Radio Arts Foundation Presents an Evening of Fine Wine and Jazz Under the Stars ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 the Radio Arts Foundation held a “first ever” wine and jazz fundraiser at the Columbia Foundation for the Arts – the site of the his- toric Columbia Theater on the Hill. The vintage vaudeville theatre was renovated in the 1980’s to include an open garden court with an outdoor stage, a pool that animates the space, all enhanced with multicultural art, much of it created by the owner. Over 180 people enjoyed a wonderful evening of delectable food, great conver- sation, fine wines from around the world provided by Clavarach Farm, and music by the Carolbeth True Trio. The evening activities also included a live raffle of items donated by businesses in the community. With his quick wit and easy humor, Jim Doyle served as emcee welcoming everyone to this extraordinary event. The weather was splendid and owner Frank H. Schwaiger was a most gracious host. The event was co-chaired by Babette Meiners and Peggy Ritter. Thank you to all supporters and sponsors who made this memorable event possible! CELEBRATIONS OF LIFE – IN MEMORY

GARY HAS DEEP ROOTS in classical music and radio. His love for working in radio began on Valentine’s Day 1974, when he started working in sales at WWWW-FM in Detroit. After 10 years working there and with Gannett Radio, he moved to St. Louis to become the General Manager of Magic 108, KMJM. Gary has worked in sales and sales management with vari-ous station groups in St. Louis since then, including CBS Radio (KYKY, KEZK and KMOX), Clear Channel and iHeart Radio.

Gary joined us this summer and we are excited to have him be part of our RAF-STL team. While in St. Louis, he met his second wife Jill who was a non-profit Executive Director and a Marketing Director in radio. A musician for over 20 years, Gary has played classical clarinet and jazz tenor sax. He attended Michigan State University and earned a BA in Tele-communications.

For information on advertising, contact Gary at [email protected] Edison was a long time RAF-STL board member. The former Chairman of Edison Brothers Stores Inc., he was a timeless volunteer with area nonprofit organizations. He served on a number of boards including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the St. Louis Art Museum, and was one of the founders and first president of the Associates of St. Louis University Libraries. An avid reader, Mr. Edison’s curiosity was deep and wide; his miniature book collection is displayed in an exhibit at Washing-ton University.

Pris McDonnell was an Honorary Advocacy Council mem-ber with RAF-STL. She was an influential part of the St. Louis Opera community, serving as a founding member of the Opera Theatre board and as chair of the St. Louis District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council. She was also a devoted soloist and choir member of the Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church. Active in numerous cultural and charitable organiza-tions, Mrs. McDonnell received many honors, including the Missouri Historical Society’s Thomas Jefferson Award, the Ca-thedral Concerts’ Great Music Award, Women of Achievement Award and the Variety Club’s Woman of the Year.

Paul Arenberg was a board member and former chairman of Barclay Marine Distributor Corporation. On the board of the Central Institute for the Deaf for 46 years, he was instrumental in ensuring a new building was created in the year 2000. He also served as a hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up board member at Opera Theatre of St. Louis, the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis, the Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, and was a trustee of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

With boundless generosity, Julian, Paul and Pris championed our regions culture, yet were unpretentious in all of their charitable works. We would like to thank Julian, Paul and Pris for their sup-port and commitment to RAF-STL and the St. Louis Community.

Are you 40 or younger? Do you like music? (Not just classical music, but jazz, blues, crossover, broadway…) Are you energized by the arts and culture scene in St. Louis?

Air Support’s mission is to keep the arts aloft for the rising generation, and if you meet the ‘enlistment criteria’ noted above, then we need you to join us to spread the word about RAF-STL and help plan some

exciting events for other performing arts aficionados in 2017!

We are looking for people who like to host parties and network with other young professionals in St. Louis, listeners who are passionate about our radio station, and those interested in learning more about how a startup non-profit works. Students are welcome!

If you are interested, contact Julie Schuster at [email protected]. She will be glad to tell you more about the group and make sure that you hear about future Air Support events.

Be a part of the voice for all the arts in St. Louis… show your Air Support!

From Our Listeners and GuestsThe arts community and listeners love us, and we love them!

“While driving I listen to either your station or NPR, about 50-50. But since the election I can’t bear listening to the news anymore and have had my dial glued to FM 107.3. I need reassurance that there still is goodness in this world and listening to 107.3 is slowly but surely lifting me out of my funk.”

— Peter Z., Listener

“Thank you for the delicious cello concerto with Alyssa Weilerstein. I could put on a cd anytime, but I find so much satisfaction in listening to your station. Why? Because I know other people are listening also and that is like being at a concert, and with no coughing or rattling of papers. Very cool. And what a glorious piece of music.”

— Mary W., Listener

“My kids and I adore your Saturday morning children’s hour. Last week, you played a narrated version of Scheherazade. My kids loved it.”

— Stacey G., Listener

“I listen to your show every morning when I drive my daughters to school. You are always so upbeat and cheerful, it’s hard to be grumpy in the morning.”

— Jim B., Listener
