure
This is the NHS COVID 19 recommended hand washing procedure.
Please ensure your children understand this and can follow this procedure at school.
6
ESTABLISHED PROTOCOLS
• The following protocols are in place to protect all members of our community.
• It is important that the procedures are followed accordingly.
• The Primary and Kindergarten students will be grouped and have set classroom times. Please ensure you arrive and collect at the appropriate time.
• The school feels all Primary and Senior students need to be in school daily. Due to the size of our rooms and numbers of children, social distancing in the classroom requires us to split the groups. You will be informed of the times. We aim to co-ordinate siblings and friendship groups as far as possible.
• PLEASE BE AWARE! IF THERE IS A POSITIVE CONFIRMED CASE WITHIN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY, THE SCHOOL WILL CLOSE IMMEDIATELY AND YOU WILL BE INFORMED OF PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW.
