UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Human

Development Index, released in New York on 4

November.

South Africa is considered a medium development

country and was ranked 110 out of 169 UN member

states in the latest report, a marginal improvement from

last year’s position of 129 out of 189.

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite

statistic used to rank countries by level of human

development. It separates developed

SOUTH AFRICA HOLDS BUSINESS INDEX SCORE

 

Consistent ratings of South Africa as an investment

market as well as a strong ranking against emerging

markets - and specifically the BRIC nations of Brazil,

Russia, India and China - underpin the country’s

performance in the annual Ease of Doing Business

Index results announced by the World Bank in

Washington on 4 November 2010.

The Ease of Doing Business Index is an index created

by the international financial institution, and uses

empirical research to justify its work by showing the

effect of improving regulations on economic growth.

LOWER INTEREST RATES 

Although the Reserve Bank has lowered the repo rate

eight times over the past two years and the home loan

interest rate has fallen a whopping six percentage points

from 15,5% to 9,5% as a result, many people have been

too busy coping with the recession and its aftermath to

fully grasp the real estate opportunities inherent in this

situation.

However, it’s time to do so now.

To start with, the interest rate decline translates into a

saving, for existing homeowners, of more than R400 a

month per R100 000 borrowed. And if you put this

saving, or even some of it, straight back into your bond

account, you will cut several years off your home loan

term and save yourself many thousands of rand in

interest.

Many South Africans today have moved from the

traditional suburban home with large gardens, into much

smaller properties such as townhouse or cluster-type

complexes for safety and security reasons. As a result

UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Human

Development Index, released in New York on 4

November.

South Africa is considered a medium development

country and was ranked 110 out of 169 UN member

states in the latest report, a marginal improvement from

last year’s position of 129 out of 189.

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite

statistic used to rank countries by level of human

development. It separates developed

SOUTH AFRICA HOLDS BUSINESS INDEX SCORE

 

Consistent ratings of South Africa as an investment

market as well as a strong ranking against emerging

markets - and specifically the BRIC nations of Brazil,

Russia, India and China - underpin the country’s

performance in the annual Ease of Doing Business

Index results announced by the World Bank in

Washington on 4 November 2010.

The Ease of Doing Business Index is an index created

by the international financial institution, and uses

empirical research to justify its work by showing the

effect of improving regulations on economic growth.

LOWER INTEREST RATES 

Although the Reserve Bank has lowered the repo rate

eight times over the past two years and the home loan

interest rate has fallen a whopping six percentage points

from 15,5% to 9,5% as a result, many people have been

too busy coping with the recession and its aftermath to

fully grasp the real estate opportunities inherent in this

situation.

However, it’s time to do so now.

To start with, the interest rate decline translates into a

saving, for existing homeowners, of more than R400 a

month per R100 000 borrowed. And if you put this

saving, or even some of it, straight back into your bond

account, you will cut several years off your home loan

term and save yourself many thousands of rand in

interest.

Many South Africans today have moved from the

traditional suburban home with large gardens, into much

smaller properties such as townhouse or cluster-type

complexes for safety and security reasons. As a result

many residential gardens are a lot smaller and as such,

much easier to design and maintain. Which is probably

just as well, as in the fast paced lifestyle of today, most

of us do not have the time, inclination or finances to

undertake the maintenance that the traditional large

gardens would need.

THE CORONATION DC DOUBLE CENTURY 

 

The Coronation DC Double Century is a 202km team 

event with twelve cyclists competing per team. Each of

the 200 teams competing has ten-and-a-half hours from

their official start time to complete the beautiful course

that travels through scenic areas such as Montagu and

the Tradouw Pass.
