Hello Everyone. Welcome to TERM 2! We have another action-packed term coming up and it all starts with our annual Cross Country Carnival this Friday. More details inside the newsletter. A few reminders for the coming term –

1. Please ensure children are in complete full school uniform each day. If you need any help with uniforms please contact the office.

2. Absences are a big departmental target this year under the Wellbeing banner. If your child is absent for any reason at all we must be contacted by phone, email, skoolbag, etc, with an explanation as soon as possible.

3. Parking and safe driving around the school and in carparks. CRUCIAL! Safety first! Please BE PATIENT! We were back for only one day yesterday and I’ve already had complaints about driver behaviour on De Chair Avenue. Please BE PATIENT!

4. Our calendar is quickly filling for Term 2, please keep an eye on the website calendar and the newsletter calendar as well so you don’t miss any important dates and events.

5. Our P&C will be running a Mother’s Day stall on Wednesday 5th of May. More information soon. 6. If your child is sick, please keep them at home, if they have any new or updated medical needs please

inform the office as soon as possible. Thank you to our wonderful staff for a wonderful end of term Billy Cart Derby day. It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents back at school events. More of the same to come this term.

Take care please. Remind your kids everyday how special they are and how much you love them! Hug the ones you love and hold on for an extra second or two, it makes a world of difference. Mr Mehmet

LAST DAY of TERM

Communication There are many forms of communication at Springwood Public School to inform our community. The main form and most direct is the SKOOLBAG App. Information attached.

The school website is the next place to look for information, which can be found at – www.springwoodpublicschool.com

You are also able to email the school at – [email protected] The good old fashion phone number is – 4751 1333 We also have a Twitter account where we announce events with photos - @SPS_placetobe

Some of the class teachers run a DOJO account for direct messages to parents. You will be notified by the classroom teacher if this is the case for your child. Most importantly for communication, please ensure that your contact details are always kept up to date by notifying the office as soon as possible. This goes for address, phone numbers, emergency contact details, most recent court orders, most up to date medical needs of your children and any changes to pick up details or if you are running late, etc.

We will be celebrating National Simultaneous Reading Day Wednesday 19th May 2021.

Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes,

bookshops and many other places around the country. We would like to invite parents, grandparents, carers and any family members to come and

celebrate reading in the classroom. The story this year is Give Me Some Space by Philip Bunting

There will be a parade of costumes, the theme is “Space” The children are asked to come dressed in costume, some ideas –

as an alien, Star Wars character or astronaut. We will be holding a Book Fair in the library,

all purchases the school receives 30% commission It is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy,

using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

More information about the day will be sent out soon.

Regards Pauline Millar – Teacher Librarian

FROM THE YOGA ROOM

Kids Yoga will be returning to school Week 2 of Term 2, Tuesday mornings 8-9. All ages from K-6. Bookings taken now for this term. Learning to keep ourselves healthy and well-balanced is a big job – one that Yoga addresses beautifully. Yoga is more than just exercise. You don’t have to be at all sporty or bendy like a pretzel person. It is non-competitive! Through postures (asana and movement), breathwork (pranayama), mindfulness, relaxation, meditation, stories, sharing and games, our kids learn to love and respect themselves, each other and the beautiful planet on which we live (all whilst having fun!) We learn not just to keep the physical body healthy, but how to manage our emotions (like calming our fears and managing stress) and our energy through these changing times. These are important tools that are useful forever, for life, throughout its changes and challenges, through good times and those not so good! (Couldn’t we all use these skills right now?) If you or your child is interested or for more information about joining our fun classes please email Carly at [email protected] or Phone 0413 904 918

‘Intention to apply for Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2022’

For metropolitan/regional applicants

Dear Parent/Carer,

Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and high potential students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. Successful students will usually have to leave their current school to enrol in a school with an opportunity class for Years 5 and 6.

Testing and assessment

Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. Students who wish to be considered for opportunity class placement will sit the Opportunity Class Placement Test on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

How to apply

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2022, you need to apply between Tuesday 20 April 2021 and Friday 7 May 2021. You will need to access the online application at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 . You must not use the child’s email address.

If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team (1300 880 367) for assistance after Tuesday 20 April 2021.

You must submit only ONE application for each student.

Important – the school cannot apply on your behalf.

Yours sincerely
