A very special welcome to our friends and visitors who have come to pray with us today. We are glad you are with us and hope you find a warm welcoming community here at Holy Infant Parish. Today we celebrate the baptism of Jesus through which He identified himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is through the waters of baptism that Jesus continues to bring members into his Body, the Church. Please call us at the parish office, (636) 227-7440, if we can be of help to you or if you would like to become a member of our parish.

Dear Parishioners, With today’s feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we “close the books” on the liturgical season of Christmas. I am grateful for all who made our celebrations a festive and meaningful observance: those who served in the various liturgical ministries, our choirs on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, all who helped to decorate our church for the holidays as well as our gymnasium for the Christmas Eve Mass, those who helped with both our indoor and outdoor manger scenes, and all those who contributed to Advent Giving Tree project to support families in need. I know that I also speak in the name of Fr. Anstoetter and Fr. Vordtriede in expressing appreciation for the many good wishes, cards and kindnesses shown to us at the rectory throughout this Christmas season!
I know that during the whirlwind of the holiday season with so much feasting and family and festivity, we sometimes momentarily lose sight of the Lord Jesus who is at the heart of them all.
I thought that perhaps the very best thing at the beginning of this New Year and on the great feast of the Baptism of the Lord to simply share with you a special blessing that the church has provided for this occasion:
What a great practice it would be to pray this blessing over your family each night during the month of January. Now there's a worthy New Year's resolution! God’s blessings to your and your family!

We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and make disciples. How many times does our own pride and ego get in the way of fulfilling God’s plan for us? Humbling ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things should be our top priority.

How does the Old Testament point directly to Jesus Christ? Where does it show these prophecies as fulfilled in the New Testament?
The OT points directly to Jesus Christ in 44+ OT verses; the fulfillment of these OT prophecies is also very evident in the NT. Here are just a few examples:
• Messiah would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:22-23; Luke 1:26-31).
• Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1; Luke 2:4-6).
• Messiah would be called Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23).
• Messiah would be called a Nazarene (Isaiah 11:1; Matthew 2:23).
• Messiah would be falsely accused (Psalm 35:11; Mark 14:57-58).
• Messiah’s hands and feet would be pierced (Psalm 22:16; Zechariah 12:10; John 20:25-27).
• Soldier would pierce the Messiah’s side (Zechariah 12:10; John 19:34).
• Messiah would be raised from the dead (Psalm 16:10; Psalm 49:15; Matthew 28:2-7; Acts 2:22- 23). Messiah would ascend to Heaven (Psalm 24- 7-10; Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51).
That’s our faith – rich in Sacred Tradition – based in Sacred Scripture! See you next time!
God Bless,
Deacon Daniel Raidt

On Thursday evenings beginning January 22, you are invited to watch a DVD commentary produced by the Apostolate for Family Consecration on the Gospel of St. Luke. This Gospel combines a strong narrative with an emphasis on Jesus’ mission to the poor and the oppressed. It offers the most detailed presentation of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection among the Gospels.
Francis Cardinal Arinze, philosopher and scholar, Fr. Randall Paine and Fr. Sebastian Vazhakala, MC, Blessed Teresa of Calclutta’s close associate for more than 30 years, present the depths of the only Gospel written by and for a Gentile audience. You’ll gain fresh insights into the infancy narratives, the role of the Holy Spirit and the foundations of Catholic social justice teachings. St. Luke possessed a special ability to tell stories to which the people of his time could relate and which continue to inspire us today. Meetings conclude with the recitation of the rosary for the renewal of family life and world peace.
Host family: Richard and Rebecca Boerner. The session begins at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. For questions call or email Rebecca at: (636) 230-6572, [email protected] or Cheri at: (636) 391-9558, [email protected].

DynamicCatholic,Alive! An Introduction
Dynamic Catholic, Alive is an Archdiocesan initiative inspired by Matthew Kelly’s The Four signs of a Dynamic Catholic to cultivate prayer, study, generosity, and evangelization. In 2015, there will be a special emphasis on prayer, a broad term that pertains to the entirety of the spiritual life (prayer, Mass, sacraments, holiness, etc.). Dynamic Catholics have a daily commitment to prayer and vibrant spiritual lives. Are you spiritually healthy? Check archstl.org/dynamic.
Baptism
Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, who was baptized by John the Baptist to sanctify the waters. “Baptism isn’t just a ceremony or ritual; it is a sacrament. A sacrament brings us into a living relationship with God. The Lord himself dwells within us through baptism and desires us to share in His holiness and mission” (Archbishop Carlson). Are you living out your baptismal calling through a life of holiness and mission? Check archstl.org/dynamic.
