He inspires and creates; He impresses and motivates; He builds up and renews. Our God is so great and praiseworthy! Of course, you are probably wondering why I am speaking of God with such expression? The answer is because I am constantly reminded that I serve the Living God! He is alive and well, and loves me and you. We have ample reason in that alone to praise Him. I'm reminded of that great, but short, command from Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:16 to "Rejoice always". Though it's such a small verse, it sends such a powerful message to the believer in Christ. It's our motivation for the day! So I can and should rejoice because the great Maker of heaven and earth has redeemed me from the wages of sin and death. I have been made alive through Him who died. In Henry Blackaby's book, entitled, 'Experiencing God', he lists seven realities of God. He explains them by stating how "God is always at work around you". Now I read this some years ago. But this is just as fresh to me now as it was then. God IS at work all around us. This IS so because He lives! This IS good news because I can pray, as an individual, about how to join Him in His work. God is always seeking those who are available. He IS always willing to use somebody. As we enter into the month of July together, let us praise Him. Also, let us be in prayer about how He might use us, and what, in particular, He might have us to do for His name and His glory. Remember, God is always at work around us. My family and I send you our love and prayers as we tarry on in the Lord. We are so grateful for our church family at Brush Creek Baptist Church! In Christ, Pastor Frank God is always at work around you. ~ Henry Blackaby

Symbols for the Folds of the American Flag

The first fold is a symbol of life.

The second fold is for our belief in eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of theveteran departing rank, who gave a portion of his or her life forthe defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold stands for our weaker nature; as Americancitizens trusting in God, it’s to Him we turn to in times of peaceas well as war for his divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to America. In the words of StephenDecatur, “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may shealways be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong.”

The sixth fold is where our heart lies. It’s with our flag that wepledge allegiance to the flag and the republic it stands for.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our armed forces. For it is thearmed forces that protect our country and flag against enemies, whether they be domestic or foreign.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into thevalley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day,and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it is through theirfaith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the menand women who have made this country great have beenmolded.

The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for He has given his sonsand daughters for the defense of our country since he or she wasfirst born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents thelower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon andglorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, representsan emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God theFather, the Son and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded, which some consider the13th fold; the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our nationalmotto, “In God We Trust.”

Reflectionsby Frances Gilmore

We celebrate Independence Day in various ways, oneof which is remembering the people who have made atremendous impact on our nation and lives.

I appreciate our forefathers. I appreciate JohnHancock for not merely signing the Declaration ofIndependence but for bravely signing so big and bold as if tosay, “Our nation’s Independence will prevail!” GeorgeWashington was our first President, but we also remember thestory of him cutting down a cherry tree and learn the lesson thatwe should never tell a lie. I appreciate Abraham Lincoln, our16 President, who as a young farm boy, educated himself byth

reading borrowed books. Many students learn to recite hisfamous Gettysburg Address of 1863.

I appreciate the musicians and lyricists. I think aboutJulia Ward Howe for writing the Battle Hymn of the Republic. The words were written on what her eyes and ears relayed to hermind of what was happening in the world around her. This wasthe most important song of the Union army during the CivilWar. How would you feel if you were marching in an army andsang along with the other soldiers… “Mine eyes have seen theglory of the coming of the Lord?” Can you relate it to ourmodern world? Music can speak to the heart when nothingelse can!

I appreciate D. L. Moody’s legacy as an evangelist andpreacher. North Carolina’s own native, Billy Graham and hisfamily, are leaving a remarkable legacy also, not only in ournation, but all over the world. The ones who try to teach usabout God and Jesus are worthy of our deep respect and honorgiven them.

As we celebrate July 4 , we should remember that weth

have many freedoms that other countries do not - - freedom ofspeech, freedom to listen to music & radio, to watch TV, andfreedom to worship, to name just a few. None of these shouldbe taken for granted.

God has blessed our nation and has guided us throughmany conflicts since the Declaration of Independence wassigned 241 years ago. Scripture says, “Blessed is the nationwhose God is the Lord.” (Psalm 33;12). We should reflect onwhat this means as we celebrate the holiday and continue to prayfor our nation, our leaders and those who impact ourcommunities.

“Dear Jesus, thank You for blessing our nation. Guide usthrough the years ahead. Thank you for “freedom” and theprice You paid to set us free from sin and death.”
