BOOK WEEK We are celebrating our Stanmore Bay School Book Week next week with lots of activities based around books, reading and writing with a focus on having fun. We are encouraging our students to read, read, read, write, write, write, having fun with our buddies, listening to stories and storytelling. As part of our celebrations we have invited local author, artist and storyteller, Stu Duvall, to come to school to perform for us. He will present his storytelling performance for us on Wednesday 21st September. The cost is $4.50 per student and he will also be running creative writing workshops on Thursday 22nd September for our Year 3 to 6 classes, which are free. All students should have received a note about these performances last week. We are fortunate to have him coming to perform for us and encourage all students to attend.

Our Library is also running a Book Week competition that all students can be involved in. Tui Whanau (Junior) - a bookmark competition, Korimako Whanau (Middle) - a poster advertisement and Kaahu Whanau (Senior) - a 3D model, short video or animation. Classroom teachers have more information about this competition.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE AND ATTENDING AT SCHOOL It is important that children attend school each day unless they are sick or have a justified reason for not attending. We are concerned about a growing number of children who are having a lot of time off school so here is a reminder of the process we use to ensure your child is at school. If your child is sick please ring the school to inform us. If we do not hear from you a notification text is sent. Please respond to this text as we need to check on every child. If they are going to be away for an extended period of time please send an email or letter to school which will be kept on file at the office. If your child is continually absent for reasons which are either unexplained or unjustified your child's teacher will contact you to see if there is anyway they can assist in ensuring your child attends school. If this is not successful, our Deputy Principal will make contact with parents to see if there is anyway the school can assist in ensuring your child attends school. If this is not successful, a letter will be sent home from our Principal. Truancy services will be involved if there is still no change in attendance at school. SPEECH COMPETITIONS Well done Kaahu whanau who held their Y5 & 6 Speech Competition on Monday of this week. This year we had a special guest ‘Simon Franks’ from the local Toastmasters Group who joined the judging panel of Mrs Gordon and Mrs Welsh. Our finalists were amazing and their topics were interesting and very relevant for the persuasive speech focus. Our winners were; Year 5 Winner: Jonny Milne, 2nd, Luke Camilleri, Highly Commended, Skye Halcom. Year 6 Winner: Hafsah Loukili, 2nd equal, Laura Dymond and Sveta Hackett. Hafsah will now go through to compete in the interschool competition next term with her speech on ‘Bullying’. Well done to all the students. Miss Faulkner ROOM 4 Room 4 is collecting 1 litre soft drink bottles; the netting bags you get oranges in, and 2 litre blue ice cream containers for an art project. Please drop off to Room 4. Thank you.

SUBWAY If you would like your child to have a subway lunch this Friday please send the correct money and order to the office by Thursday 9am. JUMP ROPE FOR HEART Last week we had a red day for the Heart foundation and we raised $450.00. Thank you for your support.

STANMORE BAY SCHOOL ONLINE SHOPPING Our online school shop is now up and running. This will be our preferred method of payment. Not only can you order Lunches online, purchase uniforms, and pay for class and sports trips, we will also add Donations and Camp to our online shop too. Our school shop uses the same software as Ezlunch so if you’ve used Ezlunch you’ll be able to log in using the same details. It couldn’t be easier. You’ll have the flexibility to be able to pay your child’s school expenses when it suits you – any time of day or night. Attached is a flyer explaining how to create your accounts. Or follow our link: https://shop.tgcl.co.nz/shop/user_home.shtml?session=false&shop=Stanmore%20Bay%20School PARKING As the school is growing we have some staff parking on the road. Could I please ask all parents not to come into the school carpark unless it is for an emergency. We have had the car parking spaces marked to define each area. The area next to the Kindy belongs to Stanmore Bay School and one space has been designated as a wheel chair access only. N.P means no parking so please observe this sign and do not block the entrance to the lower playground. END OF THE YEAR School closes on Friday 16th December. Carol Abley Principal
