Principals Message GRIT Our school development plan is to focus on deepening student understanding of comprehension from a variety of text and writing opportunities as well as, problem solving in math. We want our students to make connections to the real world so they see the value of these important concepts in everyday life. We will be showcasing academic growth of our students from a variety of classrooms in the newsletter and on our main bulletin board by the office. It’s important to us that you see the strategies we are using to support your child’s growth in this area and to celebrate their accomplishments. We are also supporting our students resilience and perseverance in never giving up on their learning by growing their GRIT. Stop by the school to see what we mean by GRIT and the GRIT theme song our School Advisory Council composed for the whole school. Also, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the administration to learn more. Sandra Fowler-Brown Principal Stanley Jones School/Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy

Winter Concerts Please come to our Elementary Music Concert on December 7th. The concert begins at 7:00PM, and participating students are expected to be in their homeroom classrooms at 6:30 to finish getting ready. The students have been working hard, and are excited to present their show about how different people (and bears!) celebrate their winter break. Please come to our Winter Band Concert on December 14th. The concert begins at 7:00PM, and all band students are expected to meet in the learning commons at 6:30 to get instruments out, warm up, and tune. The bands have all been working very hard, and are excited to present their music to you!
Dress Warmly and Stay Dry In the Winter: Adults and children should wear: • a hat • a scarf or knit mask tocover face and mouth • sleeves that are snug at the wrist, mittens (they are warmer than gloves) • water-resistant coat and boots • several layers of loosefitting clothing Be sure the outer layer of your clothing is tightly woven, preferably wind resistant, to reduce body-heat loss caused by wind. Wool, silk, or polypropylene inner layers of clothing will hold more body heat than cotton. Stay dry— wet clothing chills the body rapidly. Excess perspiration will increase heat loss, so remove extra layers of clothing whenever you feel too warm. Do not ignore shivering. It’s an important first sign that the body is losing heat. Persistent shivering is a signal to return indoors.
