EPSOM PALM PRESS
Dear Parents,
Thank you to all families who have helped make our
school yard look so nice this term. With Autumn in full
swing most of the term it's been a big job.
Also thanks to everyone for making my time as Acting
Principal an enjoyable one. The role of the principal
can be challenging at times but also rewarding.
Our assembly on Monday went very well with our spe-
cial guest Mr and Mrs McGuffie skyping in from the
UK. It was great to see them and hear about their
school visits. Imagine children sent out to play in the
rain in puddle suits. Make sure you read Mrs McGuf-
fie’s blog and post a comment.
This week we have also had the grade 3/4 children at-
tend a basketball clinic. It was an active session for our
students and they put in a great effort.
Thanks to our wonderful band of helpers who have put
on the soup days this term. The children and staff have
loved the warm soup in this colder weather.
Breakfasts on Friday and Fresh Fruit Friday have also
had a terrific group of helpers. Thanks to all you are
making a huge difference to many childrens’ day.
Headlice has again been prevalent and we would appre-
ciate it if all parents would check their students heads’
over the holidays and treat if necessary. Headlice is not
easy to treat and rid but regular checking with follow up
treatment helps.
We would like to wish the Deb, Andrew, Isabella and
Madeline Anderson good luck in their new school and
thank them for all their generous time they have spent at
Epsom helping when needed. We are sure you'll soon
join in the new school community at Yarra Glen.
We also wish Georgea and her family a safe journey
back to Paraburdoo in WA. We hope you enjoyed your
term with us. Farewell!
We hope you enjoy the holiday with your children and
look forward to Mrs McGuffie’s return next term.
Thank you
Jenny Ashby Acting Principal
Last day of term Dismissal—2.30pm We have been informed by the department that
we are not allowed to dismiss the students at
1:30 due to the speed restrictions on our main
road coming into force at 2:30. Those parents
who have made arrangements for 1:30 pick up
already may still pick up at 1:30 but will need to
sign out their children. Students will be dis-
missed at 2:30pm on the last day of term June
29th.
Therefore there will be a final assembly at
2:15pm. No lunch orders on last day but a home
made lunch will be needed for those staying until
2:30pm. Sorry for this confusion.
HOLIDAY GARDENING
If you are able to help out with holiday gar-
dening please come and see me in the Office.
Thank you to the Piotrowski and Bethell
family who have volunteered.

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
Next term the program will begin on Mon. July 23rd for
Grades 3-6 and Wed. July 25th for Prep-2.
The program will go for 7 weeks.
Monday will be Martial Arts and Wednesdays will be
Tennis Hotshots
eSMART cybersafety We have been lucky to have been accepted into the eS-
mart program and have been given a grant. The grant will
be used by Epsom Primary School to help in applying for
accreditation as an eSmart school. To gain the creditation
we need to establish an eSmart group consisting of teach-
ers, parents, community members, sporting groups and
students. The group will work through safety online issues
and work together to formulate best practices in our
community and school. The use of social media and online
resources in our community requires that our students
and parents are well informed by providing the most up to
date information available.
So if you are interested in being a part of this group
please log onto www.schoolinterviews.com.au and use
code 87WNE. Leave your name so we can establish the
eSmart Group. We will all be learning together to ensure
our students remain safe when online. Meetings are to be
organised at a time that suits everyone.
If you know of any people in our community who would be
interested in this group please let them know so they can
contact the school and join the group also.
You may like to visit this site for some more information -
http://www.esmart.org.au
eSmart is supported by the Government of Victoria and
the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
EPSOM APPS & TWITTER
Our Epsom app is now available for iPhones and An-
droid phones. Check the iTunes store for Epsom PS.
One of the best things about the app is the twitter feed
as we are able to send messages via twitter about current
events, reminders and news in the school without you
even joining twitter. If you already use twitter follow
@epsomps to get the latest news.
WOOD RAFFLE The generous Mr. Lavars has donated a trailer
load of wood to our school to be raffled. He
will cut the wood to size and deliver
to the winner (within reason/reach).
Tickets are being sent home with this
newsletter and will cost 50c each. A
book will cost $5. This raffle will be
drawn the third week back, at As-
sembly—July 30th.
BENDIGO COMMUNITY COAT DRIVE
How many coats do we have in the wardrobe that
don’t fit, are last season or perhaps
just not your style anymore? Those
extra coats, jackets and blankets that
you have just lying around your home
could be a big help to someone
cold…...unwanted or unused winter
coats, sweaters, jackets and blankets
can be donated.
Jessica A., Grade 3/4, has asked for anybody
who has winter things to donate to this cause,
please drop them into the Office at school and she
will collect them daily and drop them off to the
collection point.
Thank you

GOOD NEWS!
The school has been successful in receiving a grant
from the Bendigo and Northern District Commu-
nity Enterprise. It will be used to 'glam up' the
chook shed and make the surrounds more appealing.
We have employed a graphic artist who will start
work soon on this exciting project. We will attach
some info on BDNCE to a future newsletter. Thanks
to Mrs Davey who spent many hours writing this
grant submission.
CASUAL DRESS DAY—TOMORROW
Tomorrow is a casual dress day. Children may come
dressed in PURPLE or BLUE clothes for a gold

The solid state circus
Yesterday I saw the solid State cir-
cus they had all sorts of tricks to
show everyone. They were very
cool because they did back Flips and
those sort of things. And they had
the magic hoops and one of the per-
formers balanced a sledgehammer on
his Chin. But that guy was very good
at balancing things. It was very fun.
