Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) Kindyland has continued to be a busy place this last week! All of the Kindergarten classes have enjoyed meeting their Year 5 buddies. We are looking forward to seeing them every couple of weeks. Last Monday, the children took home their Home Readers for the first time. They are now changing these books every day so that they can practise the skills and strategies they have been learning to use at school. In Mathematics, the children have been learning to recognise and create patterns. Some of the patterns have been very complicated! Kindy classes are also starting to get ready for Grandfriend’s Day. They have been learning some songs with Ms Pagel during Music lessons.

Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2) It has been great to see the children settling in to the Year 1 routine. The children were so excited to start Sport Skills. It is great to see them cooperatively engaging in sports games that encourage further development of their fundamental movement skills.

In preparation for the start of Reading Groups with our Parent Helpers next week, the children have been practising reading in their groups and completing a range of literacy-based activities that include listening, comprehension, spelling, phonics and sight word games. We can’t wait for our Parent Helpers to visit! If you would like to be a Reading Group Helper please speak to your child’s teacher.

Stage 2 News (Years 3 & 4)

Last week we had our first Stage 2 assembly. 4C led the assembly and performed a play. The play was based on a Chinese love story, in celebration of Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day. It is the story of the Willow Pattern.

Koong-See is the beautiful daughter of a wealthy Chinese mandarin. He wants her to marry a rich husband, but she has no interest in money and she doesn’t approve of arranged marriages. He insists that

she meets some rich young men but she finds them all vain and boring. Instead, she falls in love with Chang who is merely a

gardener.

Ms Sheridan Cooper – 4C Class Teacher

Stage 3 News (Years 5 & 6) This term 6T are studying the novel 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. As a part of our studies, students were asked to create a landscape representation of the environment described by Sachar throughout the novel. Here are two paintings of the 'Holes' desert environment by Madeleine Newman and Indi-rose de Caires. Mr J Ticli - 6T Class Teacher

Carnival Committee (Mr Kessler, Mr Ticli, Mr Brown) PSSA T-Ball Results Round 2 In the Year 5 Competition, Neutral Bay White played against North Sydney. The North Sydney team made a strong start and their fielding was impeccable. However, our White team made a good come back with everyone in the team batting well. The final score ended with our White team losing 16-18. Player of the match went to Jack Coombs (5K) for trying hard throughout the game and showing great sportsmanship. The Neutral Bay Green team played an exciting game against Cammeray. Both teams were evenly matched, but by the end of the 6th innings our Green team had won 11-8. Player of the match went to Katie Wightwick (5R) for the way she encouraged her teammates and led by example. In the Year 6 Competition, Neutral Bay Red defeated Beauty Point 29-2. The game got off to a rusty start, but, captained by Sophie Bateman (6C) Neutral Bay quickly came together to play a fast and impressive game. There was plenty of great catches and some wonderful batting. However the most impressive part of the game was the great team spirit displayed by both teams. The player of the match went to Declan Elliott of 6T. Neutral Bay Black, captained by Sophie Hobson (6C), admits it wasn't their best game, however, there was a clear improvement in their batting. They were defeated by Cammeray, 25-3. The player of the match went to Alysha Airey from 6S. Miss Taylor and Miss Chapple (Coaches)

YMCA Swimathon Sunday 1st March My story is that I love to swim and I want to use my skill in swimming to do something good for someone else. I decided to enter the YMCA swimathon to help raise funds for disabled people. Last year I managed to raise $900. I got enough money to help employ a qualified instructor to teach disabled people, I also bought a float suit, a neck flotation device and got a disabled child 5 swimming lessons. This year I want to try and raise $1,500 dollars. I really want to make other people happy and safe in the swimming pool so that they can enjoy swimming like I do. Please donate as much as you possibly can even if it’s some pocket money you got on the weekend. Last year 1 swam 36 laps in 1 hour. This year I want swim at least 40 laps. Removal of Frozen Berries from the canteen menu

We would like to inform all our parents and children that we stopped serving frozen berries. The canteen has not used the Nannas brand at the centre of the Hep A issue in the media. Nevertheless we have opted to remove frozen berries from our menu. A special thanks to all the parents who comes in for an hour or so to help in the morning with the labeling of lunch bags, preparing orders and helping with other duties at the canteen. The time that you contribute at the canteen makes a big difference. A warm thank you to our Week 4 volunteer team. You were all amazing! Next week’s special is our delicious Chicken Schnitzel Burgers. The sign-up process is back online and it is quick and simple to do.
