Thank you for another wonderful term at Kanwal Public
School. In general our students demonstrate great
respect in everything they are asked to do. Rewarding
students with “Craigies“ is a small acknowledgement of
their great effort. On Friday we celebrate their effort with
activities chosen from the PBL Reward Menu. Items have
different values and over 200 will participate in the
rewards day. Well Done !!
Excursions
3-6 grades have/are participating in their annual
excursions. These are experiences that take students
from the classroom into direct learning environments and
create great memories for our students.
Year 5 Camp
Students and staff experienced an enjoyable and
challenging time at camp. Valuable lessons are learnt
when considering risk and placing trust in others to
ensure you can accomplish new tasks and demonstrate
the skills required.
Thank you to the year 5 teachers for giving their time to
support our students.
Year 6 Canberra Excursion
Our students are currently enjoying their much
anticipated trip. This is the culmination of units of work
studied in class and evokes a sense of National pride
when visiting our capital city. I thank the year 6 staff for
supporting our students and coordinating this event.

Imagine life before technology, washing machines

time to see how it was done in the good old days. I
believe they prefer life as we know it now.

Aboriginal students from neighbouring schools
joined together to celebrate their heritage and
culture at Budgewoi Public School. They
participated in a day of activities sharing and
learning more about Aboriginal people and their
history. I thank Mrs Coates, Rikki and Mrs Fraser for
their assistance in this important event.
Term 4 Staffing
Welcome back Mrs Crowe. She will return from LSL
next term.
Mrs Buchanan returns to her position of Deputy. We
thank Mrs Mackay for the wonderful job she did in
stepping into the Deputy position and also thank Mr
Hernandez for his enthusiasm and a job well done
in teaching 5/6 Mackay. Mrs Quirk-Smith is on
Maternity Leave and the class is now taught by Mrs
Chaffer. We also congratulate Miss Welch, who
takes on a new teaching position at Swansea in
2017. (We keep her for the remainder of the year).
This is a worthy achievement and we will miss her
very much as she contributes greatly to whole
school programs. Congratulations Miss Welch.

Happy Holidays We sincerely hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. Enjoy your time together and make the most of the spring weather. Make sure children are outside and active for part of the day. Spending just 20 mins a day giving them your undivided attention in a game etc, is proven to improve relationships and satisfy our need for love and belonging. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday, Mrs Baigent.
Deputy Principal.

On Sunday 11th September the Deaves family and
friends participated in the 2016 JDRF One Walk at
Davistown. Type 1 diabetes children were asked to
write their name and school they attend to go into a
draw for a sports pack which was donated by Rebel
Sports, Erina.
Jamie Deaves of 2 Oldfield was the lucky winner of this
fantastic prize and is donating it to his class at Kanwal
Public School.
The JDRF One Walk is one of many fundraising
activities that are held across Australia to help raise vital

GIRLS TOUCH FOOTY TEAM

defeated Warnervale 5 - 3.
This Thursday they represent the school in the
Central Coast Finals against Kariong.
GOOD LUCK GIRLS!!!!!!
THE DRAIN IS JUST FOR
RAIN
We would like to thank the
fantastic students who are
helping keep our school
grounds clean.
During lunch break they don
vests and gloves and arm themselves with tongs and
buckets to go around the school collecting rubbish. Sadly
there is always a lot to pick up. These wonderful people
are volunteering their time because they know how
important it is to prevent rubbish going down the drain
and into our waterways.
Please report any suspicious behaviour during the holidays to school security on 1300 880 021.
Safety and security during the school holidays.

from the office.
ATTENDANCE Kanwal Public School - Road Safety Education
If a child misses an average of nine days
per term, (that's less than one day a week)
during their primary school years, they
would have missed a whole year of learn-
ing by the time they reach Year 7. To give
your child the best chance for success at
school and in life you need to send them
every day!
It’s Cool to be in school

Kanwal Public School Second Hand Book Sale
Next term we will be holding a second hand book sale (date to be advised). We would appreciate donations of pre-loved children's books which can be sent to the school office or Miss Trudgeon. Money raised from the sale will assist reading programs within the school. Thank you for your support.
YEAR 5 CAMP On Wednesday the 14th of September 2016, Year 5 went to
Morisset Camp. When we arrived our first job was to pick up
any bag and make our way to the meeting hall. We were told
where our cabins were, what groups we were in and then
went for a walk around the camp site. It wasn’t long before
we were on our way to the first activity and introduced to our
instructors.
We were lucky enough to take part in archery, canoeing,
high ropes, giant swing, rock climbing, mud world, flying fox
and raft building. Even the teachers got to participate!
We learnt so much at camp including how to put on a
harness, that we can overcome fears and how to work as a
team.
One of the highlights of camp was the County Fair. We were
designated a stall to run. The stalls consisted of yummy
treats and fun activities.
For breakfast there was a wide selection of food in the buffet
and set meals for the rest of the day. Everyone loved the
food, it was so tasty.
Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who came with us
to Camp Morisset. We had lots of fun!

P&C Thankyou A huge thank you to all our wonderful families, friends and community who so wonderfully donated to our raffle.
Commonwealth School Banking, Bunnings, Kanwal Meat Markets, Toukley Golf Club, Awezone Trampolines and
B Happy N Jump. A big thank you to all our volunteers who helped out with the Father’s Day stall. It is always
rewarding watching the children try and choose their presents. Also a big thank you to Cindy and Michelle for all
their efforts in the organisation. Making sure there will be enough gifts for all the students can be quite time
consuming. Ladies your time is truly valued. Thank you to Kristy for relieving some pressure and taking on the
Father’s Day raffle. Many hands make light work and it is wonderful to have new blood helping out.
Thank you to all the families who turned up and supported our movie night. Thankfully the weather held off. Again
thanks to those volunteers who gave up their time to ensure smooth running of the event. 2 copies of the book
series have been donated to the library for all the students to borrow. Enjoy reading students!!!!!!!!
CAMP AUSTRALIA - KANWAL
We would like to say a big thankyou to all the children and their families that participated in our TCAF fundraiser for
the Smith Family, Learning for Life Program this term. We came up with a target and that target was $100.

goal and combined we raised $103. Thank you again for all your support with this event.

987 beads in the jar and our winner was Bronte M, who guessed 1000. Finally there was 116 Origami Starts in the

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Kanwal Public School had its annual athletics carnival on Friday 29th at Mingara. I would like to thank all of the peo-
ple involved who made the day a successful one for our students. The day can’t be conducted without the help of
teachers and parents.
It was great to see so many children participating in all of the events and giving their best. Each event is for competi-
tive purposes and to see who will represent our school at the zone carnival. From the results of each race we deter-
mine an age champion.
