We make every effort during our design process to ensure our products are easy to clean andutilise modern materials and processes where possible to assist in the prevention of crossinfection. We recommend that all surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfectedregularly, and have compiled the following guidelines to assist you with your cleaning process:

Vinyl & Intervene Upholstery:Alcohol based wipes are acceptable as a cleaning method such asClinell Universal Wipes. Vigorous wiping can be used on the vinylupholstery but the use of abrasive materials is not recommended as itwill lead to scratching and damage to the surface.

Hypochlorite based cleaning can be undertaken upto 10000ppm.Particular care must be taken to avoid pooling of cleaning substanceas concentrations increase with evaporation and cause damage.

Hypochlorite cleaning can, over time, cause discolouration andeventually hardening and cracking. In real world use in hospitalsSunflower has not seen this to be a problem but it is a potential issueregardless of the manufacturer of the furniture.

Powder Coating (Paint):Powder coated surfaces (paint) should be cleaned using a soft dampnon-abrasive cloth & wiped dry. Increased or continual exposure towet/damp conditions or environments of high humidity may result inrusting/or cause the coating to peel, and therefore is notrecommended. Some dulling of the finish may occur over time ifcleaning products are consistently used.


Bleach, bleach based sprays, solvents, abrasives, syntheticdetergents, wax polishes or aerosols are not recommended.

Melamine, Laminates & Vinyl Wrapping:Melamine & Laminate faced surfaces (used on MFC & MDF) should becleaned using a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry.

Vinyl wrapped surfaces (e.g. Doors & Drawers) should be cleanedusing a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry.



Stainless Steel:Stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned using a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry. Discolouration may occur if allowed todry naturally. Stainless steel can still rust and certain chemicals can stilldamage the material. Iodine is one particular chemical which isknown to corrode/stain and should be avoided for cleaning.Increased or continual exposure to wet/damp conditions orenvironments of high humidity may result in some rusting and thereforeis not recommended.


Aluminium:Aluminium surfaces should be cleaned using a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry. Discolouration may occur if allowed todry naturally. Increased or continual exposure to wet/dampconditions or environments of high humidity may result in corrosionand therefore is not recommended.


Plastics, PVC & Rubber Based Materials:Plastics, PVC (e.g. screen panels) & rubber should be cleaned using asoft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry.


Electrical Components, Wiring & Actuators:Any electrical components should not be exposed to water, liquids orareas of high humidity. Plastic casings, wires and handsets can becleaned using a soft damp non-abrasive cloth and wiped dry.


Always switch off the mains supply before cleaning.

Metal or MFC Components:Alcohol based wipes are acceptable as a cleaning method such asClinell Universal Wipes. Vigorous wiping can be used on the body butthe use of abrasive materials is not recommended as it will lead toscratching and damage to the surface.

Hypochlorite based cleaning can be undertaken upto 10000ppm.Particular care must be taken to avoid pooling of cleaning substanceas concentrations increase with evaporation and cause damage.

Castors:Castors due to their nature pick up “fluff and bits”. Initially before wetcleaning all “fluff and bits” should be removed by hand. Once theseare removed then further cleaning can be undertaken as below.

Antifungal & Antibacterial Properties:KYDEX® sheet resists bacteriological and fungal developmentwhich makes it ideal for use in hospitals, food industry, etc. Itdoes not readily provide a source of nutrients for bacteria andfungi. One source of these nutrients come from an additiveknown as a plasticizer, which in most cases will support microbialgrowth. Since it does not contain plasticizers, the main sourceof nutrients is removed and it performs very well when tested forbacterial and fungal growth.

KYDEX® sheet was subjected to fungus resistance testing inaccordance with ASTM G-21 and bacteria resistance testing inaccordance with ASTM G-22, Procedure B.

The KYDEX® sheet samples did not allow any fungus or bacteriagrowth and performs exceptionally when exposed to bacteriaand fungus, without the addition of an anti-microbial additive.

Chemical Resistance:From sulphuric acid to brake fluid to carbon tetrachloride,KYDEX® thermoplastic alloy is more resistant to a wider range ofconcentrated chemicals than any other thermoplastic. Allgrades of KYDEX® sheet meet the highest standards of chemicalresistance for thermoplastic materials and pass the NHS’srequirement for 1000ppm Hypochlorite solution cleaning.
