Englewood7th District
Englewood, the 7th District, rests in the south central portion of Chicago. The 7th District’s 6.75 square miles encompass 75th Street on the south to Garfield Boulevard at the north. (5500 South) From the Dan Ryan Expressway on the east (approx. 0 East) to
Hamilton Avenue at the west. (Approx. 2100 West)
Englewood, with a 2010 census population just over 40,000, is 98% African American. And, according to city-data.com, 44% of the Englewood residents live below the poverty
level with an unemployment rate that is well above the national average.
The territories of 5 gangs blanket more than 2/3 of the 7th District’s geography. They include, Gangster Disciples, Black Disciples, Black P Stones, Conservative Vice Lords, and Mickey Cobras.. There are 48 documented gang factions. The Gangster Disciples
make up 75% of the gang faction population.
There are 21 active Gang Conflicts within the boundaries of the 7th District. The Gangster Disciples are a participant in each of the 21 conflicts.

Chicago Park District initiated Windy City Hoops weekend basketball to give at risk youth an option to the streets.
YMCA offers its Urban Education Initiatives to help keep kids off the street.
