SolidstateNMRofsilicaformedbybio‐mimeticblockcopolymer.Thesilicon‐29(29Si)solid‐statemagicanglespinning(MAS)nuclearmagneticresonancespectrawasacquiredusingaBrukerAscend400WBspectrometeroperatingat79.42MHz.A29SiNMRMASspectrumwasobtainedusingasingle45°rfpulse(3.5μs)separatedby120srecycledelays.Thespectralwidthwas30kHz,andatotalof3000scanswereacquired.Thespinningratewas5kHzatroomtemperatureusinga4mmrotor.

SI4SAXSanalysiswasperformedinthelaboratoryofProf.RickRegisteratPrincetonUniversity.TheinhousesystemconsistsofaPANalyticalPW3830(sealedtube)x‐raygeneratoremployingalongfinefocusCux‐raytube.TothisiscoupledaKratkycameramadebyAnton‐Paar,Graz,Austria.Thecameraisconnectedtoaone‐dimensionalposition‐sensitivedetector(BraunOED‐50M)whichisthenconnectedtoaPCmultichannelanalyzer(TennelecNucleusPCA‐II).Thefiguresbelowaretheresultsofanalysisofsilicaprecipitateshowntobespheresofapproximately100nminsizebyTEM.Duetostrongscattering,itwasnotpossibletoobtaindatabelowaboutq=0.4nm‐1.Noevidenceofinternalmicrostructurewasobserved,althoughthepossibilityexiststhatitismaskedbystrongparticlescattering.
